  • So it is update time..
Mundane matters, I'm pleased with the clothes dryer. Not super rapid but significantly quicker than a non heated rack and easy to use.
Money wise... Just plodding on. I won't make an overpayment this month until after Christmas. We aren't excessive Christmas spenders but I don't want to be caught short. Food seems so expensive at the moment. Will get most of the stuff in Aldi.

    Mortgage total: £293,929.32
    Total reduction this year:£36,070

Will aim to at least overpay £429.00 this month as it will be most vexing not to end on a nice neat number!
  • Oddly low interest this month of only £14.12 a day. The interest each month always changes, must be some kind of adjustment thing but £14.12 is a good improvement and not far from the £13s. Def first goal for new year!

Wreath making tonight, such a lovely tradition even if I am the least creative person you will ever meet
  • Bank account switches ...anyone done it? I've been with bank since I was 11! Been happy with them and get £4 a month reward but now that is stopping I'm tempted to do a switch to Halifax and get £125 plus £5 a month.....need reassurance though?!

You don't have to switch your normal account if it's making you nervous. Just open an account online with a bank which doesn't offer any incentives you're interested in at the moment, set up the number of direct debits that the bank you're looking at switching to is requesting you switch with the account, wait for them to be deducted once (so they qualify as being "active") and you're ready to go! Then once your bonus has been paid you're ready to go again. When I collected all the bonuses, I had 2 or 3 sets of accounts all going from one, to the next, to the next, with my main bank account never moving (some of the offers were time-limited, hence the multiple sets, so they didn't expire before I had an account ready to switch to them). You have to be quite organised and you'll get a LOT of post, but I made around £600 so it was definitely worth it for me. This was around 2016/2017 though, so I think the offers were more plentiful then. That said, if there are two of you willing to do the rounds then there's the possibility to double whatever's available by having an account each

And if it is your normal account that you're looking to switch as opposed to trying to chase every bonus going, then to give you some reassurance I never had any issue with any of the switches I did (probably about 10 in total 🤔?) It's very straightforward

  • Wow @South_coast you are a seasoned pro. Not sure I have the head space to have more than one but do feel reassured that moving the main one won't be too tricky...
    Must be brave!
Two more cases of covid at school and another PCR test for me today. Fingers crossed.
Three more days until the holiday and I can start on the decluttering. Must get rid of some thing before more stuff arrives for Christmas. Trying to encourage family to buy experiences etc not things but get accused of being controlling 🙄
