Make do, Mend and Minimise in 2021

I've minimised an ingredient from the back of the fridge: I've just made some pannacotta (ie milk puddings!) using a still-sealed 150ml pot of Sainsbury's double cream that was use-by 14th December... it smelt and tasted absolutely fine, and the texture was fine, too, and it was fine in heating, fine with the gelatine and vanilla added, seems to be completely fine...!
Definitely minimised that, as well as making do!

Morning Peeps,
Does using a donated 6 yrs OOD sandwich pickle count as minimising count? It is all about the taste and smell test.
Mended a handle on my cooler bag I use for work at it is creeping out of the cover for some reason.
Make do with what food is available in the house.
Have a good weekend.

Make-do: for my next little quilt, I needed some cloudy blue fabric. Despite having a massive cupboard full of fabric, I didn't have any cloudy blue. But I did have an old sheet - so I've tie-dyed that & it's come out great!
Mend: Darned a big hole in the front of my favourite vintage jumper this morning, & noticed it was rather grubby so soaked it before washing; that's also turned out well.
Minimised: 4 lovely but unsaleable old sewing machines, plus a large number of parts, have been given to a guy who's setting up to become a repairer of these things. Once done, they'll be sent out to Eastern Europe for someone to earn a living with; cottage industries are big out there & old equipment isn't sneered at. That's cleared quite a lot of space!Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)20 -
Good Morning Peeps
Make do I am making dog beds by attaching 2 old pillowcases together and 2 old pillows inside. These will be easy to wash, and can be folded out of the way. We have greyhounds.........Greyhounds can't sit, and we have hard floors, so they need beds in every room. 🙄
Mend DH mended the wobbly door handle 🥳
Minimise Refilled some of the spice jars, so the ends of packets have been emptied and binned 🙂

I am minimising my store of knitting magazines. I have taken out all the information and patterns I am likely to make use of and the rest will be recycled. I'm also in the process of unravelling a handknitted bolero that I don't use. I will enjoy finding a pattern to use from the ones I have saved from the magazines.

Make do Refilled the hand washes with Lidl bubble bath. 😉
Mend DH is painting a wooden stool with some pale grey chalk paint. My Grandad made it when he was in rehabilitation after the Second World War. I was bit sad when I was sanding it down, as I remember my Nana painting it gloss white, year after year........so many layers of paint. 🙂
Minimise The draw tidying continues.......All the wrapping paper and gift bags gathered together, and a tatty bag into the bin. Another drawer in the utility tidied. Nothing thrown away yet, but it will be more organised, so more space created.
Have a lovely day 🙂In a world where you can be anything, be kind. (Caroline Flack)

Make Do: decided the black ice yesterday was bad and his morning will be worse, so have postponed walking to supermarket as I normally do on Thursday morning, and will Make Do with the plentiful supplies we already have.
Mend: having seemingly attempted to amputate my thumb on Monday whilst slicing bread, my excellent body has helpfully very nearly mended it, hurrah!
Minimise: I've finally reversed the weight-gain trend of recent weeks and have lost 1lb, which I'm counting as a triumph!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Been working through my wool stash, knitting cowls & hot water bottle covers for presents. I've got a long weekend off work, so using some curtains I bought from a charity shop last year, I am making new covers for my settee. Going to make a cover each day, to break it up a bit. First one made today, really pleased with it. Minimising & making do/mending 😁Use it up, wear it out

Making do: the kitchen in our new house does not spark joy. Black countertops, orangey-pine doors, grey grouted tiles. We’re on a capital B Budget, so major changes are out, but for the price of a white grout pen, a tin of primer, and paint leftover from the other rooms, we should be able to pull off a cheap and cheerful make over!
Mend: I’ve got this square side table on castors, which was originally a dark wood, and is absolutely ancient. Not antique-ancient, just a bit naff-ancient. But it was my mum’s, and has been around since I was born, and so I’m rather attached to it. Mum sloshed it over with white paint, maybe 25 years ago(?), and since then it’s been subjected to countless dings, spills, watermarks, coffee cup rings, and cat scratches - it even had the remnants of a 0’s magazine immortalised into the top. Definitely seen better days. Partner was very hesitant about having it anywhere visible when we moved in, and I was a bit hesitant about doing anything which would ‘ruin’ my ratty, grubby, nostalgia-filled table. It had been on my radar to at least clean the thing for a few weeks, but after I kept putting it off, partner took the matter into his own hands the other day - ‘sick of the sight of it’ - and surprised me by taking great care in washing it down, sanding off the rough bits, carefully removing the rust off the castors and shining them up, oiling the wheels so it doesn’t squeak, and finally painting it in a lovely dark green which compliments the living room. It still looks like my table, but it’s got a whole new lease of life, and looks very smart! I think my mum would’ve just loved it, and definitely asked why I didn’t do it sooner!
