glennevis: the Data Reward SIM is data only, so there's no mobile number.

As others say, of course there is, it’s even possible to port numbers from other networks onto the Data Reward sim.

Which registration page are you using?
Are you doing it from the phone on data?
There a few threads on getting these sums registered.
    Try this recent vid.

Thanks so much @getmore4less for the video link.
There was far too much wrong with this process. Maybe because the SIM was designed for tablets, not phones?
Anyway, a very poor setup from Three.
I have got it to work. Here are some comments for others.
    (1) I'd read that you could do this for free so my SIM did not have any credit on it. Only when I managed to add £2 credit was I able to access the registration pages.
    (2) Interesting that the iPhone App Store has two Three apps. I was redirected to use the "older" (?) Three app for this Data Rewards SIM -- the app with the plain white "3" logo - not the new one with the purple background. However for my normal Three PAYG SIM, it uses the newer purple background app. Nothing confusing about that then...
    (3) Switching from 4G to 3G as suggested in the comments to the video seemed to have NO effect on things for me.
    (4) I can now see the 200MB added to my account under "Unknown". Again, very reassuring.
All in all, a very poor user experience from Three again. I don't know about you but I find their registration & password creation process extremely frustrating. It loops with the newly created password not being recognised, and you have to start all over again, but that is another gripe I have with Three - not relevant to this post/issue.
Thanks again for the help here. Much appreciated!
    Yesterday, I succesfully registered a new Data Reward SIM for the free 200mb Data per month BUT;

It didn't work following the instructions sent with the SIM i.e. Insert SIM, Go to Three.co.uk/freedata and complete the registration process, I simply got the Ineligible notice.

I'd already watched the video above two days before and tried changing the APN as he suggests but this didn't work on an unused Data Reward Sim I'd had since Dec 2020, so I requested a new one (received next day).

So, with the newly received SIM installed, in my web browser (Google) I typed in http://devicereg.three.hostedservice.net (suggested by a kind poster on here) instead of Three.co.uk/freedata and that worked. However, I also had my phone still set to use the amended APN, so now I'm not sure which bit made it work or even whether there is an expiry date (for Rewards) on the SIMs and that's why it didn't work on the first SIM i tried.

    Regarding the OP's post above;

    1. I did not add any credit before the 200mb Data Reward was confirmed.

    2. No app is needed for this process. You just type in the above in your web browser.

    3. I don't remember anything about 4g to 3g in that video.
  • I've also failed to register a Data Reword SIM - even after applying a credit.  After almost an hour on the phone to Three I was put through to a Technical Assistance department who acknowledged that a "glitch" existed on the registration system, which apparently affects only some (but not all) users and/or SIM cards.  They are working on a resolution of the "glitch" - but would not be drawn on when the fault would be rectified but they suggested that I should be able to register and receive the 200 MB free credit within a couple of weeks.  Given this problem seems to have been around for months, I do wonder whether it will be resolved this soon.  I was given a 1GB data credit which will expire after a month to tide me over until I could register; I can't see whether this has been applied until I register - but I assume it will be there.  I suggested that if the fault was related to certain SIM cards, a solution might be to get a new SIM card which they agreed might be a solution if I'm still unable to register the SIM card I have in a couple of weeks.  All in all I'm disappointed that Three don't seem able to give the service they market.

Let's be fair, those of us who managed to register for the monthly free data, and rarely or never need to add any credit, are very fortunate that such a service exists..!

I hope you are able to get it sorted, there are a few old threads about the difficulty of registering successfully, so it's nothing new, and probably not something Three are going to bother to rectify considering the meagre revenue it must bring them.

I got my new data reward done with the APN change.
    200MB a months £0. credit

30p left on my old 321.
Looks  like a O2 classic will get that slot  and number when the 30p runs out.

Thanks for your post confirming my suspicion that Three's customer service is almost useless.
What you said above about not being able to see whether your complimentary 1GB data has been applied until your SIM has succesfully registered is wrong.
If you already registered for My3, you will see the data credit if you click on Data Allowance or just register now and you will see it. Registering the SIM and registering for My3 are completely unrelated.

Unfortunately despite getting this to work OK on one Data Reward SIM, the second one keeps giving the ineligible SIM message.  This is on an iPhone and have tried changing the API for just internet as well as MMS as someone earlier suggested but still no luck.  Also tried entering the web address directly but it just redirected back to the ineligible page.  3 CS gave the same nonsense about systems being down (despite the other SIM having registered fine about 30 mins earlier) and gave 1GB bonus for the first month.  These SIMs are for my parents as they are both very low users who are just after the 321 rates primarily so it isn't the end of the world if only one of them is getting the 200MB free data (the other one that isn't registering for free data still appears to be using the 321 rates).

What I did notice for the second SIM is that when I tried to register it for My3 (after trying the data reward register) it thought the number was already registered - so perhaps it was a recycled number and their systems thought the number was a different (non data reward) SIM.  They managed to reset the password for My3 so I was able to top up but haven't been able to sort the Data Reward bit.

I got another data reward one done recently needed the APN change.
Can set it up in any phone then move it to the one you want.

    The other options are

O2 classic  (if any left  on ebay 321 like "3")

    RWG free
    https://rwgmobile.wales/rates/

    50mins/text +250MB

I have one, not set up yet.

I have the three data reward sim in slot 1,it is a faff to set up,but works fine.,and just moved to rwg in slot 2. Put it in phone sim worked no problem, you just have to e mail them which bundle you want,i had the £0 a month bundle, within 2 mins had email back saying bundle activated, and bundle will renew on the 25th of each month. Easy peasy. Much better than the three data sim to set up.
