At the moment, I have onions, mooli, chillies and marigold seeds growing - I usually have success with mange tout, but am trying a range of vegetables - including root veg like carrots and parsnips. Basically, I'm trying as much as possible to see what works.
We have an apricot tree as well, against a south-facing wall (in Cheshire!)which we've had fruit off before - at the moment, we're swathing it in horticultural fleece every night against frost.2024 Fashion on the Ration - 10/66 coupons used

Hi Everyone I would love to join your forum? I have various UFOs which I should finish which I keep promising to go back to, just need to get some motivation. At the moment I’m crocheting a new hot water bottle cover, at least that’s using up some of the wool. Hoping to join you all, and look forward to your posts.2

5 cards made this weekend, and a couple of part made ones. I have one more mother's day card to finish, and then they're all done- all made with things from the box of doom I planned to use up last year 😂 that takes me to 23/75
There is now headspace in said box, which is very exciting. My shelving unit is looking a little overloaded, so the more stuff used up the better! I've had to rehome everything from on or under my desk as the roof is leaking, and I don't want anything to be ruined if the staining turns to dripping.

Hi,Ancre,welcome.xx
Emsi,I was just thinking a minute ago that I should perhaps try to make a Mothers day card. I didn't give my Mum Birthday card in January because I didn't like what the supermarket had to offer. I have no clue where to start. Well perhaps pinterest.
Wraithlady,I am very envious of your apricot tree. I live just over the hill in North Derbyshire. Our weather is very different to you.The most exotic thing I can grow is rhubarb!
Another blanket finished. I must confess I bought 3 balls of wool to brighten up future blankets as I only have dull colours left in my stash.

Another baby hat finished. Making Mr V a beanie at his request. He will never wear it and I will eventually unravel it and make something else!

Good Morning everyone, another dreich day here. Thank you all for your warm welcome. I have finished the hot water bottle cover, will try and attach a picture. Vulpix I am in the same position as you were re Birthday card. It is my Mother’s 90th at the end of March, and so far haven’t seen any suitable cards. It is even worse that we won’t be able to celebrate it with her friends due to lockdown. I had the the idea that I would make up an afternoon tea, party pack, and hand it in to her friends, with a wee note that we would have been inviting them to an afternoon tea but because of the situation we were unable to, problem is getting a box that is suitable. Hope everyone has a lovely day.1

Are your mother's friends online? I did a socially distanced birthday party for my mum last August but we were allowed to have people in the yard (I kept them just inside the gate except for DS2 and his gf who were from a different borough and still had to stay outside the gate -I put the little table outside and they brought their own camping chairs).
I didn't invite anyone, just thought about who would be likely to drop by with a card or gift during the day so it was a series of (very) small encounters. I put two large tables just outside the door (side/ main door to the house and nearest to the kitchen), wore mask and gloves to make all the food and set it out on paper plates (for singles) and foil platters (for couples). When people arrived I asked them to wait by the gate, put food plate/ platter on the table then retreated back inside whilst they seat ed themselves and took mum out the back way (patio doors) and round to the far side of the tables to chat. I used a broom handle to lift gift bags from their side of the tables to ours.
I put the birdbath next to the gate with a selection of wrapped cake bars so that people could pick one without touching ones intended for other people. The idea was that people could either eat then or take food home with them and email photos back of them having their party. I'm just wondering if you would be able to do something similar - either deliver 'party food' to 'guests' or asked them to hold their own 'tea party' (maybe with a decorations/ a message pinned up behind) and send the photos or emails to the birthday girl (or yourself). Perhaps a 'video' of messages that she can keep.
We had people coming from about 10 am and the guest was my niece (after mum had decided I could lock up for the night - sometime she decides to lock us in for the night in the middle of the afternoon) on her way to meet a friend (he lived alone so had formed a social bubble with her and her bf and came to stay at weekends). I made a Happy Birthday Mumsname sign (cutting all the letters out of A5 pieces of card then threading letters together with embroidery thread), but that didn't get put up until late evening. I cut out the letters on the Thursday when mum went for a nap, was going to do the rest on Friday (using a set of biscuit cutters for different sized flowers with the scraps left over from the letters) but mum refused to go for a nap. I went in my room to do them and she came in whilst I was doing them.
Not sure if you live with or near your mum but could you make a sign/ display to put up outside the house (either to hold up or something she will see when she opens the curtains - I put a display of plant pots, bulbs and ornamental rabbits and a small sign outside the patio doors (mum's room) for last Easter as a surprise when she opened the curtains in the morning. I've also put things in the window to make parents and children and the dog walkers smile as they go past (they've entertained us endlessly as we have been in isolation for most of the time since last March) and I also put notices on the bins thanking the bin men (similar for delivery drivers) for keeping us safe.
Hope this helps. My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
Ancre cute little fairy house.
I am in a bubble with my Mum (86) but I don't go to see her that often, just to take her shopping every 3 weeks. I did look on pinterest but I just don't have the paper stock to make a lovely card. It is bizzare that I could actually go to buy the card stock at B n M and mix with all comers. Defeats the objective somehow.
I will make more effort t think about what I can do.
