Just wondered why the AZN share price isn't making more upward movement, bearing in mind the recent vaccine approval.
Thanks in advancePlus its a one-shot (well OK two shot) deal, its not like a drug for a condition thats taken for years.2 -

Simplistic view: Glaxo and the FTSE350 pharma index - down 0.6% on the day ; NYSE pharma index up 0.4% instead ; difference about a percent.
Big Pharma makes and measures much of its profit in dollars.
A pound was worth $1.3497 yesterday 9pm ; today almost 9pm it's worth $1.3623. That means $1m of global pharma profits that was worth £740,905 yesterday is now worth only £734,052 today, about 0.9% fewer pounds.
So if you measure the daily movement in your FTSE350 Big Pharma index in pounds but your NYSE Big Pharma index in dollars, you might expect something getting on for a percent of difference between the two results. Which is what you got.
Very crude of course but given there will be all sorts of company specific issues creating differences between the two sets of index constituents, I wouldn't want to devote any time at all to trying to find the other missing 0.1-0.2% of delta.3 -
I was looking at the situation this year. Since July GSK and AZN have given up around 20% or even more. The US Drugs Index is higher than July.0

GSK has apparently been hit pretty hard by all of the healthcare that's been put on hold during the pandemic, they also have a split coming up.
I do buy GSK shares each month so it's been a bit rough, but I've continued to pick them up because they seem rather undervalued to me. At least there's the dividend...0 -
AZ is much more that this vaccine .. leaders in oncology & viewed as having strongest pipeline in industry. Suspect short term nervousness in relation to the Alexion acquisition.0

What is the rationale behind the not-for-profit?
That could have been offered that for third world countries - but China, Russia and US? I assume some pressure was brought, but who by?
The UK could do with the tax take to help defray the cost of the pandemic and, depending on Gov's input/contribution, maybe even a per unit surcharge on supplies to richer nations?0 -

In receipt of taxpayer $ & £.
Good PR.
Get Covid out the way and hospitals can go back to focusing on other illnesses for which Astrazeneca can supply the drugs.0
