Ive spent weeks getting my autumn things out and putting them away again
I *think* this time they're staying out... I'm sorting all the hats and mitts and cowls and so on today; a row of them pegged across the bedroom window to dry in the breeze even though it's drizzling outside.
My Intended has had a summer of tests and scans as consecutive tests indicted things were not sorted out last summer as hoped - thankfully we found out on Thursday that, yes, it is still there BUT it's barely moved an inch, doesn't seem to be intent on domination and conquest, and so a couple of years of mega-meds and some targeted radiation midwinter should see it off. Again.
So it is a very relieved kind of feelingWe were prepared for much worse, from what we'd been told...
I'm getting on properly with an old-fashioned Autumn Cleaning - don't sit down for too long here in the Village Hall or you may find yourself being dusted, brushed, shaken, mopped and sprayed with moth-killer2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Glad to hear things not as bad as you'd feared. Any news on date for upcoming nuptials?8

Upcoming nuptials possibly in November, mainly due to bloomin' lawyers all taking literally weeks and weeks to reply to a simple email. Is there any other "profession" in which it's normal practice not to reply for two or three weeks and then take another couple of months to do 20 minutes' work? It's a legal agreement that everyone involved agrees on, but each has to get their own lawyer to check it before they sign, and each one is taking literally months, ours included. It will save future hassle to tie up all past loose ends before we get hitched, but jings, I would like to tell the lawyers what I think of them... we were at the "right, all concerned parties agree happily on this, just need it signed" in July, for heaven's sake...2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

My favourite lawyer joke: "What is the difference between a lawyer and a rat? There are some things a rat won't do..."
Seriously, though, lawyers are amongst the most disorganised people I know, drowning in paper. The one who did the conveyancing for my flat, 21 years ago, nearly cost me the entire thing. (It was completion day. I was on the North Circular with a Transit full of furniture, when I heard that we weren't going to complete. Why? Because a certain form hadn't been processed in time. This is a mortgage form that he forgot to get me to sign when I was in his office signing contracts, etc, several weeks earlier. I found out about it at 10am on the Thursday one week before completion and asked for it to be express couriered to me at work to sign and return. It arrived at 5pm. (I'd had the Post Room standing by all day, ready to get a courier to send it back.) Since it was so late, I drove it to their office myself and put it through the letter box.)
Hear a smacking sound? That's the sound of deadlines flying past a lawyer...

I’m sorry you’ve had so much trouble with your case Laura. As a (non practising) lawyer I’ll just say that it’s a very stressful job, it’s not as well-paid as people might think and it’s one in which clients often have unrealistic expectations. And yes, we have heard all the jokes, often told to my face because people thought I’d find it funny. That’s one of the reasons why I no longer practise.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.7

For the record, I have worked with and used some excellent lawyers, who were well organised and on-the-ball. It is a difficult job which requires the absorption of a tremendous amount of data, very quickly, and requires ninja organisational skills. It's another role where salaries have not increased in the last 30 years. (Most professions haven't.)
