I’ve been knitting a pair of socks with self striping yarn and took great care to start the second sock so that the yarn matched. I’m about four inches down the foot and there’s a knot and I find they’ve missed out yards of the sequence. So my socks will not match grrrrr!!It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!8

If it's close enough to the toe, I might consider undoing the first one, so that I could use some other yarn to stripe in so they match... but then I really really really hate non-matching socks
I even do spiral designs so that they are mirrored on the pair

Mary - really annoying about the self striping yarn.Well christmas knitting started.I started a pair of wrist warmers before Christmas last year which haven't been touched since so back on the go with those. It will give me time to think about what else I might like to make. The wrist warmers were half started as a trial to see how the wool knitted up before doing a hat and I thought I'd probably end up pulling it back but as it looked quite nice I thought I would do a pair of wristwarmers and then a matching hat. I still have the yarn for the fisherman's rib type hat which was never knitted - although it did 5 iterations (and I think I knitted 3 hats worth) but nothing quite seemed right. Nothing "wrong" as such with the later ones but just didn't seem right. I think I need to have a bit of a play with the yarn and do a few trials of patterns and see what might be suitable. I think one of the issues is although nice it is not very stiff if that makes sense so it doesn't hold a pattern as well as it might. I'm wondering if perhaps using smaller needles might be better.2024 Fashion on the Ration - 3.5/66.5 coupons remaining1 cardigan - 5 coupons13 prs ankle socks - 13 coupons5 prs leggings - 10 coupons4 prs dungarees - 24 coupons1 cord jacket - 11 couponstotal 63 coupons6

Do you have enough yarn left to find where it would match up again?2025 Fashion on the ration

At least it’s on the foot and won’t be visible when you have shoes on. (I’m assuming they’re top down and not toe up.)
What brand is the yarn? The frugalista in me suggests complaining to the manufacturer. You may get a discount voucher or a free skein. (Coupon free, of course.)

@PipneyJane, I was up near Rhyl. Only for a couple of days, though, and quite a lot of that was taken up trying to find out whether my van was on the verge of dying or not. (Luckily not - quite literally, a false alarm!) I did manage to dash into a charity shop in Rhos-on-sea & snaffle a lovely wool blanket, woven in Scotland, for £2.95, but didn't have time to look at clothing!
That said, whilst there I noticed that my favourite mid-sleeved Breton top, which I've had for about 15 years, had a hole in it, which I laboriously mended with some horrible cheap thread from a little plastic mending kit - which will now be replaced with a sensible home-made one - but noticed several more as I stitched. I tried to mend those last night, with better thread & lighting, but the holes just grew to engulf my attempts to mend them; the fabric's simply had it. So I ran out this morning to buy two very similar tops from the little Cr3w Clothing store up in town, because it's an absolute staple - goes with jeans, smart trousers, skirts, jackets, sloppy joes - whatever, really! And I'd had a refund for something else to my credit card, which I hardly ever use; two tops would cancel that out nicely & take me to a 2p credit balance. To my surprise, though, the tops were 3 for the price of 2, so I now have 3; 2 in one colourway and 1 in a slightly different one. So I've added 15 to my coupon "score" as I imagine they're equivalent to blouses.
Nowhere near caught up yet, but I'm dead busy this weekend so will have to leave further reading until next week!Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)5 -
Well - I would say i've done a Pip, however I know that Pip would have been carefully counting out her coupons and would not be as oblivious as me. Finally I have been to the local farmers market and I was able to buy the carded Lincoln Longwool to play with. A planned purchase but obviously because she had small and large bags and the small would not be big enough I bought the large bag. Didn't check the weight on the bag when I bought it but I can now report that I am 11 coupons down. (How I miss the smiley with the sticking up hair.)

My work here, is done.
(I miss that smiley, too, and the one that actually rolled on the floor laughing.)
When you do play with the Lincoln Longwool, please report back about how the fibres behaved, their length, etc. I’ve never even seen it, so have no idea what it is like.
