I never accused anyone on here of racism, I was referring to the press ......

Anyway I stand by what I said.....I do not like the way the thread has been so hypercritical of people in the public eye of late. I do not like the direction it is taking. So with regret......4

With regret what? Tell us what you were agreeing with in a post accusing me and anyone else who mentioned MM of racism.4

I did admire Dolly Parton yesterday. Personally I don't like those cutaway sleeves but she showed she was up for the vaccine, put her money where her mouth is by donating hugely to the vaccine research and even had a song for the occasion.

I'm fed up with Meghan coverage too. I find the hypocrisy of the situation overwhelming. Why leave the country for a life out of the public eye and then create a massive media hype? It does seem particularly insensitive at the moment with Prince Phillip's health causing concern. The photo of the fussy interior was the stylist's own home Wednesday to show what sort of image, and at what cost, she creates for her customers. Apparently there's an interview in a magazine this week where the PM's girlfriend describes the flat, as it was ,as a John Lewis nightmare.
There's a film on BBC4 tonight that I really enjoyed in the cinema. It's called A United Kingdom. It's set in the late 1940s and while it's thought provoking (it explores the issue of race from different angles) it's a very watchable drama based on a true story. It won't appeal if you like action films but if you like the approach of things like Endeavour and Foyle's War then it's a similar treatment.
I cut my fringe just a little bit yesterday. Probably only 1cm and I'm happy with it so may try a teeny bit more at the weekend. My DH has a Zoom meeting this afternoon. He's been moaning that his hair is too long and unmanageable. I've offered to try cutting it for him or blow drying his hair but he refused. He also had a call from his hairdresser offering him an illegal haircut but he wouldn't do that. Goodness knows what we'll be looking like in 5 weeks! 🤣
I thought Dolly was great, I love her confidence, if she could bottle it she would be even richer than she is.
I loved that film, it was close to home as my late MIL and FIL experienced lots of racism in the 1940s. He came here from a commonwealth country as a soldier in WWII, they had a whirlwind romance, he got a weekend leave and they got married and had a 2 day honeymoon. They didn't meet up again for 2 years. Unfortunately he died very young, only in his 20s so my husband has no memory of him. Not quite the same as marrying a king but it was hard for her as a young white woman with a mixed race baby and no husband, of course many unmarried women during and after the war claimed to be widows so I think she got alot of disbelief about that.
I think I might have to follow your example and trim my fringe, I hate my hair in my eyes so I don't think I can last another month.
Well done to your husband for not succumbing to a criminal haircut! Maybe we should look at out mad hair as a badge of honour for the rule followers.5 -

I like having the option of going to another room if needed. A friend has an open plan flat and she said the downsides are cooking smells and also the noise of the washing machine. Personally, I love having a garden. We don't use our garden as much as we could, but I really value having the outdoor space.4

I deliberately kept a low profile and said nothing, however I agree entirely.I feel a great deal of sympathy for the poor woman. Unfortunately the abuse heaped upon Megan, by not just the palace, but also the tabloid press isn't just racist, it's also about class, and yes, misogyny. They painted her and her family as little better than trailer trash. And what's wrong with being raised on a trailer park (yes I know she wasn't but I'm just using this as an example). And like Dolly Parton (who is another who was born dirt poor and considered by many to be white trash) Meghan has worked hard, bettered herself and used her wealth and fame to try and do some good in the world,The tabloid press are vile. They do this all the time.......they build someone up, only to tear them down. They are like jackals. They did it with Fergie, Diana at times and even Kate in the early days (calling her Waity Katey). They have even turned on Mark Rashford.I never thought this thread would become so nasty. It goes completely against what the ethos of this thread is supposed to be about. I am so disappointed. If all you want to do is b i t c h about people in the public eye then I leave you to it.I'm done......
I'm not quite sure what is meant to have been said that was b***hy, racist or even derogatory in any way.
Comments have been made about the decor at what we now know is the home of the stylist alleged to be redoing 10 Downing Street, and comments have been made about being fed up of Harry & Meghan in the press.
I have commented about the apparently contradictory attitudes towards the media by Harry & Meghan in that a life away from the media is desired and yet 2 of the highest profile interviewers in America have been selected for (hyped & leaked) in-depth conversations for TV broadcast worldwide.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

To be honest I haven't read anything I would consider remotely racist on the past few pages. I don't see that at all. I think public figures are criticised by people in normal life and this thread is like a conversation that we would have if we met in real life. You would talk about the government and the PM Boris Johnson (who has been criticised on here before) and the royal family are public figures too. I agree the British press is terrible with demonising certain people in the public eye, though. That is why I avoid reading a lot of the so-called news.8

I didn’t see the comments about Harry & Meghan as racist either - they have both declared that they wanted to step away from the limelight and have more privacy and yet they both arrange to be interviewed on very high profile TV shows - to me that seems very contradictory.8
