Floss - there are drawbacks to a flat like the neighbours above or below and the extra cost of the service charge etc... I don't know if I have an unrealistic view of living in a flat. I imagine it would be glamorous like the one on the TV show Frasier. Probably very unrealistic, thinking about it.

That reminds me of the Stacey Dooley series on DNA the other night. One chap's parents had met in the war when his dad was stationed in England, and he had wondered about why his dad didn't come back and marry or take his mum over to the States. Apparently as his dad was a Texan, state law said that he was not allowed to marry a white woman, and his CO wouldn't have given him permission to marry in the UK 😥thepurplepixie said:
...I loved that film, it was close to home as my late MIL and FIL experienced lots of racism in the 1940s. He came here from a commonwealth country as a soldier in WWII, they had a whirlwind romance, he got a weekend leave and they got married and had a 2 day honeymoon. They didn't meet up again for 2 years. Unfortunately he died very young, only in his 20s so my husband has no memory of him. Not quite the same as marrying a king but it was hard for her as a young white woman with a mixed race baby and no husband, of course many unmarried women during and after the war claimed to be widows so I think she got alot of disbelief about that...2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

I'll have to watch it, was it BBC? I do like Stacey Dooley, she has such a friendly relaxed style. There must have been so many stories like that from WWII and other wars. Years ago my mum had a neighbour, she always said her husband was Polish. One day he said he was German and that for years (about 40 at that point) he had always said he was Polish to avoid prejudice.Floss said:

It was Sugarbaby talking about the "demonising of any public figures". that I was agreeing with.
Can this thread and the other thread started by LL please not be a platform for racism or the demonising of any public figure. There are other threads or other social media platforms where these types of viewpoints and comments can be shared if you really feel the compulsion to air such viewsNot just Megan. And my regret is that this thread has become confrontational and divisive.

I deliberately kept a low profile and said nothing, however I agree entirely."
So did you entirely agree with what she said or not? If you didn't entirely agree maybe you would like to make it clear that you weren't accusing anyone on here of being racist.5 -
Thanks, that's my TV sorted out for tonight. Will be interesting for GS to watch, it will seem like ancient history to him and of course for a teenager I suppose it is.Floss said:Purplepixie I think it was, BBC2 if I remember correctly5 -
Hello Ladies,
Wow. I did not accuse anyone of racism.
I have autonomy as do all of you. Your televisions have an on/off button. You like me have the ability to switch channels whenever something is being shown that you would prefer not to watch. The same goes for print media in all of it's forms, which you can choose to read or not.
Now can we get back to Frump to Fab whether that is about our persons and/or our homes as it is a subject that is open to so much discussion

Some of us want to be able to watch the news, the things I listed were
The pandemic - like many I've had enough of it after a year
Harry and Megan - again on constantly and very uninteresting - both of them so nothing racist about it
Rishi Sunak - not so bad, the budget's been done to death the last week with leaks and statements, hopefully that will settle down.
My hair - a lost cause until hairdressers are open.
We talk about many things on here, how we are feeling, what is worrying us, clothes, homes, food, families I don't see any need to censor it. Just like people can use the on/off button they can pass over posts that don't interest them.
You referred to racism at least three times in your post so it is hardly surprising if that is seen as an accusation of racism.
I was very hurt and offended by your post.7
