@slm6002 can you not just move the money into pots as it comes in?  That's how YNAB works.  I would have thought you could the same with your spreadsheets although it's probably easier to do it once you have all your money in the bank.

Yes its all very simple on spreadsheet I just need to change it for the rest of the year so I know when I look at it what i should have left.  Only a 5 min job but hopefully writing it down will help me to actually do it :)

Morning all, I've been up since half 6 which should not exist in my mind lol (not a morning person), but needed to clear the way for the washing machine delivery men.  I can see I am the next delivery on the map, but that is at least an hour away so will keep tidying.  After that has been delivered I will wait for brother to plumb it in and remove the old one this afternoon.  I also have a new builder coming round later and hopefully willing to quote on splitting the girls room.  I have warned him that I already know they will be small so hoping for no talk on loft extensions etc and just how much he will charge.  DD1 is going for a walk into town with her best friend.  Her previous plans were cancelled yesterday which she is a little gutted about as its been in the diary since school broke up, but her other friends double booked.  Trying to get her to do some revision as she is now going into her exam year, but she is stubborn.  She knows what she wants to do next and the required grades to get in are fairly low so there is no incentive in her mind to do better.  Also trying to get a head start on DS schooling as with his learning issues he needs time to absorb things so we try to start earlier that normal.  We had a look at the subjects he can choose for exams and have narrowed them down to a mix of btechs and exams.  Knowing their school we will need to do a lot of the learning ourselves at home to get the grades. DD2 is doing her sats this year but seems to know what she is doing and gets good grades on the practice papers the school gives them.  Either way it's going to be a busy exam and school year, plus I am working more hours than before.  I do love a new school year.  For me its more of a new start than the actual school year.

    Have a great day

I feel exactly the same about a new school year! It’s the time for new routines and goals lol! Like a little reset on life 😊

you could probably put the new machine in yourself.. I learnt the other week when I had to unplumb and replumb the washing machine and dishwasher 4 times in a week for the plasterer etc. It’s only 2 pipes and plugging it in. I have to pay the kitchen fitter £130 to fit the new ones into the units and I’m really begrudging it tbh.

Good luck with the builder and stick to your guns. Xxx

I did think about it but will watch brother this time and then do as and when needed next time.  Going to get the older 2 to watch to so when I do attempt it I will have moral support, plus when they move out and need to do it they will know and not need to call their dad!

Ok, builder has been, actually listened and didn't try to sell loft extension.  He took down all measurements needed and will let me know in week to 10 days.  I just need to check if I need planning permission or building regulations for the new window and then that will be fine.  I liked this one.  Fingers crossed the price is reasonable.  Feeling positive

That sounds very positive @slm6002.  Always good if the builder seems nice.  We found a great builder a couple of years ago so will call on him whenever we need work done.  Of course because he's good you always have to wait a while until he's able to fit you in!  But I always think that's also a good sign if they're busy like that.

Exactly, once I have found one I will certainly been keeping hold of his details.  I asked when he might fit us in and he said he is building extensions up until march next year, but as it's a fairly simple job maybe October time.  This sounds great to me.  I have just contacted local council to see about building regulations and planning.  I don't think we need them but always good to check and the builder said to check just in case.
I've had lots of bad luck and today is going really well so far, I am waiting for the bad new to come along.  Positive thinking all the way and hopefully it will only be a good day here :)

Ok so its no to planning permission but yes to building regs.  The builder has a relative who deals with this and said to go through him for this.  I just emailed him and asked him to put that on his quote too.
