Ok realised I need spreadsheet to look at monies (it's how I work best) which is a shame as I am in the mood for money sorting today. Nevermind brain can whirl a bit while I wait. Not heard from washing machine people as yet and washing is now starting to pile up. Will ring again when offices are open at 10. Realised garage needs sorting as well so electrician can get in there next week.

Yay I have my laptop back - screen looks huge compared to phone lol. Internet is much quicker so far. Another job ticked off my list and got it back before they shut for the rest of the weekend so I am happy.
Washing machine people have been sent a reminder to call me on Monday as their office was shut at weekends according to the lady I spoke to at my insurance place. I am debating trying the washing machine and hoping it is water tight but that might be pushing my luck - 1 hinge is still in place out of 2.
Spotted a cafe job that DD1 is going to go for, so she is currently working her way through free food hygiene course online in a hope that it will show that she has made the effort at least. There is also a better cafe job closer too, which is only 4 hours each Saturday, but with exams this coming year it might be a better idea. It will give her some more experience and confidence, along with some spending money too - that is if 16 year olds are allowed. She is at her volunteering job at the library tomorrow so I have told her she needs to ask if she can put them down as a referee. We will be bulking up her very empty cv this evening i expect.
Purchase 1 game for DS bday and another is on my watchlist. He is fairly easy to buy for as each year tends to want a new game for his console. Also bought a little gift for DD2 but missed the delivery earlier. Delivery driver couldn't access my door - no idea what that was all about as nothing in the way, but they will try again another time. Still nothing for DD1 whose bday is the first one in Sept. No idea currently, but will keep thinking.Me, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

I do not like spending money. It has become clear in the past few days. I have paid for laptop to be revamped, for the vets and a big chunk of the holiday fund pot has vanished even though we were there for 1 night only. It does not come naturally to me and seeing the money disappear from my bank in big chunks feels wrong. All of the money was there and all of it was allocated for the purpose it was used for so not sure why I feel like this. I still have my emergency fund, I just don't feel as safe. I have no idea how I will feel when big diy things happen and more money disappears. I told my mum this last night and she said I am allowed treats (faster laptop) every now and again. I think I have had to save for so long to pay off debts it just doesn't come very naturally. I have updated my spreadsheet to show the drop in benefits from the stopping of the covid portion of universal credits next month onwards, but until I get a 'normal' wage slip I am not sure how it will affect me.
Still not heard from the architect on how much he would like to charge me, might send an email to chase that one. On a positive I think I have got someone to come and take the moving boxes out of my garage. There really are quite a lot so hope they want them all. I will then have space for the electrician plus I will be able to move around in there again. I need to get rid of some paint that we don't need and only keep the bits we do (I have 2 full shelving units of them). Might be able to fr33cycle some of them or see if there is anywhere locally that wants to recycle them somehow. Ok just heard lady might not be able to collect the boxes until end of next week now which is quite annoying but at least they will hopefully go at some point.Me, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

Morning all. Yesterday I emailed the architect and after a few emails to and from, and after checking his company out I told him to start drawing up the plans for my application to the council. He will deal with it all which I like as I have never done anything like this before. I feel happier that I am t least moving in the right direction.
I am awaiting my washing machine phone call as running out of clothes. Fingers crossed they will call soon and book me in early this week. Also had another enquiry for the moving boxes in the garage. If this one can collect today or tomorrow they are hers as I need them gone now.
I didn't get round to the freezer list yesterday so will try to do this so we know what's in both of those to keep us going. Trying not to buy much this week to save some pennies.Me, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

Ok I have an appointment for the washing machine repair. First attempt was 3rd September (16 days with no machine - I don't think so). Told them to try again and then they went with another company and they will turn up wed (only 7 days without). Agreed but told them he needs to have parts in his van to fix it or I will not be happy - 'its only a hinge, that should be fine'. Felt like saying although its only a hinge the machine is almost 16 years old now so make sure its the right hinge! I must have paid enough in insurance to qualify for new bigger load machine lol. It could be delivered tomorrow. I did mention this to them, but apparently as long as its fixable they will keep going. I know its better for then environment and newer ones don't last so long, but still.Me, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

Today heard washing machine man was not turning up tomorrow as only works tue and thurs in my area. Even if he came thursday the part would not be in his truck as the machine is so old....see above post and i told you so.... anyway part ordered but it wont arrive anytime soon and then there is a bank holiday. They rang back a little later and said they have put the order through another supplier as they know i have been messed about. He can come and fit it on 31st Aug. Only 14 days without a machine. I agreed but said i will contact insurance people again as it is getting silly now. What is the point of paying for insurance to avoid this sort of thing. Lady at insurance place is calling repair people questioning why they can not turn up tomorrow. I tried to tell her even if he could he would not have the part. OK machine is not viable to repair so they will give me £134. Feel miffed as always been advertised as replace or repair, not repair or give a small sum towards it because machine is so old. The amount I have been paying has gone up each year yet the amount they are willing to pay out goes down. Makes no sense. I have also now cancelled said insurances and will put money in piggy bank for when the next one breaks.
I have ordered a new machine and it arrives on Thursdays before 11am. I cant wait and have book my dad to come over to plumb it in. Really hoping the sun stays out so i can get everything washed and dried quicklyMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

I think having a home equipment savings pot is a better idea than all the added monthly insurance generally, especially with all their messing around.
I have so many pots including a future tech one for my next phone and laptop but it makes me feel more secure I have most things covered.
I am also not good now at spending money even if I have budgeted it for certain things, holidays I am ok with but not so much on dinners or drinks out. I guess post pandemic we all realise how much we saved by not going out!DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

I feel drained after the past few days but glad on the outcome. I am in a much better place now that I was 11 years ago when I started paying the insurance. I now have an emergency fund and if needed that is what it is for. I am happy to cancel itMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

It's one of my paydays today, so bank is looking a little healthier now although still waiting on insurance money. I need to re-jig my spreadsheet as all of the money now comes in towards the end of each month rather than dotted throughout the month. I need to adjust when I put moneys into pots.
We have nothing planned today other than older 2 swimming using their free vouchers around lunch time which is lovely as we've not had many quiet days. Tomorrow will be busy though so need to have a tidy and get ready for that. I'm also still waiting for someone to come and collect the moving boxes from my garage as they keep postponing. Hoping they turn up soonMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19
