Managed to meal plan today and then do a proper shop online for delivery tomorrow.  Today we had jacket potatoes and salad.  I even picked the first few tomatoes from the garden to go with it.  They were so tasty,  now need to wait for the rest to ripen.

Just hoovered the bathroom and removed a bag of rubbish the builders had left.  All ready for the floor now

Flooring guy here banging away.  Contacted builders as pipes outside leaking when the sink is used.

There are currently so many builders along our road and not counting the ones building the house at the back.  2 houses down the street are having big renovations from the looks of it.  Next door is currently having their windows and doors replaced and of course we are having our work done.  At least I don't feel guilty for making so much noise.

As nothing much else to do I have been taking part in some more surveys.  There is a nice £12 one, but my goodness it is long.  I keep having breaks as eyes go funny after a while.

Shopping is due anytime now so no doubt the same time as building materials are being bought into the house.  Also expecting shower screen to be delivered ready for tomorrow. Hoping it arrives before we go out.

Booked in to swim (and shower) at 3pm - need to get children booked in as well, but unfortunately they cant do it over the phone today - every other time is fine.

DD1 has her first horse riding lesson later too as she fancied learning.  She is hoping if she can get a job she will be able to afford it.  I think there are a lot of pots she is hoping to fill with her money and they may take a little longer to fill than planned, but will let her have a go at finding this out first.

    Right back to the survey!

Shower arriving tomorrow instead.  Fitting Friday.  That means it will be a full 4 weeks without washing facilities.

    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Yes she will learn.  She is wanting a new car, plus the additional insurance cost as it would be bigger and better,  to travel abroad with her friend next summer, horse riding, to see friends in the evening, pay for phone, petrol, gym membership, new wardrobe every season, books, hair appointments to colour hair every so often, and they are the costs I can think of.  Not sure minimum wage will get her all of that.  I guess we all have dreams.

Been for our swim and are all clean now. Still working our way through the long survey - only 2 more sections to go!

Several deliveries expected today but looks like no builders turning up.  It does mean the children can have a small lie in without the noise of the builders.  I seem to have woken up before my alarm again even though I feel sleepy.  I spoke too soon as it does sound like next door have more work going on with their windows so maybe not too much of a lie in then, although they are very good at sleeping through everything.

DD1 has an interview today so hopefully that goes well.  An offer would be great, although there are other more suitable and better paid jobs that she has applied for but haven't closed as yet.  We will see.

Today is benefit pay day so I have transferred the money into the correct pots. Holiday pot now stands at £300.  This needs to cover the remaining weeks of the summer holidays plus our week away.  Food will come out of the normal pot so it will just be the treats and meals out plus activities.  Not a huge budget but do able I think (to be honest it has to be) as most of the activities planned at home are either free or using vouchers or very cheap.

Only spend today may be a spare tire for the car.  I have been meaning to find one as I prefer to have one just in case.  I do have the stuff to spray in the tyre but if stranded in the middle of no where I'd rather have the spare tyre.  Hoping to get it before our week away so I know we are safe.

DD1 just got a call with another job interview, although she dropped phone down the side of the bed before she could answer it, so we only have the basics from the message left.  She will call them back after her interview which she needs to leave for in 15 min

Shower screen is going in - 24 hours until we can shower!

DD's are having fish and chips tonight so DS and I are trying a new recipe.  It is jambalaya in the slow cooker.  Very easy to put together so if it is tasty that will be a new one on the menu.  I don't normally manage to cook rice well so I am a little dubious but worth a go while I have the time and energy to cook something else if it is a complete disaster.

This morning the local auction house were offering free valuations.  I took a couple of books that I have had in the loft.  They belonged to my great aunt and she had collected stamps from cleaning products to get them. They are Disney with 3D pictures.  Apparently they are from early 1950's the guy thinks.  They come in boxes that have stamps with the previous king on, so I knew they must be fairly old.  Turns out they are only worth memories, but that is ok as at least I know.  I did however find 40p on the path on my walk home.

No other plans really today other than maybe cutting the grass as not managed it yet this week, plus I need to sort a little more for the horrible job I had to do the other week.  Hopefully that is almost sorted.

The slow cooker jambalaya sounds interesting.  Please let us know if it's good.  That's something I occasionally cook but would be great if a SC recipe works rather than having to stand over the hob!
