Hi,
I love your posts. They jog my memory to things I haven't given attention to in a while, emails for example, I haven't looked at emails for about 6 months! Haha I hope there isn't anything urgent in there!
Mrs SD, decorating ,my nemesis. Decorating one room seems to just make the rest of the house a total tip ,nice when it is finished though. (mine isn't ,still not redone the gloss paint). I have the same problem with carpet. But I will wait until the building work is done at an unspecified point in the future.
I am glad to hear that you are having a rest bit by bit. You never stop and it is ALL for other people!
3secondmemory,I don't think you realise what a strong, capable woman you are. You get loads done and take risks by doing new things. Credit where credit is due. x
We had a trip out yesterday to the bank, sounds odd but to go to a bank is a good 20 mile round trip. Went to a few charity shops. Oooo for about a tenner I bought some nearly new ugg boots,2 jumpers, a top and best of all a Boden jacket for Mr V for £1. I also picked up a few bits for Christmas gifts. Had a sort out of my gift drawer and outed some things that can go for the young lad fundraiser. Also outed some greetings cards that might sell at the coffee morning.
Craft group this afternoon where I can offload some stash for various causes.
5 items to fundraiser
2 leather purses
reel of Christmas ribbon
another lampshade
wicker shopping basket
2 stainless steel flasks
box of preserve jars
hurricane lantern
ginger jar
red candle and holder
silver candle holder
decorative aluminium bowl
funnel
2 pewter jugs
leggings with hole
sweatshirt, scruffy
pants with duff elastic
total 851

TC77 , I found the Marie Kondo way the only one that helped me get rid of large amounts and quickly, going looking for all the like items and piling together certainly focused the mind! 😨 you can see that you don't need 3 slotted spoons etc!! Also someone on that board said that if something can be dual use to use that and get rid of other items .
Since I got tidy the only thing I struggle with is clothes ,but try for 1 in 1 out. And I do have lots of wardrobe space !!😄 I regularly read these threads to keep myself in check and think of things that hasn't been looked at for a while.
Everyone is doing well, RL is a nuisance getting in the way!!!Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.7 -
I have been prodded to declutter more by a story my parents told me a few weeks ago: my children's choir mistress and her husband (in their early 80s) were living comfortably, postponing decluttering, leisurely looking for a senior semi-assisted-living apartment, when she suddenly had a stroke, spent a fortnight in hospital and was not allowed to return home. They had to accept the first place they were offered, he moved in with her, and now their 2 adult children and 4 adult grandchildren, who live about 2 hours away (that's the other side of the country
) suddenly have to decide what is the important stuff to move to the new apartment, empty the house, and prep everything for selling. They lived in that house for about 60 years! 4 bedrooms full of stuff!

1. KITCHEN WILL CONTINUE TO BE LEFT CLEAN & TIDY EVERY NIGHT
2. JUST DO ONE THING EVERY DAY (courtesy of bit_by_bit) OTHER THAN DAY TO DAY CLEANING & DECLUTTERING
3. ONCE A WEEK LEAVE THE HOUSE (e.g. Go into city centre for bank & butcher; go to local town for cs dropping off or buying; visit the pub with DH 😉
4. CLEAN & EMPTY SURFACE AREAS - DAILY
Tuesday has been a bit of sunshine, heavy showers & currently very overcast & threatening rain. DH went out this morning for a small sm shop & an attempt to fill up the bike - success 🥳 Went out again a little later & filled up the 2nd bike. Happily no queues 👏 DH & I managed to find spaces to move the rest of the bedroom furniture to (apart from the bed) The bed has been moved away from the wall & covered + I dusted the walls & vacuumed a little - the dust bunnies were big enough to trip over 😔 😉 so once the room is all decorated & recarpeted I will need to set up a proper cleaning regime 😔 DH is now finishing the sugar soaping & rinsing of the ceiling & walls. He is hoping to start an initial coat of white on the ceiling. We also need to tone down the green paint on the walls (before painting with our selected colour) which might require 2 coats of white emulsion. We also have another task - the rather expensive & good quality trellis has just been delivered so we need to put that up & plant the clematis 😔 Oh well, I just need to ‘stir my stumps’ 😉 & get on with doing stuff. I have dealt with my post including immediately sorting out a potential problem by phone BEFORE it became a frog 😉😉
1856 - 1857 Newspaper, plastic bottle - recycled 1858 Emptied vacuum - binned
3secondmemory, I am with you in the ‘impulsivity club’ - less time to get nervous 😉 Perhaps having a map that you can look at will help alleviate the problem or maybe doing the trip in the day & keeping your eyes closed for a few minutes at a time? Vulpix has hit the nail on the head - You are a strong capable woman & are an example to us all👏🙂
vulpix thank you for reminding 3secondmemory what a marvel she is 👏 Fully agree, decorating one room at a time is always a pain - perhaps we should sign up with Mr Knowles for his TV show 😉😉 The trip to the bank doesn’t sound odd at all - just a fact of life nowadays ☹️ but well done on utilising the trip out to your advantage 👏 Excellent decluttering vulpix 👏
Brilliant post wort 👏 Nice to find someone who used the MK method & it worked for you 🙂 I quite agree that RL is a nuisance getting in the way of decluttering/tidying 😉😉
How sad Siebrie ☹️ but as you say a reminder that we don’t know what is waiting for us around the next corner & so should not put off things that will make our lives easier in the long run.

Well today has come and mostly gone and I've done little - I think I needed to catch up after travelling all last week. I got up really early and went and sat with small people before taking them to school (DIL had early shift) - popped to MrT for small shop and then came home and sat on settee reading book - fell asleep for several hours.
@3secondmemory - I also hate to travel in dark and to not be able to keep track of where I am. I like to have a map with me and travel on tube on rare trips to London as you can always tell where you are. When I have to go somewhere new of an evening I will often go and find it first in day light. My travelling companion last week has no sense of direction outside of small areas of her Northern home town. She was very trusting as I had only the vaguest idea of where I was most of the time. A satnav is a boon to a lone traveller although I don't always trust it.
A few things have got done:
1503 All October birthday cards bought
1504 2 large bags of mixed plastic to recycling at MrT
1505 School photo downloads done
1506 Weeding
1507 5 bags of compost on back garden flower bed
1508 Spring bulbs planted in flower bed
1509 Summer plants cleared from front pots
1510 More vegetable pots emptied
1511 OOD food colouring replaced and pots recycled
1512 E mails answered or deleted
1513 Plumber's bill paid
1514 Some fluffy toys from DD given to GC
A few frogs to swallow tomorrow.

Not much decluttering happening here, RL keeps on getting in the way, how very dare it !! Anyway recycled today 2 large cardboard boxes and the brown paper inners which contained DGD's birthday presents. Decluttered DGD to school yesterday and today...... and tomorrow, does that count ? 😁 DH has been to his surgery to declutter some blood and also have an ECG, seems the GP isn't happy with the latter and he's sent the result to the cardiac consultant, so more for me to worry about 😕 I declutterd some cash when we visited a local garden centre for coffee and carrot cake and I also bought another xmas present, which has been put aside. Daily detritus, plus an ice cream tub and 2 plastic fruit punnets out too, along with some emails.MrsSD please send your decorating mojo my way. If I remember correctly I stated on here in January that I was going to declutter all the decorating jobs this year, however it's now October and sadly not one job has been finished, let alone really started and I'm ashamed of my lack of progress 😥 I have only got as far as bringing in a pot of gloss paint from the shed, found a new paintbrush ready to paint a radiator in the dining room and taken the border paper off the bedroom wall so it's ready for painting. Please feel free to give me a kick up the proverbial.Love and hugs to anyone in need.nan
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently7 -
Nannywindow don't worry about what you haven't done so far this year; maybe find a small achievable things that could be taken care of and finished so you can say you've finished xx job rather than not one job has been finished.
I really didn't want to tackle my paperwork this evening but the thought of my commitment on here made me do it. I negotiated a compromise with my other half that I could skip over the boring pension section this evening so I have that to go back to. Weirdly there was not a single piece of paper to be shredded after this15 minute stint which was a bit of a disappointment but I'm sure there will be some shredding and/or recycling tomorrow. Some of the work files are hard to let go of but if I don't want to do it I'm hanging on to them for a bit longer.

Hi all
Mrs SD decorating bedrooms is the hardest I found. I have had the house rewired and every wall and ceiling replastered except the kitchen which needs a refit lol. I found myself sleeping on a matress on top of a plastic sheet on the bare floorboards in the dinning room for a while with the bed base shoved on the landing so the new carpet could be put down after the room was painted. The rest of the house is decorated now by means of putting some furniture in storrage and moving what is left from room to room. It has been a marathon and it's not finished yet but the plumber has been today, YAY, and the boiler has been serviced, the seeping radiator sorted and the suspicious damp patch on the kitchen wall investigated. It is not something under the bath leaking but is probably due to some repointing needed where a builder built the conservatory and didn't sort it properly. So the bad news is I now need a builder but the good news is I can get some of my flooring done downstairs and the carpet layed on the stairs and landing. Some major decluttering of money but I have saved for this and I am a very happy bunny at feeling I am finally making some progress.
@3secondmemory, I totally agree with Mrs SD and Vulpix, you are doing brilliantly and I am sure your trip will be amazingAfter so long not being able to go anywhere or do anything much it will be so good to be sailing around somewhere different.
Forgot to say in my last post I have decluttered my booster jab and my flu jab 9 days later, both fine, only slight aching arm with each so hopefully I can see off any virus that dares to come near methough I am still testing twice weekly
Worn out after the excitement of having the plumber in so off to sleep now
Take care everyone8
