2021 MISSION DECLUTTER and CLEAN

@[Deleted User] I am definitely a minimalist, but since I had a baby in 2017 there has definitely been a change. I had kept most baby things in preparation for baby #2 however I recently accepted that will no longer happen and so have all of that “stuff” to declutter now. And that letting go of things is emotional as well as physical. Also for me LO has been all encompassing and so time to keep on top of things has not really been available. But now I have made some time in my week.
My DH is a hoarder of anything which might be useful for someone one day..... although he is good at tidying as he goes along, and will do a thorough cleaning task if it’s really necessary. We moved to a house from a tiny one bed flat so everything looks tidy as it’s all put away (apart from toys of course) But that doesn’t mean there isn’t clutter, and it plays on my mind. DH and possibly others don’t understand this, as if you can fit it in the house and it’s not in the way then why not just keep it...
so I think it’s all really linked to how you feel. I can buy extra dishwasher tablets or washing liquid if it’s on offer and reconcile that extra back stock, but if I find things out of date, for example recently a load of toiletries I didn’t know I had, then that needs addressing ASAP (in my mind) I have approx 18 travel size hotel body lotions on my list to use up now.
Today I found 2 different collections of gift bags. They are all in the same place now and I am guessing I have around 40. Irritatingly when we were allowed to go to someone’s garden last summer I remember looking for a wine bag and not being able to find one. So I need to organise these a bit better and make them more accessible. And hopefully reuse them when we are allowed to socialise again and give gifts! I put them in the office for now, but this room needs an edit as I haven’t been in there much because DH has been wfh.13 -
1. KITCHEN WILL CONTINUE TO BE LEFT CLEAN & TIDY EVERY NIGHT2. JUST DO ONE THING EVERY DAY (courtesy of bit_by_bit) OTHER THAN DAY TO DAY CLEANING & DECLUTTERING
3. CLEAN ONE ROOM (TOP TO BOTTOM) EVERY MONTH (hopefully 3 weekly by the end of the year)Saturday was a lovely bright day as is Sunday - the sun is shining 🙂 so hopefully drying out the rather sodden ground 🤞Saturday was a good day - the third builder turned up to inspect the collapsed wall & after he measured up he estimated the number of bricks & the number of skips. After he left, DH calculated the cost of the bricks & skips & has a figure in mind for the whole project - three houses worth of wall. Whilst DH was conducting his investigations 😉 I emptied all 8 drawers in the wall unit - I found not one but two forgotten treasures 🙂 - a couple of stick up lights that can go under the kitchen cupboards to light up the work surface (with a remote) 🥳🥳 + the wireless doorbell that we bought many years ago & never set up - both had been shoved into a drawer to deal with later 😉 (So DH will be busy tomorrow 😉😉). When returning items to the drawers I took the opportunity to reorganise the contents - put like with like, got rid of a couple of small gadget boxes & relocated a couple of items to their forever homes so ended up with one completely empty drawer 🙂🥳. Dinner was posh burgers & chunky chips 😋 - although not very MSE 😔 we were helping out a local business 😉
404 - 408 Kitchen recycling, cardboard packaging/small boxes, 2 newspapers, drinks cans - Recycled
409 - 411 Kitchen detritus, uu pen, plastic packaging - binned
Ooh, well done - lots of cash🤞for lots of clutter Barny1979 👏
Good work tryingtoavoiddebt 👏 especially TWO modules of uni course work 👏🙂 Excellent work in the garden 👏 A return to normality - cheers to that 🥂.
Good work moneyonmymindsam 👏 Fingers crossed for quick sales 🤞 Shame about the bits of food BUT they were only bits 🙂 forgive yourself 😉 Nice cheerleading 👏🙂
Excellent work leelad 👏 Your daughter sounds like a typical youngster - disgruntled at being disturbed, but grateful that she now has a tidy, restful bedroom 😉 You must be so pleased that your planning has yielded results 👏 - you will soon run out of rooms to declutter 🤞😉 One more Gold Star ⭐️ on its way 🙂 Hopefully Sunday is dry & you can get out & about with your daughter 🤞 I hope your wife is doing OK 👌
You have been busy Gem-gem 👏 Taking advantage of the nicer weather 🙂Sorry you were feeling down yesterday GrannyKate ☹️ but well done on picking yourself up & doing so much decluttering 🙂👏 I am now imagining you & your sister battling it out in a decluttering competition 😉😉 By the by, you ‘cleaned’ the garden 😉The positivity is shining out of your post balabooberlies 🥳 especially the song - yes I am singing along 😉 Sunshine makes the world a brighter place & you made/are making the most of it 👏You must be so excited 😆 Everything is now in place for you to have a very busy Sunday 👏🙂D123456789, here is to insight 🙂 it really can help in getting motivated to declutter 👏 What a thought provoking post D123456789, thank you for sharing 👏 You appear to know yourself very well & I agree with you that our attitudes to ‘how much stuff we have’ is linked to how we feel about it. A big shout out to BarbCh for setting up the Declutter Mind .......... thread 👏 I am finally realising that a thoughtful & measured approach to the task aka hobby of decluttering is more useful to me, than my rather scattergun approach 😉 Good luck with the office decluttering 🤞Great work TC77 👏 the sunshine is invigorating as I can see from your post 🙂Great work ilovetea 👏 I do love a good list 😉😉
Hope you are now fully recovered vulpix 🤞 The warmer weather & longer days certainly do help us to become more active 🙂 Forget being pleasantly surprised, surely you should be ecstatic at such a low weekly spend 😉👏🥳 I had to smile at ‘MrV’s shed of wires’ 😁 - in this case Justin has proved a welcome guest 😉
Good work EnergyShifter 👏 Re the jumper, I am rather pleased for you that the charity shops haven’t been open as you obviously love the jumper & made a mistake putting it in the cs bag 😉Good work Happy_Kitties 👏 Do you have a ‘shed of wires’ - see vulpix’s post 🙂Well done Floss - another person inspired by the sunshine 👏 Good luck with the radical wardrobe sorting 🤞 I am curious as to which approach you will be taking 🧐 - one item out, make decision & start various piles OR everything out, return the clothing you are definitely keeping & then plough through the rest? Regardless of which approach you take, I will be willing you on to a successful declutter 🙂
Look at it this way allie23 - you are a successful declutterer - you have done it before 👏 + each time a bit of clutter creeps in, it is easier to sort out as you are not starting from scratch 🙂 Good luck with the office declutter & clean 🤞

Sold a bag on eBay! That's one item gone for tomorrow. I have a bid on a bundle too. Slowly getting there xSeptember 2017 Debt = £25330
Starting afresh.

Out today
1.Broken electric blanket.
2.Box.
Think my issue is that I try to make do, mend or repurpose to give it a new life, rather than just let it go.
Spend for me today was a collapsible washing up bowl. The other is absolutely donkeys years old is now under the sink. Will think on it, it's useful for washing cars etc but it's bulky so do I really need two
Shoes still in car - each clothes recycle bin I pass is still full.
One more eboy sale plus packaging today, hoping for another couple of sales tomorrow.

I've had a bad few days, Somehow we managed to get a sickness bug in the house
So I've been feeling a bit delicate today, I managed to declutter two aldi bags of life worth of recycling. I got rid of some silicone baking moulds that wouldn't come clean no matter how hard I tried, some old lunchboxes and cool bags, some horrible, old water bottles. I'm trying to be brutal with what I'm keeping, I've got to move it over 85 miles away. I'm making a list tonight of stuff that is not moving, stuff that is definitely moving and a maybe list. My thinking is that I can replace things if I need to, its just stuff.
My Ex's out of area has been moved forward, he's now being sent at the start of March instead of the start of April. Hopefully I will have moved by the time he gets back in July. I've also applied for two online jobs as chat sales advisors, hopefully I can actually get a job now.
I'm also planning on selling some clothes on an app I've found called vinted, I've bought a few thing for my daughters from off it. I've got clothes that my ex bought me that haven't really been worn as he didn't like my style so often bought things that he thought I should wear and got rid of the stuff I liked to wear.: DD1 23/11/09

Mrs SD - you'll be pleased to know my sister checked in on WhatsApp with her de-cluttering and cleaning tally for today in US. We both have quite a large home so too much space encourages just keeping it. I've been out for lunch at DS2 today - he ordered my new iphone12 for me with much lower sim charge. GS3 is pleased to accept my old iphone8.
I did clean and tidy greenhouse out which I forgot and have sorted small tool shed although it needs replacing. Not very old but tatty plastic and doors have already broken in windy weather.

Had another lazy day - to be honest I'm still wiped out from crawling around on the floor re-stacking, listing and getting back in cupboards all the cans and jars mum pulled out. I've done a little more sewing today and my arms are really aching again. I did find two lists of things done, which I'm not sure if I've already declared (staying on the same total but want to feel like I am getting somewhere). I think these are from Friday and overnight and into Saturday
23 large yoghurt pots to the bag in the shed (will be used for planting on when seedlings are bigger)
14 wedges for doing laminate flooring, a bit from a microwave shelf, dried out ss wipes (all from the tool box)
2 boxes broken down, a third repurposed to hold all the packet rice/ pasta /couscous in one place in the cupboard and not falling over/ out of cupboard
2 mugs and 2 spice jars into a space inside a cupboard, 2 more onto the spice rack to replace ones that don't get used (mum has nutmeg with 2014 on it and a bit of bloom)
1 mug filled with dried peas and water overnight to set off as pea shoots (done)
At least 3 bags each of paper and brown bin recycling (cans, jars, plastics) gone out
Also watched a couple of slob videos, hunted out the seeds I want to set off next (apparently chillies and aubergines grow really well being set off inside in February). Broad beans can be planted outside - but not sure I have any - had some really pretty ones last year). Drawn up a list of projects I want to finish off (possibly in the next week, one or two will be longer than that).
