  • Lots of money news today!

I sold my car 🥳🥳🥳 £950 which I’m pleased with, she doesn’t owe me anything 😂. I’ve treated us to Chinese and spent £25 on some bits for the bedroom that I’ve been coveting. The rest is going into the saving pots which will get me most the way to my savings mini goals.

I should get £150 back from insurance, and I’d also put aside £50 for my MOT this week. We also got £3.42 for the cds we sent off last week.

I’ve OPd £70, rounding up to get us to a round number- I’m aiming to pay £300 next month to get us up to £2000 OP, it doesn’t seem very long since we got to £1k.

So a productive morning all round!! We were supposed to be decorating but currently flumped on sofa after running round this morning. I also did parkrun which felt ok, not sure if I’d have been able to run it twice though.

Great news on selling the car - can I ask who you used (if not a local business)?
Yay to frumping, we did the same yesterday afternoon.

  • @grogged one of the Facebook car pages, nothing fancy! Also put it on eBay but just kept getting spam from it.

  • £18 something refund from old phone company- I wasn’t expecting this so rules of unexpected funds apply, rounded up to £20 and OPd 😀

  • Some progress made towards mini goals:
Total OP £3000 by end of the year - £1720 reached, happy with progress on this one
Increase emergency fund from £5300 to £6000 - done ✅
Increase house savings pot from £600 to £1000. Currently at £800

    And less financial related...
Reduce supermarket shopping and use local veg, butcher, plastic-free suppliers etc
a bit of a delayed start on this one as I’ve had good intentions for a long time. I don’t actually do the food shopping so I need to get more involved to meet this one. I felt the best way to do this was to put it in my routine so my none working day each fortnight is plastic free shop and market day. I was really pleased with the plastic free shop, she’s in a little van and travels round which I think is brilliant. Veg lady was less good, apparently Saturday market is better. Butcher was good but not particularly lower on plastic. Will see how we get on 😀

In other money news, I got a refund from car tax - £10.42. I’m going to hang on to it as need to add me to Ts breakdown cover.

Great progress on your mini goals.
I think using local and less plastic is a great idea, especially if you can easily work it into your routine so it becomes second nature.

  • Yay it’s payday!! Like many on this board, I get so excited to move money around 😂

I’ve met another one of my mini goals:

Total OP £3000 by end of the year - £1720 reached, plan to OP £330 in October
Increase emergency fund from £5300 to £6000 - done ✅
Increase house savings pot from £600 to £1000- done ✅

I will move my money over into the bigger house pot which is looking sorely depleted- we’ve carpeted little lads room, bought him a dbl bed (amazing bargain 2nd hand) and new mattress. Still need to get bedding. We’ve booked in the chimney chap in 2 weeks time to line the chimney and have bought a new woodburner. The old one may find a home in the planned shed-office one day but we wanted to upgrade to the most eco one we can, although I know they are controversial at the minute! Plotting and scheming now turns to the living room, it needs a lick of paint and rug/curtains to try to cosy it up a little.

T’s been away this week so the house has been very quiet! I’ve made an effort to see real people every evening (still working from home) so the week has flown by. Not too spendy either, treated my mum to tea at IKEA last night £13 and we had pudding 😋 off to Manchester to see my sister tonight and doing the Manchester great 10k on Sunday, wish me luck wannabes 😂

Great that you've ticked off two mini goals and your little lads bedroom.

    Thanks Grogged!
The run went really well and I loved the atmosphere, things are starting to feel more normal now and it actually made me well up on the start line.

Money wise- I had a fairly bargain filled weekend, spent less than £100 which included £18 in body shop, so I’m pleased with that. This week we’ve  been plotting a few trips and things- booked a few nights in Northumberland near family,  entered the ballot for Birmingham commonwealth games tickets and I think another 10k race on the cards so that’s a few more spends than most of this year!

This month OPd regular £250 + £80 to bring me to £2050 so far this year. Still on track for £3000. My original goal was £10k this year but that was always going to be a stretch and I had seriously underestimated how much we would spend on the move and sorting out house things. Some were expected but we’ve spent at least £3500 on things that weren’t on the original list. I think it’s going to be a perpetual balance between mortgage/house/living life. I don’t want any of them to disappear!

Work news- my team is going through a long overdue restructure. I’ve been on secondment for almost 5 years and the job I’m seconded to is going. I have no intention of returning to my substantive post. There is a job a grade higher which I’m pretty certain I’m going to get but it’s still an uncertainty as have to apply and be interviewed.  I’m not sure if I should apply for other jobs in the structure to be on the safe side. Even though I don’t want them. We get all the paperwork next week and officially become at risk eek. Hopefully by December I’ll be in new role earning more and doing something I love😁

not sure on plans for today but this weekend involves sorting out boy bedrooms. Hopefully it will stop raining at one point!!
