Congratulations to you both!🍾
Lovely to hear you had such a great day and honeymoon. If it's not adding up, compound it!2 -
It’s been a while since I did a money update. August has been cheap since we got home from honeymoon, I think we are both being homebodies for a while 😂
My only unplanned spends have been a charity donation for a friend and £8 on an audio book- winning! Less winning is that my car hasn’t sold so I’ve had to renew the insurance, we managed to save against the renewal price and I’ve managed to pay my share without resorting to touching credit card or savings- get in! I’ve now got £2 something to last until pay day- plus maybe £15 in cash? 😬
joint account is slightly healthier, £140 left after everything has come out so just needs to cover food. Our current mission is to decorate youngest lads room (house money is separate) and also get on top of the weeding. We go away at the end of the month so will stay low spend until then.Overpayments- £250 which is our basic standing order amount. I’ve not topped it up this month due to wedding/holiday/car insurance all due at once- that’s plenty to be working at! Planning to Chuck more at it from September but need to balance that with the house pot- which currently stands at £2200 but Is earmarked for several different projects depending on our moods! We’ve also been very spoilt and have had some wedding money towards the garden and a very generous gift to cover our en suite 😍

I’ve realised that my incremental pay rise has come through! That puts me at the top of my salary scale and gives me about £60 extra a month. In the past I’ve split it between a regular charity donation and an overpayment of some kind. I can’t remember what I did last year!I’ve set up a dd of £15 to a charity that I’ve been following on social media but don’t currently support.I’m planning on sneaking a little on my student loan overpayment (currently £25pm, I know it’s not a money saving thing to do but £5 extra would mean it’s gone 3 months earlier and I won’t notice it!). Might stick rest on AVC 🤔
I also did a job this morning, sorted out my tax code to take into account the work from home discount- that’s another £5 a month to me!MFW 2021 #76 £5,145

Good steady MSE progress being made and nice to see others also benefiting.
Sounds like you also have a few plans for the house, so moving forward on all fronts! If it's not adding up, compound it!2 -
Quick money update, had a brill time on a holiday, gorgeous weather and a campsite with a sea view! Some friends were camping nearby so we did lots of free stuff with them- boys highlight was jumping off a big rock into the sea 😂 Camping was £231 for the week and we’ve spent around £800 all told. Bargain! As we were under budget, I’ve snuck £50 from my account and £50 joint account as OPs. Plans for the next few weeks are youngests bedroom and I’m going to MOT my car in the hopes of actually getting it sold.MFW 2021 #76 £5,145

Glad you had a great holiday, and MSE to boot.
Fingers crossed on the car.
I think we're going to sell our second one as I'm now a home worker and we no longer need two.If it's not adding up, compound it!2 -
@Grogged - that’s my reasoning too. Even though I worked within walking distance of the office, I frequently went to meetings around the county which I’m expecting will all stay online now.MFW 2021 #76 £5,145

Some goal setting this morning:
Total OP £3000 by end of the year
Increase emergency fund from £5300 to £6000
Increase house savings pot from £600 to £1000
And less financial related...
Reduce supermarket shopping and use local veg, butcher, plastic-free suppliers

A bank holiday full of pottering before heading to a wedding tonight.
2 money saving things:
switched my sim only deal. I was paying an extortionate £22pm, switched to £6 with the same amount of data 🤔
T and I sat and scanned a box of cds and DVD’s that were in storage- £6.20 for 16 items and then the rejects went to another app, 53 items gave us £5.50. Not sure what to do with the double rejects... I don’t think charity shops particularly want themMFW 2021 #76 £5,145

You might want to hang on to the double rejects if you've got room. Just because they don't want them now, doesn't mean they won't want them in the future. I've got a box stashed away that I run the barcodes through every now and then, and it's surprising how sometimes there will be an offer for an item that's been rejected dozens of times before!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)
