Couldn't get any indication of the 'special tariff'.

  • From experience with another failed company (Breeze in Dec 2019) the appointed administrators of YE (whoever they are) will now begin (or have begun) the process of determining what the assets and liabilities of YE are (i.e customer credits and debits) after final bills have been raised.  I think that this will only be fully complete once the 77K former YE customers have been migrated onto SP after the opening reads have been verified by what the industry refers to as the 'back-end' .  I put today's numbers in and used the SP link to set the ball rolling.  I also believe that there is no short-cut in the meter read verification process (through 2 different systems/databases - one for gas and a different one for electricity) which is why the process takes longer than it probably should.  The migration over to SP should theoretically take no longer than an ordinary switch and there is a case for waiving the cooling off period because we had no choice in this transfer to SP.

What I find amusing is that when you are being transferred through SOLR, the 14 day cool off period does not apply.  Therefore, maybe in my niavity, the transfer to SP should be instantanously.

"14 day cooling off period before switched to SoLR - This means you don't have a supplier for those 2 weeks, meaning there's no one buying energy for you and technically you should get disconnected during this time. (You'll be off-grid for 2 weeks by not having a supplier). And no.... you shouldn't get 2 weeks of free energy for being with a supplier that went bust, you aren't the victim here, the staff who lost their jobs are."
Obviously would not get 2 weeks "free energy" whoever you take your supply to should get be paid the  two weeks energy payment
As someone said earlier there should be no need for a two week cooling off period when your previous company went bust
Pretty sure if OFGEM had any teeth it could be quite easy to sort out  without it dragging on weeks, or months, same with getting any credit you have why does that take so long it's all skewed in favour of suppliers
The whole energy market wants a big shake up
Why oh why did OFGEM SoLR us to SE when anyone can see they are still having problems sorting out the Tonic refugees
A switch after a company goes bust should be down to the customers not OFGEM sticking you with a company that's very poor at CS
Give the customer the right to pick their supplier in a timely manor if 14 days is too long then 7 days there should be no cooling off period when you are forced to use a company
Having said all that seems a Tonik refugee who was SoLR'd seems to have got free energy
    See the Tonik thread

"Great news (at least for me) I have now been totally set free from SP as I have now received a refund of all my energy charges whilst with SP between 10/10 and 27/11 as a gesture of goodwill. Hope the battles everyone else are having sort themselves out. Thanks for all your comments etc "

BedrockFred - the Tonik refugee you quote is me!!! I kicked up a fuss through their complaints and CEO with detailed info on the incompetence of their customer services. They offered £40, I said no. They asked what was I looking for - I said free energy until I switch. They said OK

    Good for you, well done

Agreed the transfer of provider is immediate (we are now SP's customer) but the problem  is due to the 'industry meter read verification processes' for the 2 fuels as they run on different systems rather than a unified one.  And our accounts have not been finalised with validated meter reads, account numbers etc etc.   Even without the normal cooling off 14 day period, this validation can take 1-2 weeks (sometimes more) for the industry systems/databases that handle the meter reads.  Normally, with a conventional transfer,  we are able to pull the plug before the account is set up with these validated opening meter reads.  As things stand, our individual meter reads need to be validated before the administrator of YE is in a position to work out out who owes what to whom before they are in any kind of position to even think about refunds on credit balances due.  So until SP have validated opening meter reads we are all stuck in limbo - we are their customer and that is all they (SP) know ATM.

I am not expecting to be able to initiate an unrejected  transfer to a provider of my choice until early January at best.  The last time for me I was finally able to initiate an unrejected switch process away from British Gas (the SOLR for the bust Breeze) some
32 days after seeing the Ofgem notification.  So I am anticipating the same snail-like pace of progress and having less electric showers in the meantime  :s

What will be very useful is hearing from folk who have an unrejected transfer in the following weeks to come.  It took Yorkshire Energy 3 goes before I was able to get away from BG earlier this year. :)   Patience is the key.

As a matter of interest, what does the meter read validator already know? I assume they must routinely get details of usage for every meter in the country, otherwise they will know nothing at all about households which have never switched suppliers.

They have a record of the previous meter reads. They are not just used when switching suppliers.

Spoke to SP yesterday (after a 25 minute wait!), they were insistant that any refunds will come from YE and not SP. don't see how that can happen if YE are in admin. Surely the administraters will deal with that.
Last time this happened to me it took around 7 months to finalise and I had to go through the ombudsman to resolve issues, so I don't expect anything soon. I have told SP that I do not wish to have them as my supplier, due to previous experiences. I have to wait for a final bill before I can move. Couldn't get any indication of the 'special tariff'. Have cancelled my DD with YE, as this would give them over £400 of my money. SP said I shouldn't have done that because any refunds would be sent by bank transfer and they needed the bank details!!
I mean, that's a complete contradiction to what their email and website said... they said the credit would be transferred to SP. I cancelled my DD on the same basis, there was more than enough credit to cover any final bill, and any left over should be transferred to SP... now they are saying they will send it via bank transfer? I can see this has all been organised so well...
