  • I understand that Green and Avro have ceased trading this afternoon. Just received email from Green five minutes ago confirming.
  • So here we go again, back into the clutches of the Big 5. What a shambles, but just typical of privatisation - a great idea in principle, but failed in every industry it has been applied in. I saw a quote that at the beginning of this year there were 70 electricity companies - they are now forecasting just 10 at the end of the year.
  • I hope zog hang on. I have my gas with them. Iirc a lot of us went with zog. I moved electricity to PFP.
  • Same here. Theoretically Fixed, but who knows?

Green are livid, and have been pretty vocal about the Government, and Kwasi in particular.

The switching companies are not entirely blameless in this, encouraging people and being paid commission. 'It's so easy, and you'll save hundreds. You'll never sleep at night again, and be on a permanent switching treadmill, but hey...'

I was looking around the other day, and came across a switching company that turned out to be Scottish Power masquerading as a switching company. In the small print there was an option saying 'Click here if you don't want SP to ring you up.' I clicked, but they rang me anyway. They got short shrift.

See what Martin has to say tomorrow (Thurs) night.

Anyone looking at a double-bust supplier within the space of 12 months? Imagine a fair few YE customers went for the next cheapest on comparison sites when everything hit the fan last time :/
Unfortunately so, looks like pure planet are going under. I thought I had done the considered thing by not picking the absolute cheapest and a company that had been on the block at least 5 years but still getting a good price.
News broke yesterday to say it looked likely to happen  and they have now fallen silent on social media to the people asking if they are going to go bust, it’s basically happening…I’m past that now even though it’s not yet official…champing at the bit to know who the SOLR is. Can’t switch, got exit fees.
Does anyone who this has happened to in the past month already know what sort of tariff to expect to go on?
It’s usually variable isn’t it so is that gonna be at the cap or something extortionately more given the circumstances?

It will be variable, at the cap and with zero exit fees (so if you find somewhere better, you can switch). The challenge will be finding somewhere better as most of the fixes currently on offer are 20% or more above the cap

Thank you, this gives me some comfort at least. Upon reading about pure planet last night I did a comparison and the first tariff that came up that wasn’t an unknown company that would likely fold was £700 more a year. I’m not daft by any extreme, have listened to everything martin has said of late and crossed my fingers even though it seemed a bit inevitable. A month ago a comparison was only £200 a year more, this is escalating so fast.

  • @scrimpandsave I did see that myself about Pure Planet yesterday, even though they are allied with BP. However there is nothing in the daily OFGEM bulletin that I have just received. It might not happen.

I can tell you what the Shell SOLR deal is, if you really want a guideline, but it might not happen. If it does, it will depend on who the SOLR is. One thing for sure, it’s a mess.
  • Nearly went with Avro back when it happened with YE, they got taken by octopus I think? They have always seemed quite good, want to avoid bg truthfully…it’s just preference really and based on the experiences of people I know. Didn’t know they did a bulletin? It looks bleaks so if you’re happy to share go for it 🙂
