I'm surprised by the comments from a few on here who suggest they will stick with Scottish Power as it's not worth the bother of switching away!

From my brief experience of Scottish Power, I'd still switch away even if it was to a more expensive provider - they are the most incompetent energy provider I've had the misfortune to come across. Luckily I escape them tomorrow.

We were all spoiled with Yorkshire Energy - who were excellent in my opinion, but surely nobody else can be as bad as SP!

I get a different projection on the comparison sites to what SP expect my annual bill to be. I can't download my bill so I have no idea what usage they are projecting. The bill can't be right for the dates. Does anyone know how soon they will review our direct debit? I'm worried they will hike mine stupidly high.
SP have said your first DD will be the same as your YE DD was. If an SP "bill" is now appearing in your online account, you'll be able to download the "pdf" soon, it took a couple of days before I could download mine due to the abysmal clunky "My Account" software updating things. Also bear in mind you'll probably be a DD behind, as SP have been slow getting accounts set up. I would imagine the DD won't get amended in a hurry anyway until they can see how your usage at SP rates compares to the DD. You also have an option of making an additional payment if you know your not in credit.
You will get a different projection from comparison sites because you give it your estimated annual usage, and it makes a number of assumptions as well. Only use the "savings" as a guide for the deals to look at. Do your own calculations based on Unit Rates and Daily Charge.

As regards switching, there seems little point for me. The cheapest is eon, saves 55 quid a year compared to sp,  but that's with smart meters that I don't want. Next is avro at 28 quid per year saving. Just not worth the agro until my sp account is fully up and working and I have my ye credit back.
As has just been said for the reasons given, don't just go by those so say "projected savings". Do your own calculations.

Unless you enter your previous 12 months usage into a comparison site, then it's just going to be a guess. Not that you next years usage is going to be exactly the same as the previous year, but it's the closest you'll get.
For electricity just find 2 meter reads 12 months apart, for gas it's harder as the gas meter doesn't count units.

I thought I was. Obviously some winters are colder than others but the usage I put into comparison sites was similar to what YE predicted on their bills, and other providers I've had over the last few years.

I'll see if SP put any projection on the bill. Using the website rather than the app suggests they only billed me for electricity. Maybe they still don't have my opening gas read. I can't tell because I can only see the reading I gave them, and no history of readings. I was spoiled by YE, they gave me information 🤣
I have kept aside the December and January direct debit money so not too worried, I just get a general feeling that they don't know what they're doing any more than I do.
  • Wonders never cease - Scottish Power have now updated my account today at some point with the electric meter details (but no readings) to go with the gas (showing both meter details and a correct opening read).  Only taken them 30 days since I first saw my account with gas only details!  Possibly I may ring them up before Wednesday to check that they do have my opening read - you know the one provided to them (at their request) in early December!

First they lost my opening gas reading, then they lost my gas account.
I have no idea what they are going to bill me for.

Have you not given them to SP again? >:)

I can see my bill now, and my actual electricity use over the last 12 months is higher than previous years which makes sense with us both working from home. It says actual, so I presume they are getting it from somewhere official. No mention of gas though!

It's good that SP didn't get the customers from GNE or simplicity!
  • I contacted SP to give them my final electricity reading as they asked for it but I couldn't find anywhere to enter it. When they got back to me, they asked for my opening electricity reading which I'd already provided when they first asked back in December. Luckily I kept the photo of the meter that I took but some people may have just looked at the readings and submitted them online so will have no record.
  • If SP can manage my final bill last week with opening meter readings, not so different to those given to YE early December, how come I'm still missing a final bill from YE? Silly me, administrators dragging it out to inflate their fees!
