Stuart42 said:I had the Tariff Information email from SP this morning. In it, it says "If you fail to make a payment when it's due, we can make changes to your payment method and/or tariff, which may result in an increase in your prices".The email also tells me that my first DD will be on 7/2. BUT I will be switching away from SP on 27/1.Does anyone know if I will be OK to cancel my DD to SP as soon as I have switched away (so they won't get a first payment) or could that allow them to put me on a more expensive tariff for the enforced time with them?1

Richmc said:If you cancel the DD they can't take your final payment and could block the switch, I would wait till you have a definite confirmation that the switch has happened first.Thanks. I'm guessing that the switch on 27/1 will be on the national database before the DD is due 7/2. But my question was that if they can't take a first payment then are they likely to stick me on a higher tariff for the 7 weeks or so I was with them?

Even though I have my new tariff with Scottish Power, I don't think the account is fully setup yet (I don't have login details, but I do have an account number). Will I be OK to start switching procedures now, or is it better to wait? I have about £70 from my YE account in credit, so I want to make sure I get that back first before potentially making things even more convoluted later...
You can start a switch now, plenty of people have, and some are already under their new provider. SP can't do anything with YE credit balances until YE have generated final bills. I don't think this has happened for anyone yet. Once the YE final bills are sorted, they have to notify SP of the balances, and then SP have to process them and apply them to accounts. That could all take a significant amount of time.
If you've already switched away from SP when they process YE credits, they have said they will pay it by cheque. That may make things slightly more convoluted, and may need chasing depending on how long you're prepared to wait.
Thanks, I was just about to start the switch BUT in the literal hour since this reply, Green Energy has pulled their tariff! I entered my details, pressed submit and an error occurred. I check again.. The quote is gone! Ah well, eon thankfully had a quote at the same price, so I guess I'm going with them this time. Adios Scottish Power!

I received what I think constitutes my Welcome Pack today, though it was just an email and tariff attachment. Tariff confirms what I had already deduced and in my case (approx £1k each for Elec and Gas) not much more than my YE Green Yorkshire tariff. SP had missed out one digit (2777 rather than 27771) on my predicted gas consumption so their annual estimate was a bit low! I thought I'd seen reference on here to the deemed tariff being guaranteed for 6 months, but saw no reference in my pack today. Was I dreaming?0

For obvious reasons, I'd much rather owe them money than them owe me money.

Elec:
Unit rate 17.486 pkwh - a 25% increase!
Std charge 19.90 p/day - 18.3% increase
Absolutely ridiculous. If they can 'buy' their customers then why are they not bound to honor the contracts we had with YE? I bet their sure to honor any debt we owe them on our bills or can we decide what % we want that reduced by?
It is a good bet that the prices YE that were charging were not sustainable - hence them calling in the receivers.
Why would SOLR want to charge prices that killed off a previous company?
Even with the extra SP are charging me until 22 Jan, I have been quids in with YE, as I have with the other providers I have used in the past. There is always a chance of this happening and you have to factor in this hassle when deciding to move to a much cheaper company.

https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/system/files/docs/2017/09/solr_revised_guidance_final_21-10-2016.pdf2.21. Once appointed, a SoLR will be able to charge the failed supplier’s customers on the basis of its deemed contract rate. This will cover the period from appointment until customers have agreed a replacement contract rate with the SoLR or another supplier of their choice, or the six month period of SoLR appointment expires, whichever is earlier. We will consider the SoLR deemed contract prices in terms of what is best overall for the customer groups involved. So unless SP ignore the above, I'd say there is good reason to think that SP should maintain the Energy Exclusive Tariff until the 6 monhs are up for those that want it. But I am more than happy to be corrected by more knowledgable folk than I

but more seriously it was probably a misunderstood quote from another poster. Ring SP if you really want to check.
Edit: but also see previous post to mine, but in any case I wouldn't necessarily believe what you get told on the phone - it seems it can very much depend on who you get to speak to, some are more helpful (and informed) than others!
