It is not necessary to have an active direct debit to make a bank transfer. Millions of faster payments are made every day without the need for a direct debit. The reason they couldn't have paid it back is because they went into administration, and the administrators will not make a distribution to any creditor during the first 6 weeks of their appointment.Verdigris said:The final bill was only generated on the last day of YE trading. As I'd pre-emptively cancelled the DD, they couldn't have paid it back even if they wanted to. Kicking myself about the DD now, of course, but on the other hand I'm glad SP haven't got my bank details without my say so. I wouldn't mind the inconvenience of a cheque to keep my details out of their hands.

My supplier is now showing as SP so I tried to switch to Octopus. They are getting a message that I have switched suppliers in the last 28 days so cannot initiate it. How are others managing to switch?0

You will have to hassle Octopus. There is no 28 days, however if it's less than 11 days since SP registered themselves as your supplier, that will generally stop your new supplier from an Advanced registration, then there's a 14 day cooling off period which some suppliers are willing to waive. Talk to Octopus.Clairabella said:My supplier is now showing as SP so I tried to switch to Octopus. They are getting a message that I have switched suppliers in the last 28 days so cannot initiate it. My SP account which previously had the message we are sorry to see your electricity go and something about my remaining fuel type - this has now been replaced by a message saying 'we are sorry to see you go'. So they have obviously now received applications for transfer of both electricity and gas, and - this is the interesting bit - the direct debit box has vanished. Now I was expecting a direct debit to be taken on Jan 26th when I will still be their customer, with a bill for the balance to follow after I have left. I am now wondering whether this will happen, or will I will just receive a bill for the whole of the time I have been with them after I leave, which will be at the beginning of February?0

After all the trouble I've had with transposed meter readings, I've started the move away today from SP to Outfox where I'll be paying a single rate for leccy. The savings for E7 weren't that great for me that I could find, we only use 25% overnight and that's with me waiting to put the dishwasher and washing machine on overnight to get the lower rate. Was tempted by slightly lower bills by Avro, but the website took an age to load, then didn't recognise the SP tarriff from its own dropdown list and they wanted me to call them. Decided they looked like more trouble than the savings were worth.I've put meter readings in today for SP, including a reading in the gas where like others I had the mysterious 1902 date. It said the reading was a bit high, but it took it.Am I alone in finding that rates I was quoted last week are higher now?Make £2025 in 2025

No, fixed rates have been creeping up for the last month or so..... Typical as we're all looking to swich......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Hopefully they'll head lower again in the not too distant future so I went for a fixed rate with zero exit fees - it may not have been the absolutely cheapest option for me, but it leaves me free to change without cost.GunJack said:No, fixed rates have been creeping up for the last month or so..... As for OFTM I was with them before YE and they were a nightmare re billing and altering DD's at a whim hopefully they have changed0 -
I suspect the block was removed for the first wave of SP switches that completed around 30th December. As Phones4Chris says, Octopus should be able to navigate this if you contact them and explain the situation. They should be able to reapply in a few days and it need not affect the switch date.Clairabella said:My supplier is now showing as SP so I tried to switch to Octopus.
