If the government gets its way
We will not  be able to afford a new electric car -  so no more private motoring for 50% of the UK population.....
It was fun whilst it lasted wasn't it?

Are you sure of your 50% figure
  • They will be as affordable as petrol/diesel cars are now. Used cars will be around for 10 to 15 years there after.

ICE vehicles are not being banned  There will still be vast numbers of second hand ICE vehicles available for purchase for many years after 2030.  Also, by then electric cars will have dropped in price.

Petrols going to get more and more expensive over time anyway as supplies get harder.
Electric vehicles will become cheaper for most people after some point.

No-one is getting priced off the roads. Remember that in another 10 years there will be 15+ year old EV's on the market for sub £1000 with plenty of usable range.

Electric cars are the future, even if fossil cars don't get banned noone will buy them anyway. Get used to it :)

The National Grid say there isn't a problem.
    https://www.nationalgrid.com/stories/journey-to-net-zero/5-myths-about-electric-vehicles-busted

Last month, just over 10% of new vehicles sold in the UK were plug-in electric. BEV outsold PHEV 2:1. Diesel was down 40% year-on-year. The total number of registrations was down 4.5%.

In ten years time, there will be no new non-plugin cars on the UK market. In fifteen, there will be no new PHEVs either. But the average age of a car at scrapping in the UK is nearly 14yrs.

Also, very few people buy new cars outright. Mostly, they finance them. The gap in cost on financing is FAR smaller. Let's take a car that's available as both a decent-range BEV and ICE...

Rolls Royce are pushing to make compact nuclear power stations, their reactor division need something to do when the Astute class are finished, plus the aero engines are likely going into decline ;)
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
