Is there anything in these 28 pages that has changed what you're looking at? Did you book viewings on the slightly overpriced one I suggested, or others anyone else have suggested? If not, why not?
A few of the suggestions have been out of the area. I understand that and need to decide if im willing to do it.
Was it you who suggested the detached with the wood panelling that needed work? Yes ive had a reply they said the vendor is open to offers but there is a coal mine entry near the property (its a mining area so thats expected). They didnt say if anyone has had a mortgage refused because of it. I need to decide if im going to view it, id be taking on alot of work with that one and i dont know if i would regret it down the line.
Even if they won't accept a low offer now, if it doesn't sell, you can jump straight in with an offer as you'll have already seen it (if you like it).
I don't accept that the stairs being in the lounge is a dealbreaker as they're behind the sofa and not stuck in the middle of the room or anything. There are also likely to be ways round it anyway if it is a problem. There's also a little lobby/porch area inside, so you don't literally walk straight into the lounge.MFW 2025 #50: £1989.73/£600007/03/25: Mortgage: £67,000.00

danlightbulb said:I think what people may be missing is my high level of isolation that i feel. Alot of people with lots of equity will move to a pretty village to seek out a 'local pub' and a sense of community. Im just wanting the same where I live, but that's no good if im several miles away. Yeah, I can drive to the pub, I can have a taxi, but im never going to be close enough to feel close and connected. Its difficult to explain that feeling. Many years back, people would have lived, worked and socialised within a couple of miles area at most and because I live alone, I find myself desiring a similar thing.
Im very sentimental/nostalgic type of person.
To be fair, I do understand that feeling of isolation. If I was buying by myself, I would rather stay in an area I know and am familiar with. I'm beginning to think that location is the most important aspect to you? I'm also assuming DY4 ticks all of the boxes you mentioned re. location? So close to friends/family, good amenities like a local pub, and on the public transport route? If this is the case, there is nothing wrong with wanting to stay in this location. You can always modify a house to suit your liking after buying, but you can never modify the location.
If you're set on this location, then you may have a long wait to find a house which matches your other criteria. It might be worth just making sure the type of house you want actually exists in this area? E.g a house with a flat drive, garage/outhouse for the budget you've mentioned. This sounds ridiculous, but myself and my partner were hoping to find a particular type of house in a this one village. We wanted a flat drive and all of the ones we found were sloped - that's actually because the whole village is built on a massive hill! We realised that was unlikely to be possible, so went for other areas. An other alternative is to compromise, as others mentioned.
My best advice is to just go view as many houses as you can. You are not committing to anything by viewing a house, you are just getting a feel for the place. This also makes you more knowledgeable on the housing market in the area as you start to learn what the going rate is. Don't dismiss a house based on the online advert. You can also view the houses that are above your budget but make a lower offer. I'm assuming you don't have a chain? This will give you an advantage when making offers.5 -
Just called up about the detached that needs updating. The mineshaft is on the boundary of the property at the rear, so they say the mortgage companies will definitely want 30%+ deposit, and they won't let me view it.0

Hobby/office room upstairs would keep the living space for living, having people round for socials.
Would make those places top heavy with integral garage more balanced.
He wants it on show so he and visitors can see it (and admire it I suppose).
Which I guess rules out a music room at the bottom of the garden too...
Playing the piano is my main hobby. I think if you ask any piano player, having it upstairs (or god forbid in a wooden garden shed as suggested!) is the last thing any of them would be happy with. Its not about having it on show (I don't host visitors, ever), its a case of a) out of sight out of mind and b) having a deep enjoyment of such a lovely thing. Its a serious hobby of mine that is rare these days, that I've invested a lot of time and money in as an adult learner, and suggesting I make do with it in a tiny upstairs bedroom is pretty ridiculous really. Do none of you have something that is important to you, that you'd want to give a special place to in your home? Just because its a piano, not a, much more common, kid or a dog, means its worth less in your eyes.Actually no - probably more of my friends have musical instruments than don't (unsurprising really as playing music is a big part of my social life) and a lot of them own pianos. The pianos are upstairs, downstairs, in flats and houses, in music rooms, offices, basements and bedrooms; even student rooms back when we were students. It's important, and part of everyday life, so a place is found for it even if that involves getting it in through the upstairs window. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Ive called about Nightingale Drive and Dixon Close. Nightingale drive currently has a tenant so they are going to arrange me a viewing slot. Dixon Close the agent already has the all of the first set of viewing slots booked in and they are waiting to see if the owner releases more viewing slots (presumably this will be subject to any offers coming in from the first round).
