Yes, Antomac,  Hetty is quite right. we use smaller bottles inverted over the canes or sometimes yogurt pots for eye safety.  Bigger bottles also rattle in the wind and scare off birds which might gobble up the tasty new growth

Excellent potting!! 🤗 Fingers crossed the 30th of October will see a larger amount in your pot  than you think, if not, try to up it next year if it's possible, but whatever you end up with, it's a darned sight better than not having saved at all! 😉

I always thought cut off bottles were to keep the birds away. Don't worry Ant, it's nowt to do with not having common sense, either you know things or you don't, which is why common sense tells us to ask!

Indeed it is Ant, indeed it is!

Well, to say I am excited would be an understatement.  I've just had an email to say that £50 will be paid into my bank account within the next couple of weeks.  It's from the surveys I've completed for Populuslive over the last 6 months or so.  It will give my SPC total a fabulous boost! At last! Yay!!

Have a brilliant day everyone.  I'm just off to the allotment with G.  DD and the grandchildren will be joining us later to help gather in the produce.  There are loads of potatoes to be dug up so our grandson can do that.  At the age of 14 he's much stronger than me!  We've also got runner beans, peas and sweetcorn to pick.  We've never grown corn before but DD will know whether or not it's ready to pick because she buys it from the supermarket and knows what to look for.  There might even be a few raspberries    I'm taking drinks (hot and cold) and we can buy some chips for lunch and make it an adventure.  It will be the most fun I've had in 18 months .....lol....

BTW G rang the GP for an appointment and has been granted a telephone consultation on 18th August.  The wait is countrywide it seems....

I have been granted a telephone appointment on 10th August at some point between 8 and 11am.  They couldn’t have picked a worse day in the whole year if they tried!  It’s A level results day and as I work in university admissions I’m supposed to be triaging clearing phone calls all day.  Ah well they will have to cope without me for a bit; after a 5 week wait I’m not saying no.

That really is fantastic news, little_sweetie!!!!! 😳 🤗 ☺️ I'm so very thrilled for you, and hasn't it come at the very best of times too!! 

I hope you had a super day with G, Z and the grandchildren, why not help them strengthen their muscles! 💪 I hope your sweetcorn was ready, but down here it'll still be a while yet. Ah, but T says, there might just be earlier varieties grown nowadays. 

Not you and G hit by the "don't let anyone come near us" GPs too, A. I'm sure your right about it being nationwide, it makes you wonder if it'll ever get back to normal! What a time to have to wait too for it!! I don't care what they say, telephone appointments don't show the patients actions when describing pain etc; body language counts a lot when describing symptoms. Drs are supposed to look out for signs and symptoms - puh! 😩

I've been messed about awful by our Drs re the epilepsy lately, it's taken 3 months to get an appointment with a Neuro surgeon, but last Thursday I had a phone call from the hospital to say they had an appointment free with the yesterday!! She (never had a female one before!) was truly brilliant, and at last someone's listening!! The seizures have been quite rough during the last 4 years, so after me having to tell her the entire history of them (computer was up the creek) and T having to explain exactly what goes on during them  (obviously I haven't a clue), she added another AED to the the 2 I already take. So a good day for me, and no rushed appointment either....and another in 6 months time! ☺️

Not such a good day for you though, Hetty!😩 Of all the days, they really couldn't have chosen one more disruptive to you and the university! Be sure to write everything down Hetty and all the very best with it being successful!

Sue, that was fantastic news that you got a proper appointment at last and, hopefully, with a good result too.  I think you are right that GP appointments will never be the same again.  The nurse used to do all the blood tests at our surgery ( until Covid) but in March I was sent a form to take to a hospital for a blood test to check renal function. I tried to book online, checked every single day for 8 weeks and nothing came up, I rang the booking line which was either constantly engaged, I was in a queue of up to 8 and got cut off at the head of the queue, or it was so busy an automated message asked me to call back later.  After 4 months I gave up completely.  What is the point.....

Hey everyone, not been around for a while (doesn't seem like long but time continues to pass by at an alarming rate!).  I've had a scan through the messages since my last post, sending love to all those who need a hug.

I haven't done much potting although I've had a couple of £2 coins recently so they went in the pot, and I put some loose change in our savings bottle, but then I had a large car bill so had to withdraw some money from my Plum account to help pay for that - partly my own fault, as I wanted the air-con repairing not least because of the heat we've just had (I had it re-gassed in the Spring, which was the first time I'd had it done since getting the car, but it leaked out) and the condenser it needed was £225.  I also had the MOT done (passed - yay!) and a small service.  It barely moves now I'm mainly working from home and is running OK so I didn't feel the need for a full service, just the oil and filters.  There are tiny pin holes in the exhaust which will eventually get worse so it's a bit noisy but not in need of changing just yet.  It was nice to have that financial cushion though, and it will mount back up.

@Hettyhound I also work for a University and will be doing Clearing all day next Tuesday on campus and then from home on Wednesday morning.  I don't work in Admissions, I just volunteer and have done this is my 6th year doing it.  I'm also working on the Clearing Open Day on the following Saturday, which I haven't done before.

I feel everyone's pain on the whole 'getting a GP appointment' thing.  There's one particular receptionist who is really in the wrong job at our surgery.  That being said, the last twice I've had to phone for a triage/call-back appointment, I've been given one but only after spending 20 minutes on the phone working my way up the queue.  Today I had to go for blood tests and to hand in some samples and got lectured by one of the receptionists about the samples I was handing in, that they had to be in before a certain time (the bloods nurse told me I could drop them in in the afternoon) and so on, so I politely pointed out that it doesn't tell you any of that in the instructions that they supply.

I'm still working from home; colleagues on other teams have started their new hybrid working, one day a week in 'home zones' and not their original offices.  We're fortunate in that our team is staying in our original building and probably our original office but that's all we know.  There's been no further mention of which or how many days we will be doing there so we're in limbo.  We're having a team get-together next week although I'm joining late as it's after my morning Clearing shift which doesn't end till 2.15 and then I have to get to town.  It'll be the first time we've all been together although I think we've all seen different members of the team in passing.  We've been granted the afternoon off.

I went shopping with my Mum last night and we bought some bits in the M&S sale, and I was saying how I don't know whether I will wear my work clothes ever again!  If we only do 1 or 2 days on campus, am I going to dress 'properly' in work trousers or am I just going to throw on jeans and a top?  I've got 4 different lots of tops and T-shirts - gardening/decorating/dog-walking; a selection for working from home; the some that are for work and some that are for going out and 'nicer-than-work!  Some go with other items of clothing like my floaty skirts so they can't go.  I just went through them and chucked a few out that I've worn weekly over the last year, converted some that I don't wear often into nightshirts and added 1 to the stuff I'm selling on eb*y.  I didn't get to the 'work' ones but I've only worn 3 of them with any regularity in the last year.  AND I'm losing weight so there's a chance some of them are already too big!  Aarrggghhh!!!

At the beginning of July we went to a friend's wedding which was lovely, although the weather was dreadful, and then we had the week off work to go and see hubby's family who we haven't seen since November 2019 so that was nice.  Not exactly a holiday but a change of scenery and no work.

Anyway it's past my bedtime and the dog needs her bedtime constitutional - take care all x

It’s nice to see the number of posts on here picking up lately. A shame a few people having health difficulties and problems getting appointments though   Hopefully there are happier and healthier times ahead. Nice work with your fifty pounds little sweetie
