Can I return a faulty tablet after 18 months?

I'll ask again, did Apple open up the tablet to look inside when you took it there?

HT at the rugby.
Go back to Apple, ask for a report. Explain you need to show the fault was inherent [as the genius person advised]. See what you get. They will likely want you to pay for said report.1 -
If they haven't opened the tablet up and inspected, then I don't think what they have written is much to go on. You'll probably bet better finding a local repair shop and asking them for a report.Anteater23 said:
No. Sorry I thought I sent that earlier.powerful_Rogue said:I'll ask again, did Apple open up the tablet to look inside when you took it there?

Anteater - the person writing the report (whether from Apple or somewhere else) actually needs to have physically examined the device, identified a fault, and be able to say that the fault was inherent (ie present) when you bought it.Ask them to examine the device, to identify the fault, and give their opinion, for consumer legislation purposes, as to whether or not the fault would have been present when you bought it. Ask for their report to be in writing. If they can say it's a common or well known problem, all the better. [EDIT: The advantage of getting a report from Apple rather than a repair shop is that Apple made it! If they can write a report saying it was sold to you with a fault in it, it carries more weight than a report from a repair shop]Whether you paid for it and whether they are VAT registered is irrelevant. But if they do charge you for it, you can claim the cost back from Argos if the report says the fault was inherent,I suspect Argos are not being entirely straightforward with you - or perhaps you are misunderstanding them? If english is not your first language(?) they may be trying to fob you off.Remember, even if they agree to refund you, they can reduce the refund to reflect the use you have already had of it.1

Unfortunately from experience getting apple to admit a manufacturing defect in writing is almost up not unheard of.
They have a lot of history saying all sorts of things 'if it had been brought from us' knowing full well there will be no come back on them0 -
I’m not sure what you mean by physically examine? The Apple person took my iPad from me and used it for about 10 minutes, then came the conclusion that there was an internal problem that would not be repairable. I asked “so when I bought it, it was like this” and they said they believed so.Manxman_in_exile said:Anteater - the person writing the report (whether from Apple or somewhere else) actually needs to have physically examined the device, identified a fault, and be able to say that the fault was inherent (ie present) when you bought it.Ask them to examine the device, to identify the fault, and give their opinion, for consumer legislation purposes, as to whether or not the fault would have been present when you bought it. Yeah like I said on page one, it’s wishy washy. Just handling it and going ‘yeah bit dodgy innit’ is no good to you. For all Argos know, you could have used it in the shower everyday, water damage wouldn’t necessarily show as outside damage, nor would excessive heat damage, many things could have happened which would not show a smash or dent etc.Anteater23 said:

Again, I’m not trying to be obtuse but the Apple employee honestly didn’t care what he was saying to you because he was not putting his neck on the line and offering you a free fix. He could have said anything to you because it didn’t make a difference. If Apple were gonna fund the resolution I think they’d do a far more in depth analysis than a quick ten minute handle then agreeing with you that yeah it must have always been like this.In a nutshell, Argos won’t accept ‘the bloke at Apple agreed with me it must have been faulty from purchase, so you have to fix it for me’ they will want something much more precise and specific than that.1 -
Hi,I would suggest go to your local repair shop and ask someone there to look into it. The issue that you might have is apple might try and say you have voided the warranty by having it opened but if its out of warranty it won't matter. It could end up being a cheap repair that will be less expensive and less hassle than a huge battle with apple like a replacement screen or even a loose cable. What ipad is it?Thanks Rachel.0
