Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Oo that’s great news Farway.👏🏻
BIL came and power washed the flags, he has some spray he will put on tomorrow. Think it maybe similar to the spray and leave stuff talked about on here.
l have baked a cake , and now trying to decide what’s easy for tea time.
Dusty I used to be an honorary Man when on rugby trips ,as I was the only woman and it was a case of what goes on Tour stays on tour😉Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.4 -
I wonder how many honorary men and women there are out there...? I used to run the bar in a rugby club and it went down well if I was working the late shift, cos they knew the drinks would flow and the songs would be sung loudly and people could talk about whatever, and nobody was gonna go home and cry about it and then complain the next day. That seems like such a long time ago but it wasn't even a decade :O Jeez it was good fun but I bet it doesn't happen now.
I should have said 'happy International Womens' Day to all gals, those who want to be gals, those who identify as gals, and honorary gals in general'
There was no puff left in the breeze by the time it got up to you yesterday pp cos I had it all here. Gawd it was cold and windy. I didn't see any wee snowbirds but they wouldn't have surprised me.
Woo Hoo for your trees Farway :clapping: And woo hoo for the council/highways dept too. My birthday secateurs are something a bit swish I think, they came in a box AND a bag (oooOOOooo), but the wee turquoise-coloured snips in my handbag are for ..environmental tidying... *ahem* I need to start making them earn their keep actually, they've been idle all these last months.
I might try again with marigolds.... I had a few last year but they were just too tempting to all and sundry as soon as they flowered
I would love some borage though, I think they're such a pretty plant.
OT back to cloudy today after all the sunshine yesterday. Still a biting breeze but dry with it so I must do gardening today. It's all looking a bit forlorn out there.Honi swanky malyponze. Or something.6 -

I'm not going with all this 'identifying' stuff, unless I'm allowed to identify as a slim, virile, 5' 10" 30 year-old!
Thinking about it, I'd actually settle for me, aged about 24, because then I could go back and correct all the mistakes.
. Yesterday, the drunks made some mistakes, mainly with the temperature, which never got anywhere near 10c in that biting wind. Because of it, we settled for walking in Forestry Commission woodland, where the paths were (mostly!) dry and the wind speed cut by the conifers.Thinking of Farway's (obviously not bankrupt!) council planting public spaces for the future, we saw plenty evidence of that, not only in the estate woodland that long pre-dates the Forestry Commission, but also in the commemoration of their first planting 105ish years ago. There's a broad avenue cut through that first woodland, now flanked by deciduous trees, and in 30 years or so it will be most impressive.
The picture above is looking back towards the entrance, about halfway along, and the track continues to rise. Sadly, it then just peters out into the woodland rides used for maintenance, stopping under 100m short of what would be a great view.
A missed opportunity, but something maybe possible when those telegraph poles are fully grown. There's a plaque....
.....but I'd rather have a view!
The drunks are giving us heavy rain today, so I'll be happy if thy're wrong again!

Blanket cloud, chilly around 6c but light rain, light wind and not freezing so feels more like spring.I mowed both lawns, moved some Dutch Iris bulbs planted in error and transplanted a couple of lavenders yesterday. My Hidcote is suffering from the wet. I didn't have the energy to get down into the sub soil so it's just fingers crossed.Seems they aren't the bees knees in the local garden centre where I bought them little as a group.Keeping this weeks walk in Devon to heart as it was glorious sun - but someone was bored waiting for his master to come out of the surf

Also my neighbours daffs are a lovely site in the morning - huge, never get blown down, never get eaten, every year perfect and she does nothing.
No gardening today, eye test, shopping, photo shop and quiz. Tomorrow maybe - seems the drunkards are out cold and 'experiencing problems' with my weather forcast. Beeb shows more rain then sunny spells but it will be too wet out there to get on.So household nonsense (it is pilling up) ready for the good weather.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Bloody Butcher toms & pot marigolds sown.
I'll be MIA tomorrow, over to DDs, but will at least be able to check on the Purple Haze apple I planted there the other weekHow annoying about the neighbours daffs 2p, perhaps you can sneak out at night and give them a whacking?
Oh, and Devil calling again, T & M have lavender plugs on offer until midnight 10th. £3.99 for 24 plugs + P & Phttps://www.thompson-morgan.com/p/lavender-duo/T44635TM?source=newsletter-hidcote-080324&acq_source=
Numerus non sum6 -
You're a star Farway! I have a LOT of empty space, so the 72 plugs for £9.99 might be just what I need. Even if only 50% of them survive it'd help. (I also added some veg seeds to the order... but I needed them
)
I'm doing no-dig to start my veg plot off. Today I got two asparagus beds built (cardboard, random bits of wood for edging held in place by bricks, half the mature compost heap in each one) and 15 crowns planted. There's a cardboard and woodchip path between the two mostly because I have a LOT of woodchip.
I've also planted hellebores liberated from my mum's garden, and have a box of wildflowers to plant tomorrow.
Broad beans, peas, and peppers are germinating in the greenhouse. I'm hoping to fill a couple of planters near the house tomorrow and get some salad stuff sown, as well as getting a few more things going in the greenhouse.7 -
I don't know about waiting 30 years for your trees to be impressive Dusty, they look alright to me now
They look like they smell fresh and clear
Ah they're lovely daffs 2p, I wonder how she keeps them like that...? Mine are all either chomped or snapped, mostly the former
Poor dawg, do you go talk to him or wasn't he bothered?
Jeez that's a lot nonsense about the Spanish armed forces Farway. That's a committee with too much time on it's hands and nothing else to do. Virtue signalling, that's what it is. I hope the Purple Haze is happy
Sounds like you've got a lot done gb, you'll hardly have to go near a shop when that all gets going eh
Raining here, we've had plenty overnight and there's more to come. I was thinking of going to the beach cos the forecast was bright but cold and windy but I'll not if this is set in for the day. I might start hoying stuff out the loft instead.Honi swanky malyponze. Or something.3 -

It's not the conifers I was talking about, but the deciduous trees in the deer-proof 'cages.' They were only planted 5 years ago.If the money's there, and the pines have reached maturity, I think they might have plans to create views. After all, it's a bit pointless, creating a grand avenue that goes nowhere!Aerial view gives more idea:
As you can see, there are many coniferous woods in that area, but they're less favoured now, so recent planting has been mostly hardwood trees.
A warmer, brighter morning here than I was expecting. I have car maintenance to do, so off I go....

Well it looks like the beeb might be right. It's climbed up to a sultry 8c and something bright is making the outside look a lot more appealing.
Tired after a busy week so I think it's some lazing about as it's mothers day so everyone's busy. Some odd little jobs.
Wonder if it's worth cleaning windows?
I think neighbours daffs (and bedding after) are enhanced by some little blue pellets.
Dusty, that looks so much like a path near me. But it's not. Must be a forestry thing.
Hope Bluey got to the beach. Photos? Yes, I did get to pet the dog, wet dog! An absolute darling.
There's almost a sunset here.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Quiet in here today, 2p.
D'you think they're not speaking to us because we had sunshine, light winds, and it was actually warm enough to work in shirtsleeves?
We can always hope the others' absence was because they were taken for a special treat on Mothering Sunday.
