I don’t mean to curse it but thanks so much to whoever put 50p in the Oh Just Bladdy Work meter
I got shot of plenty at the tip. Think I might have done it wrong cos a couple of people took nearly everything so I wonder where it’ll turn up 🤔 (and what kinda price tag)
The rain was meant to come after lunch but it evidently got impatient and started just after I went out this morning. Least I didn’t have a wash out
That’s good news about your blackie 2p. Fingers crossed for lots of chicks 🤞🏻
Birds are all go here. I’ve never seen sparrows courting before but it’s quite comical eh! My ones ritual appears to be centred around ‘here, look at my armpit’I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.3 -
Rain stopped. Sun out. Am daff-less 😟

Aw, your poor daffs. I think you need some of those blue sweeties that Farway sprinkles around.'A watched potato will never chit'...4

I think the trick with daffs, Bluey, is to grow so many, the molluscs can't possibly eat them all. Ours in the big hedge are numbered in the thousands now, but they're barely out yet. When they are, I'll do a photo. Ironically, we cannot see them, as they're all on the lane-side. When we dig out the new entrance section, Mrs Dusty will rescue the bulbs and plant them on our side!Hope your appointment goes well today, wort. I have mixed feelings about mine. I'm struggling with jobs I could do fine last year, so I need some guidance, but I know what it's likely to be!I'd cancel the TV licence in a heartbeat, Farway, if Mrs Dusty didn't have different tastes in escapism from mine.
The reputation of pokeweed, may not be much better than that of mainstream media, but the opprobrium is less deserved, as it may be rendered harmless if treated correctly. Remember the old Elvis song, “Poke Salad Annie" ?
This is the shortest video I can find.....no, not of Elvis!Of course, because I have to go out right in the middle of the day today, the drunks say it won't rain, and we'll reach the dizzy heights of 12c. Yesterday, it never stopped drizzling.Editwort said:
Oops, I forgot this. Glad they worked. Mine are kicking about in the polytunnel, including a couple of variegated ones, which have barely grown at all. Those are fussy. I seem to recall they were all seeds from a white aquilegia, but that doesn't mean they'll all be white! As Yoda once famously said, “Promiscuous, they are!”My alyssum seeds are showing no signs 😞 but the aquilegia seeds Dusty sent last year that I put in a pot are sprouting ,woo hoo.😁🌱

I don't know what I need pp. Suspect I don't have the pennies to be buying enough blue sweeties to get rid of them all though. Research needed.
I meant to say Dusty, well done to the 93/94 year old winning the quiz :clapping:
V mild here this morning - 10', possibly. Don't know if it isn't a bit windy to put a wash on. I'll not be here if it blows away cos I'm off to Posh Friend's... It can't decide if it's for raining or what either. It'll start raining in a minute for a couple of hours and that's it (drunkards) or it's a quick shower at about 10ish and that's it (sobers) or it's rain moving in about 3ish (tusky). It's a good job these apps are freeI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5 -
What's with all the pokeweed seeds then Dusty? I D'Ducked it yesterday, and other than prettiness and/or a lack of ink in your house I wonder what you're growing so many for..? (If it's for neighbour reduction I'll have a bucketful off ya if you don't mind
)

Packet content was generous; that's all. Usually, but not always, seed numbers relate to potential viability. It is unlikely more than a fraction of the seedlings will make it to maturity, either because they're fussy, or more likely in this case, because I dispose of them. They're for my wild garden. Like my Euphorbia pasteurii, plants that need elbow room will be grown there.I've saved you the bother of Ducking the Euphorbia.........but it's lies. I got mine from John Phillps himself, and he warned me it grows way bigger than a 'medium shrub!'

I may have mentioned - my mother is a fairly impatient creature (hence why I ended up with a medlar a full year before I intended to even pick varieties of fruit tree for the garden
).
She would like a rhubarb - I have rhubarb seeds (and fully intend to wait 5 years to have an established plant! Just the same as my fruit trees). She would like a large plant, ideally that she can take a harvest from this year... any suggestions for suppliers? I've seen some in 3L pots but not sure what that translates to.
She would also like to grow it in a container - I have a large 130L one (c.70cm diameter) that I used for squash last year... would that work?I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.5 -
I was being tongue in cheek about the blue sweeties, YBE, it's not something I would use myself. Safety in numbers, like wot Dusty said, might be better, or gritty gravel around your surviving ones (if you have any)?? A lot of my daffs have been flattened by the heavy rain we had last night - not much I can do about that
Sorry, I missed the bit about the appointments, hope all goes well.
It's wet outside, but not currently raining, in fact it's fairly bright out there. Forecast is for gusts of 40mph this afternoon though, so that'll be any remaining daffs done for...'A watched potato will never chit'...4 -
It's not raining, and even a peek of sun, hope it keeps up 'cos I need to squelch to the compost dalek and empty my tea slop bucket in there.Arb, rhubarb, picking a newly planted one this year would weaken it for ages, try & keep Mum away from it.There are so many varieties, the old, tried & tested is Victoria.I am one of the rare gardeners to have killed a rhubarb
, so any suggestions from me can safely be ignored, but I would add an easy option would be go round a garden centre / and have a look, now would be good because they are not in full growth, so GC may not have upped the price just yet
Obviously larger the plant the dearerBlue, your poor old daffs, FWIW the slugs having scoffed the violas, have now started on my daffs, one now only a trumpet, nibbled the “saucer” completelyMy germinated tom seeds are now out on the window sill, I will have a forest of Rubylicious, https://justseed.com/products/attkb4578 but according to blurb it's a good blight resistant cherry. Time will tell & plenty of plants for the neighbours & DD's new garden.DGD update, the award is still unknown, except it was something about her City & Guilds Horticulture and the Lord Mayor of London. There was a cash part as well, so her horticulture is paying its way so far, last week she came second in one of the Scottish regional rounds of Young horticulturist of the year, kerching, £100
