Pas have you seen the Beechwood Garden series on BBC? There's loads of episodes on catchup. They're in your kind of area I think, if that's a help?

Your tree that looks like heather, is heather, Bluey. Doesn't look like what's called 'tree heather' to me, though.I love the inscription:I suppose it was originally for horses, (donkeys?) and dogs, but bang-on now the meaning of 'dumb' has been expropriated by our cousins over the pond. Whoever's taken it over hasn't made much of a job, though the location's no doubt as tough as Paspatur's in its own way.Yes, I'll be glad to be rid of the hedge job, but happy to see the changes we've wrought. If others had kept to their promises and the weather had cooperated, I wouldn't be so strapped for time on it. I'm cutting out parts where buds have formed now, which hurts! Lovely Moon picture too. Mine were rubbish, which is why you got the cat!Steady rain and murk predicted all day today, so I get a rest in the polytunnel.....maybe."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Aye it'd be hard to grow anything in the planter, the sand is on the pavement and I was stood on the beach to take the pic. I didn't think of it being for donkeys etc, there are donkey rides on the beach so it should have occurred to me
I'd love a wee avenue of heather trees but I think I've enough on really ha haa!
Oh and don't be searching for "Beechwood Garden" pas, try Beechgrove instead because Beechwood is a cheeseMmmm smoked cheese

YBE, yes I have watched Beechgrove Garden
Maybe all the trees they are surrounded by block the worst of the wind
A few years ago I grew cauliflowers, they were doing great and then a fierce wind whipped through the garden (in summer) and they took off like helicopters
I mostly just stick to flowers and shrubs now although courgettes grow great in my garden so I must check if I have any seeds left
And tomatoes and cucumbers in the greenhouse5 -
I love drunken monk cheese , only had it from the Christmas markets though. That and a nice onion and garlic one and Stilton with a glass of port
.Farway those trees have very evocative names let’s hope they live up to it, proper bargains too.
PP you’re right the scrubbing was a nightmare , might have to see if I can borrow a jet wash, though being on a meter always worries me about the cost, when I see people doing it they seem to be there half the day swizzing water on .
looks like today might be a rerun of yesterday with sun but cold , was frosty last night walking home from the works do.
Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.5 -
Pas what about Dwarf Kale? Should be lower to the ground and less purchase for the wind. Honestly can't find anything else truely dwarf. Root veg should stay in the ground and sweetened by the coldWell it's wet here (quelle surprise) and cold. Still around 4c but damp cold so grim. It's supposed to be like this for most of march so I'm thinking I'll have to try and pot seeds in the garage. It's getting late again.Just to prove the point
These should have sheep grazing
This should be an ornamental stream.
Went for a walk along here yesterday with the hour it stopped raining and to avoid the mud I went to the 'firm' grass to find the hillside was just bog. Spent this morning trying to get the mud out of my shoes and trousers!Turning out old seeds found a packet well out of date but has Corriander in it. I'm going to chuck them all somewhere to see if anything comes up but wondered if there is any super spread with the Corriander? Not something I use but just for the novelty.Bluey, the plant in front of the gorse is Aconite I believe. Do NOT get this in your gardenI can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Dull here this morning and drunkards suggest will continue today, but we've had a couple of sunny afternoons over the past two days and I managed to get a photo of my crocuses (the yellow and white ones have gone over now) actually open in dappled sunlight...8

I'll have to keep my eye out for drunken monk wort, I love finding new cheeses...
Thanks for the Aconite id 2p. I didn't take a cutting but I was tempted cos the leaves were kinda heart shaped and glossy. Hopefully you don't get a lot more rain down there today cos you sure don't need it
Beautiful crocuses (...croci..?) LessI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4 -
twopenny said:Bluey, the plant in front of the gorse is Aconite I believe. Do NOT get this in your gardenI don't think those leaves are like Monkshood. They're more like Butterbur (Petasites) or Coltsfoot;not that many people would want those either!By the way, the big Gunnera manicata (but apparently it's a hybrid and mis-named) is now on the list of alien invasives and banned from sale in the UK. Maybe a Butterbur could act as a stand-in?
