YoungBlueEyes said:Your stream area looks lovely and cool Dusty, just right for escaping into in the heat of summer. Even if the plants are foreigners ha haa!About 8m above the stream is a wide grassed path that I keep mowed. That's a good place to sit and watch the wildlife. Down by the stream itself, the ground's quite uneven and there's too much tall grass and other plants in summer. You'd end up sitting in it, to say nothing of flies, midges etc.As predicted, we didn't walk or garden today; just tootled down to the fish & chip shop 13 miles south, and then took our lunch to a local vantage point. As we arrived, a hailstorm decided to join us!After lunch and a quick poke-around in Morries, (plants minimal, but they had Red Fox Leicester!
) we headed for the new GC. There, I picked up some compost and grit, while Mrs Dusty found a variety of Oregano we already have, but bought it anyway.
The GC has some amazing views, not very visible today. This is Dartmoor in the vicinity of Yes Tor, viewed from there in a clear moment.

Talk about a bricht moonlicht nicht pp, was it bricht as well? No moon pic here even though the moon was beautiful an hour ago, a very pale peachy sort of a colour and you could see some of the craters and markings, but none of that came out on a pic
Full moon tomorrow my phone says.
You've lovely views down there Dusty, even with the hailstones. And absolutely agree about the Red Fox - Aldi sometimes do big lumps of it so I grab handfuls and bang em in the freezer. Mmmmm
Tree picking up day seems to have come round quite quick since you first mentioned they were offering them Farway. Wonder what you'll get...? Jeez I'll laugh if you end up with the same as my ska tree! Mind least then I'll have a proper ID eh.
OT 0' out there now, high of 8' mid aft. Possibly. Calm and sunny though so I might drag my erse to the beach, get good lungfuls of clean salty air.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.6 -
Tree pick up day, just popping in before I tootle off to collect at Ten. Got my list of what I already have just in case there is an option, don't want to double-up like Mrs DustyIt was a bright moon here, with a frosty morning as well, rain on the way for tomorrow.YoungBlueEyes said:Judging by Farway's and Arb's pics then, my ska = apple. As long as it's a good eater it'll do
And woohoo for your hospice being a hospital Farway! Will that mean a bit of jiggery pokery and more hole digging to find it a place...?Catch up later with tree detailsEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens6 -

Long may it stay that way! The vast majority of grockles go sailing by at 60mph on the main trunk route and miss us altogether!
Sunny and calm here now, so I'm hoping for a productive day after yesterday's nonsense. Despite it being a total mud fest, I couldn't help noticing how green the fields looked for the time of year and how forward nature the wild plants and trees are."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Breaking news here... it's not raining!! Forecast is for sunny intervals and lights winds... for the next THREE days and 0% chance of rain whoop!! The sun has been out this morning, although it's back in now, but it's looking no' bad out there at the moment - I might even get out into the garden this weekend'A watched potato will never chit'...7

Wish I could be so positive. Everywhere sodden and flooded but the temperature is clawing its way up from 3 to 5c and the sky is clear but with massive clouds building.
Heavy rain forecast for tomorrow again so it's still indoors nonsense.
Like Dusty, although I'm in a tourist area they do all wizz across the hills from town to town ignoring anything that isn't on their'must see' agendas which is slightly irritating but leaves the rest for us.
The little birds were chirping happily this morning which I now take to mean better weather so I'm watching them more than the computer led forcast
At least this weather will stop me buying more plants as it will soon be too late to pfaff around in the garden!
Love the moon pic. A really good one.
I'd comment on Dusty s but almost what I have. Nice to know it's still out there though because it's been ages since I went for a drive!
Bluey your a tough nut going to the beach at this time.
Looking forward to Farways new tree.
Just thinking about what Wort and Abs are doing makes me feel tired!I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Yesterday was at work and the weather was crack so it wasn’t a bad place to be. Hail and freezing cold it was.
Today started with a frost and whilst I was up early and the sun came out a quick wash was done. Lovely and sunny now and I was thinking of you lot cleaning patios etc. and decided mine look terrible 😞 so tried a bit of bleach and water on the path to the gate and a few flags near the back door giving then a scrub and rinsing off. Slightly better but need something better.
I then had a bit of a tidy, I have an area of gravel that used to have a bird feeder over it, the seeds that fell produced some mad plant that spreads like billyo, so had a go at them. Then changed to a bit of chopping I have a huge euonymus green and gold and an Osmanthus which have had a crop. The green bin is now full.YBE beat me to it Dusty you have such fantastic views . Can’t wait to see Farway new tree.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6 -
This morning was freezing - literally... but dry at least.
When I went out to check how the wash was drying about half an hour ago there were still icebergs gently bobbing about in the various rainwater filled pots and tubs.
'Tusky is doing that strange thing where it's giving a percentage chance of rain then forecasting 0mm, so I'm not sure what's up with that but it's held off so far.
I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.6 -
Everyone has sun, I have rain which should be sun, grrr.Picked up the trees, Sunset apple & Summer Sun cherry, came with very sturdy stakes & ties, sort of Forestry Commission standard stakes & ties, for tying up Giant Redwoods. The stakes are sturdier than the tree at the moment. There was a small choice of varieties, but I think I made the best of what there was, both self fertile with great blossom and reliability.I've planted Sunset apple already, in the rain, which saved watering it in. I've left the tie in the car, so need to tie it up sometime. The Summer Sun cherry is going into the volunteer patch, planting tomorrow, in more forecast rainAll in all I reckon with the subsidy these were good value @£12 each, came from Blackmoor so looking like about £20 saving per tree, and at least they are used to Hampshire weatherSupposed to be on semi dwarfing roots, ultimate height, unchecked ten footish. M26 & Colt stockThey are two years old bare root, about four feet high plus root. I'll get photos when it's drier.

Red Fox Leicester... are we talking cheese?? If so, I can recommend Aldi/Lidl Double Gloucester with onion and chive - yum, just don't breathe on anyone after eating it...
Wort, I tried the watered down bleach on some paving slabs in my last garden. It worked, but it was bloomin' hard work scrubbing away.
AR, I thought you were going to say your washing had frozen solid outside
Happy new trees, Farway. I'm envious of you all with trees and buds a-popping (lovely pics, btw).
I had a lovely walk in the sun today - honestly it was so nice because it's been such a rare thing lately. Sorry to those with rain today - we're getting it back on Tuesday so just a brief respite.'A watched potato will never chit'...6
