State of this! It hadn’t even opened! #GoingOffDaffs
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.7 -
We have another beautiful day here (sorry, twopenny) - it's cold, but sunny and dry. It was frosty first thing and I took a pic of the moon too, YBE, nowhere near as big as yours though, even zoomed in. The sky was lovely with pink stripes - I'll post a pic when I'm on my phone.
Gorgeous crocus pic, LI - my yellow ones haven't opened like that at all. What a shame about your daffodil, YBE.
Wort, I'm going to try the 'Wet and Forget' that twopenny mentioned for my paving slabs. Is it worth looking at that instead of power washing??
Cheese... is Beechwood the same as Applewood?? I lurve smoked cheese.
Off to investigate what I can do in the garden now - it's still a bit frosty in parts and soggy in others so I'll be tiptoeing around...'A watched potato will never chit'...7 -
Blimey, I nip out to plant a few trees & there are pages of posts, and some lovely picturesRain in the wind, which is good because the cherry was planted this morning, along with the day lilies I transplanted from my apple tree hole space.Paspatur said:All you lot with your orchards
I bought a Little Miss Figgy (bad influences on here) and put it in the greenhouse, looks quite dead but I will wait patientlyYoungBlueEyes said:
Those were good links Farway, I thought the box down the left hand side explained things well. How long 'til you're sitting eating sun-warmed apples and cherries do you think?LessImpecunious said:Hopefully the Sunset apple will do well Farway - one of my most reliable varieties, despite being very inexpertly trained as a sort of espalier in the rainshadow of an outbuilding and planted in a hole excavated pretty much into bedrock... (at least 15 years ago, and still surviving)... Not a big cropper, hardly surprising given conditions, but some fruit every year (nearly 40 in 2022, though not so good last year), tasty and juicy.... Seems size of apples can be influenced more than normal by thinning, and taste they say is sort of weather dependant, maybe warmer year is better?
Beautiful crocus pic BTW, when I went to collect my trees yesterday there were big swathes in the churchyard, but all closed up with the wet. Of course, I had deliberately taken a camera along, but 'twas not to be.One Spring pic though, the forsythia in the volunteer border, which I thought may have suffered during Fenceaggeddon, is now in full bloom. It's the first year it is starting to look as I hoped it would. Patience is a virtue.Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens8 -

How's this?
I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.8 -

wort said:I love drunken monk cheese , only had it from the Christmas markets though. That and a nice onion and garlic one and Stilton with a glass of port
It and many tempting others from the same stable are available by mail order.

A couple survived, came out about a week ago, and promptly fell over, as per usual. I will get them out this year! No sign of the Tetes or the Jetfire I planted instead.Lovely sky pp and good news re the fig Paspatur.I've not checked my figs, which have been outdoors since the old polytunnel's demise. I recall having one fig from the two of them last year!
The one potted olive I have made it under cover for the winter. I popped it outside again yesterday. It produced one olive, so twice as productive as the two figs!
At the GC the other day I lusted after this:https://www.frankpmatthews.com/catalogue/fruit-trees/fig/ice-crystal/

Farway my forsythia looks nothing like that!
It does have lots and lots of healthy buds
Be interesting to see how much later mine flowers6 -
OMG, Farway, that cracked me up
Thank you for your more sensible version as well, AR
DH and I have chopped another 4 branches off one of the Rowan trees to raise the canopy - I know Scottish superstition dictates you shouldn't chop down Rowans, so I'm hoping I can get away with just a few branches... It was lovely being out in the garden - we had two robins dotting around keeping an eye on what we were doingI'm shattered now, but in a good way.
