Jeez Arb, that was some trek eh. Bet you felt lucky to get home after all that! And the ‘posting too much about the weather’ post made me giggle 😁 Good moody flood pic but I like the dog pic more
If JSO protesters rolled out the hot ones at every event I reckon they’d have a greater following. You’d be hard pushed to find totty willing to glue their face to a road though 😆
Farway how do I change location on the webcams? I can see my one but I can’t see how to view other ones…?(I blinked first and lost control of the telly remote, I’m Bangers+Cash’d out, so I’m on here)
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4 -
Hooray, Hoorah, I've made it into the weekly blog, admittedly with a cooking photo but I'm in! Stew, savings & side hustles – this week's MSE Forum highlights (moneysavingexpert.com)
In other news, it rained all night here but then this morning it was intermittently showery and then dried up at 2ish so I went out for a cycle ride along the river. On my way home I passed two male students in swimming trunks just climbing out of the very dirty looking water, I can't think why they wanted to swim in all the churned up mud, leaves and general mess coming downstream especially as it was very chilly here today. The water meadows along this stretch of the Thames are all flooded so I'm hoping for a dry winter or I'll need to buy a canoe.
I spotted a wagtail fruitlessly trying to drink from a cattle trough yesterday, it was very funny as it tried several different positions and then gave up and flew off into a tree. I couldn't get a clear photo because it was bobbing its tail so enthusiastically.
@ArbitraryRandom - your Odyssey sounds very tiring, hope you recover soon.

Ooh trumpets for gf - parp prp prp prp parp parp parp paarrpp! Tasty looking stew too and the dumps look delicious
Those students were brave souls eh, god knows what was in that water... So you asking Santa for a canoe for Christmas?
It gave up raining about 4ish here yesterday aft, and that's us for a few days now so it can all start drying out :fingerscrossed: It wasn't warm out there but it felt less cold when the breeze dropped. I've never lived somewhere that had a flood alert, it's unnerving. Is everybody else alright after the storm? None of us live on the top right ish of Scotland...?
Calm and maybe a few sunny spells today, that'll be a refreshing changeI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.6 -
Congratulations Goldie
You really feel there should be some sort of medal. Perhaps one of those badges they're so keen on?
It could be wall to wall sunshine today - or rain. Lovely sunrise but chilly.
It was downright freezing on the moors yesterday. Heard the stag boving and the colours are amazing. Ponies huddling together and keeping close to run for shelter.
Took 2hrs before I was warm again.
Had a gaze round the garden and every slab and ornament green. No need to check the pond or bird bath. I'm pretty sure they're full.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

g. Is everybody else alright after the storm? None of us live on the top right ish of Scotland...?With the sunshine, I think I may take a tour of Farway Acres AKA mooch around the garden, see if any problems from the storm, I do know the dahlias need dead heading which I may do now it's dryEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens6 -
Congrats gf for the stew photo.
It looked very edible, though knowing me, I'd have thrown a few prawns in it. That's what I do when my SiL makes a vegetarian something-or-other. It must be blimmin' annoying, but I'm old and get away with it!
Looks like a half-decent day out there, but it's hoovering this morning, then out in the workshop this pm with Mrs Dusty to renovate the polytunnel doors. Could have done with them last week when that eastern hoolie was coming right through!Glad your sunflower is still in place, poppy. Who knows, when it finally drops you may have enough seeds for a garden full!Speaking of seeds, I've found the newish bush-type tomatoes, Veranda Red, the RHS were growing at Rosemoor are cheap at Premier seeds. I've also invested in an orange Czech variety called Datlo, allegedly cherry sized and plum-shaped. Reports on these in 2024."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Boving - there's a new word for me
Same weather here 2p, sun's out but it's not warm.
Thanks for that Farway, I was only doing it on my phone but desktop has a lot more to play with
Gawd you don't stop Dusty! What's going in the polytunnel when MrsD finishes when it's finished...?I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.6 -

Gawd you don't stop Dusty! What's going in the polytunnel when MrsD finishes when it's finished...?Here's a link for you. It's the BBC....but before they went full-on woke :
The polytunnel will 'evolve' during the winter. After a fairly massive male chicken-up, I'm faced with difficulties with making deep beds there. It's nothing hard labour can't solve, and sadly, it will be mine, not bought-in. There are also trees to fell and cut up, plus a couple of other projects likely to happen, so there's no telling how far I'll get, but there will be a bed for next year's tomatoes!Meanwhile, half the area inside will be used for storing more 'sensitive' plants that hate cold and wet, and probably some tough greens, like Mizuna.

I have been doing very little today - I put on a single load of laundry (which I think can go out now and will dry tomorrow morning) and picked squash number 2. It would almost certainly benefited from another week or two and some warmer weather to completely remove the green veins, but the stalk was drying and I think things are only going to get colder from here. There is an absolutely tiny number 3 still growing on the plant, so we'll see
I had actually forgotten I'd picked number 1 and it's been sitting on my kitchen window cil for a while... so here's a picture of both (please excuse the mess) with an intentional tub of baking soda for scale and an unintentional cat for cuteness.
They weigh 600 and 800g and (depending on how much of them is seed) will happily make a meal for 1 at some point. I'm going to pop them back on the window for another week or two before deciding what to do with them.I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.8 -
Black cat and squash - perfect for the time of year
That is a cute cat definitely!
So totally unpredicted weather. Got the paving cleaner down, leather bag out drying and plants wrapped up but while out for paint it bucketed downso cleaner washed off?? Or not? And wet bag.
Not a chance for dealing with the beans.
Not warm either. Maybe we're going to have a warm December - has happened, at least onceI can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
