Lovely sunny day here, cold first thing but I went into to Home Bargains early, compost, grow bag & large tubs, work for Easter, drill holes and getting ready should my posh cannas ever grow, actually it's a tad cold for them & my dahlias now, another week or so I reckonWhile patrolling the garden yesterday, I spotted a fritillaria had crept up and so far missed by lily beetles. Out with the camera this afternoon & here it is, had to use mega zoom lens because no way could I get that lowEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens5

Those are some attractive markings Farway
Hopefully your plantings found their feet..?
Sunny but cool here today, house is frozen from the wind coming straight through the gaping holes that were windows. Over half way there though, 2 more days will finish the window bit of the job he says. Then front door going in on Tuesday 🤞🏻
I’m thinking of planting my trees over the weekend. They’ve not been in buckets very long, will it upset/stress them to go through it again? Or should I just crack on?Thanks for explaining the word 'many' to me. It means a lot.1 -
Probably be a good time now while the soil is damp and it's still cool. Have you got stakes for them?
Mine get moved 2 or in one case 3 times and they are fine. The only one that had probs was the one that went in once and planted by the nursery man!
I worried about red ants too. But then with the history of this house it was fair enough. I found once there was regular mowing and digging they went elsewhere
Mowed the lawns, edged and weeded today. I seem to have a 3rd big pot succumb to the weather this winter. Never happened before so shows how bad its been.
The Agapanthus is coming up fast, so are the antsSo my ant traps down.
Farway, really envy you cannas and fritillaries. How beautiful!I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Sorry, roaming in a local peninsula yesterday and therefore run off my feet in catch-up today, but both were sunny and warm while in the sunshine. Tonight it looked like a full moon, and things turned mighty chilly as soon as the sun dipped below the hedges. Saw my first Brimstone butterfly for this year.Lovely fritillaria picture Farway.
I must remember to look for ours tomorrow, but I expect they'll be some way behind yours.

I haven't got any stakes, I'll put them on my list. I'll get more ant powder too. I had ants in my last house, well in the garden, but they meant I couldn't happily lay on the grass with a book
I wonder what your nursery man did differently that his caused probs 2p....? Also I had to DuckDuck agapanthus but they look lovely
I'll get mine planted and see what happens, weather permitting. Thanks for explaining the word 'many' to me. It means a lot.0 -
A bit dull this morning, but getting brighter, so more lily beetle hunting this afternoonI love agapanthus, but it's another plant I kept buying that promptly died once it got in my garden, so eventually I gave up and now just admire from afarCrack on & get those trees in YBE, and this time next year you'll be watching the blossom buds getting eaten by the finches and the ants climbing the trunksThe canna seeds that I started and just sat waiting to decide what way was UP seem to have settled in now they are in compost, shoots are just appearing above the compost this morning, probably move to window sill tomorrow once I'm sure about their intentionsWishing it would warm up a bit, I'd like to move the California poppy seedlings outside into a sheltered area because I'll soon need the space for my millions of tomatoes once I pot those onLooking at the Hot Lips cuttings I potted on the other week, I think I have a cuckoo in the nest
, they do look suspiciously like foxgloves as they get growing, bummer
, some seeds must have blown in at the crucial time. I'll leave them to see what does grow before I decide on Phase Three
Luckily the Hot Lips parent need a Spring trim soon so time to try againEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens2 -
Rain, chilly and cloud cover. I think about 9C. The temperatures are surely all over the place here. very unusual for a coastal area.So no gardening today but felt a bit smug this morning that I got the tidy up done and didn't put it off. Along with all the washing. Nice to get something right for a changeFeeling very tired running around the last couple of days making the most of the sunshine so some R&R will be welcome. Gear me up for the next round.Yes, Blue, I was ambiviliant about stakes but so glad I did. Seeing the way the little tree got battered by the winds it would have snapped even after 3yrs or so.I used old sock cut in strips to go under the ties so they wouldn't rub too much. Seems to have worked a treat.Should look like this but looks like.
this!

Farway - ants climbing the trunks. I had a big creamy camelia in my last wee house and the ants would swarm all over the trunk and branches. Made my stomach go funny.
So are you having to start again with your Hot Lips? At least you've got your cannas goingThanks for explaining the word 'many' to me. It means a lot.0 -
