Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Beautiful photo Farway. They are a beautiful bird but they have such nasty habits such as killing young Blackbirds.Looking closely at the buds on the Japonica the holes are round on the top, more like a caterpillar or similar but no sign. There was a brown leaf stuck together with a cobweb like sticky - I also have a similar bug eating and killing the leaves on my Stella Magnolia in a pot and the dwarf apple I gave away. A definitel Agatha Christie plot. The mask thing? Yes there were two 'adults' on a bus not wearing a mask so the school teens were giggling and taking theirs off. Hey Ho, my hopes of bus travel again twarted. Seems mainly young women now. What is their problem? All christmasy plants and such returned to their display places now the wind has gone down.It was lovely and mild this morning but with the rain came the gloom and cold. So gardening is still on hold.

@Farway - lovely safari photo particularly the light on the wings and tail.
Cold, sunny, cold, windy, cold and rain here with more tree planting being carried out in the Meadow this lunchtime. The only wildlife I saw today was a grey squirrel."She could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo pooped."

Cold wind with bright sun, I thought about venturing out for more photos but the wind will cut through my old bones and freeze my fingers so I'll give that a miss for todayIf the sun keeps going next door have a hanging basket with cyclamen in & I noticed how the sun shone though the petals yesterday, at least until the rain tipped downIf it repeats today I'll try for a picture of them this afternoonGardener’s pest is chef’s escargot1

It was quite nice first thing, sun shining all day but by 11 there was an icy blast straight from the Artic!Every time I opened a door or went out to survey what to do I turned to a block of ice.So I stayed in and basked in the sun and central heating and thought I could get into layers of thermals and prune then changed my mind and had a pot of tea and mince pieStill can't find my pruning saw, main saw or long handled secatures (the latest to be missing) so they must be all together somewhere. Not going to fret about it until it warms up. In theory and according to the Met office that will be tomorrow. Cloudy but warm.

Just an aside, didn't there used to be a chat forum the moneysavers alms or some such that was suspended during the worst of the pandemic?Doesn't seem to exist now.

Well it seems no one is keen on the garden in winterI do keep looking and if the weather stays dry I'm going for the full clear up this weekend. It is a mess but so are others. It's been very mild, coatless if you've been moving about, and sometimes bright. Cloud cover predicted for the next few days which isn't bad for this time of year but depressing and not motivational. However it has been 13-14C if there is no wind so enjoying while we can by being out and about because experience tells me that we pay for such warmth at midwinter.6 days to the shortest - yipee! Then we look forwards again.

I'm down south, and the gazanias in the nearby gardens are still in flower, albeit nor open because it was overcast. At home the begonias are frosted and the fuchsia that was a mass of blossom all autumn just dropped all it's leaves and flowers in on night last week.
Been delighted by a friend's electronic card, showing two views of the house, one under snow and the next with the big old apple tree in full blossom. And a reminder that the spring will come soon.
In packing, I found the last lot of tulips, which I had torn the house about hunting 10 days previously. They are a darker shade bought to sharpen up a tub of pink varieties that I bought early in the autumn as a back-up. They've now joined the rest of the bulbs planted weeks ago.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing3 -
Which weather sites or apps do people find most accurate? Ironically accuweather doesn't seem all that.4.29kWp Solar system, 45/55 South/West split in cloudy rainy Cumbria.1

For forecasting, I find the BBC weather app is pretty reliable, but resort to the met office site if I want rainfall radar data.2
