Ganga ouch to the ridge tiles. That's definitely unexpected with that sort. I'd get the rest checked while they're up there. Probably something small but would make a big difference. 30 years the mortar cracking?
Fence panels, small fry but annoying. Locally peeps have used concrete support posts beside the wooden ones so complete replacement put off for years.
Lovely backdrop. Glad none of the trees came down!
We wish they had ,stops a lot of sun light in the garden in the winter when the sun is low.

Ah....shame. It's such a nice thing to see compared to brick walled houses but I can see your point.

We would like the really tall ones taken down ,there are loads of self seeded saplings growing among the mature trees ,i asked the local council to do something about them ,No money ,No staff etc ,would be interesting if one had come down in the local storm and did some serious damage.

Are the trees part of a wood / coppice? Just asking becuse round here there are woods and the local tree huggers help maintian them, clear bracken, undergrowth etc but to be fair some of the trees are old 'uns and not just sycamores

No planted by the then Washington Development Council , Washington was a " New Town " built in the 70,s ,was a mining town with loads of new houses and loads of industry was attracted ,it then became part of Sunderland City Council.
A council with very limited staff and finances.
Better than the urban jungle i grew up in ,terraced house with a road and a back lane ,no trees or grass.I haveposted pictures of the trees when me moved into the house ,about 1992 and the trees last year! The two trees in the garden when we moved in were cut down years later by myself and new cherry trees planted ( only had one cherry as the birds love them and get them before me )

I can see what you mean. Those tall trees need a good clean up at the least. They seem to have grown too tall and too thin. If tidied you'd get light - if grown properly you'd have background.
The cherries are in a great spot. Really add to the garden.
Another sunny but bitterly cold day. It crossed my mind briefly that it was dry enough to do some tidying in the garden but I'd have to be wrapped up like the Mitchelin Man which would not be fun.
So I went out photographing again, bought 2 organic, free range reindeer for the garden (more later) and found the elusive fir cones just as I went back to the car. They are for my intended insect hotel.........though I think it's a bit late. If they haven't hibernated already they'll have snuffed it.

  • Thanks for the background Ganga, makes sense with lack of cash, same everywhere I think, I've mentioned before how trees get planted in a blaze of publicity& then get neglected, some die & others just go berserk

I think I've had more cheries off my tree than you, but not many more, despite netting they either get ruined by snails or split and go mushy, but like all garders we know one good year will put the bad in the shade

2P, fir cones, I have some super long ones growing at the back of my garden, not my tree but they fall on my ground. I nearly took a photo of them shining in the sun yesterday but never did. A job for another day if the sun comes back

Becuse it was sunny yesterday and my foot is improved I did same as 2P, camera out & about, no free range reindeer though.
My spot was an old church yard, come spring it's full of snowdrops but too earlyy right now, it was blooming cold though.

Cloudy and damp because it rained after I watered the pots. But it's a bit milder with no wind.

Well looked at the rose and trellis hanging off the fence and thought if I leave it for another high wind it will come down on its own and save me some prickles.
I may call into the garden centre and see what new trellis costs. No cheapie shops stocking garden stuff. Perhaps after Christmas would be better to fix it.
Also the young elder i couldn't prune. One more look for my saws. They must be there somewhere. Neither that or the blackberries are going anywhere. I'll wait for a nice day or enthusiasm to arrive  :)
Glad your foot is a bit better farway. Love the way trees look at this time of year.

Nice & bright outside but looking damp. Wish it would dry up a bit because I'd like to clear some of the dahlia tops & coleous now they've beeen frosted and done for, just don't fancy tackling all that soggy dead foliage

Today's pic is a knitted top spotted on a post box when I went to the dentist this week. Only gardenig connection is some poppies & wildlife ;)

Love that. Always guaranteed to give a surprise and a smile - or grumble for those that enjoy it better.
We have an ancient lane of shops where (pre covid) they were brilliantly yarn bombed on a different theme. Star Wars was my favourite and I could sit with my coffee seeing what I could spot.
Just bucked up the average day
Weather here is still bitterly cold with hail and rain and a N wind so gardening, or anything outside, is off for a weekend.
Glad I stuffed more than I should into yesterday.
Some Christmas spirit arrived in my garden yesterday...there are lights too.
