Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Last night's weather here made me think that whoever first told the story of the Three Little Pigs had sat in a rather inadequate shelter during a howling storm. I definitely felt as though a wolf was huffing and puffing and generally prowling around trying to blow the roof off.
On a lighter note I took this photo of some interesting maples that I spotted on the way home from the town centre the other day. Funny how the leaves on some branches change way before the others on the same tree.

Bright & sunny with blue sky and no wind, however it’s blooming cold out there, not frosty but very wrap up warm weather
The storm has removed most of the leaves from the trees, just a few stragglers left now.
GF, The leaf colouration seems hit & miss, I always thought it was down to where colder air, or morning sun etc. caught the leaves, could well be very wrong of course. I notice in my garden the espalier pear tree still has all its leaves, and all are green & glossy, but nearby apple & plum are now bare, very odd

Earth stood hard as iron, well I'm not absolutely sure but all the puddles and remaining snow patches are solid ice now.
The maple out back which has been a mass of gold shed all its leaves in the storm, so I'll need to clear the path and take them to the plot.
It's currently trying to snow with big flakes gently falling, in complete contrast to the howling gale yesterday.
Got my allotment seed order, though, so starting to think of next year.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing2 -
Sunny but chilly.
Put the bird house to rights but it's going to need some Tlc in spring. The trellis supporting a climbing rose is in a state. All needs taking down and redoing.
On the whole nothing major this time.
Anyone watching 'the wild Gardner' on channel 5? What a fabulous site and would love to do something like that.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Snowed overnight, not a lot being down South, more of a dusting than proper snow, but it's finished off the nasturtiums & blackened the dahliasOut with the camera for a few frozen fingered pics, here's the iced fuchia at the frontEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens5

I cannot bring myself to cut off or dig up flowers that are still blooming even though I want to tidy the garden for winter. I have a rose with a bud. I cannot cut it off.
Now it has snowed and is actually still freezing here in the midlands it looks like I can finally go and clear it all. When its not quite so cold out obviously lol.3 -
It turned much milder later in the day today and we've had a fair plug of sunshine. All I've done is start to water pots. I really should be more dedicated to this but life is a busy mess still post lockdown exit.I'm surprised just how dry they are considering we have had showers and rain. That picture of frost looks lovely when you're in the warm :)I was up on the moor today collecting bits for my bug/hedgehog hotel and there was ice in the road, just a little.Down south here I have some pinks & roses blooming along with the winter jasmine and scented viburnum which has leaves and flowers so it's as confused as me.I have a rescued rosemary stem that is flowering prolificly too.The leaves remain on my prunus tree in the cold front garden while they have totally left the shrub version in the sheltered back. It's a weird world at the moment.

We had the full force of the storm on Friday night ,blew the ridge tiles of the roof ,sounded like a plane had hit the roof , the house is only 35 years old ,did not expect that ,front fence and gate blown down ,only needs a new fence post BUT it is set in the block paving ! ,two or three planters blown about the garden ,one of them has a late flowering Hydranger ,do not think it is supposed to flower late but we have had a strange year weather wise up here in the North East ,next door on both sides have had there fences blown over ,could be worse at least we are all ok. Now we have got lots of snow !!4

Much milder this morning just dull, gloomy and breezy. Not a gardening day
Bad luck on the ridge tiles, especially on a relatively young house. Fences are a continuous problem, hope you get them fixed OK, I seem to recall last storm there were shortages of panels / posts, and of course fencers

Ganga ouch to the ridge tiles. That's definitely unexpected with that sort. I'd get the rest checked while they're up there. Probably something small but would make a big difference. 30 years the mortar cracking?
Fence panels, small fry but annoying. Locally peeps have used concrete support posts beside the wooden ones so complete replacement put off for years.
Lovely backdrop. Glad none of the trees came down!I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
