Interesting effect by using the filter, Farway.

Belated best wishes for the New Year to everyone.

I joined one of my mates yesterday morning to do some bee stuff, which meant cutting back the hedge behind the apiary and tackling the brambles that were encroaching. Think we might have dug them all up?

Then went down to my own plot to do several tasks. Need to dig up and pot various vines that have rooted so they can by given away. And remove the rest of the errant raspberry canes.   and, and, and...............

Was cream crackered by 4.50 when I got home. Amazing how much lighter the sky was than one very grey misty afternoon last week when it was deep dusk by 3.30.

There's some sun showing but still quite overcast, a typical January day really, and may even rain later so they say

At least some gardening has taken place, sown the bonsai I had as Christmas present. I know it's a gift but it really is poor, none of the seeds are named, so could anything except oak, hazel or horse chestnut, just seeds and playing at Eco with coir pots & wooden lolly stick labels, which are useless if no idea what the seeds are.

Anyway, job done, sit & wait now, at least given my age no one is expecting to see the end miniture tree results in pride of place on fancy pedestals in my garden :D

The only thing i'll be doing, again, is wading out to refill the feeders - oh, and pick up some of the pots which the high winds have scattered around the place.

I'm back to work, properly, tomorrow so trying to kickstart the frame of mind required !

    Saturday was bright and dry!
I did the tidy up and mowed the back lawn. I can now bear to draw the curtains of a morning.
As usual my good intentions not to over do it went awol and I move plants, arranged my secret seating area and heavy slabs so had two recover Sunday. It had rained over night to water everything in.
The rose, new dawn, may have to be removed and replaced but there is a derth of the old reliable roses in the GC. I'm reluctant to go online as I like to see what I'm buying.
Still can't work out a plan for the back garden. I'll have to post some photos and ground plan and beg for new ideas while everones in for winter.....
    Love the photo Farway.

Very blustery but bright and sunny now.

Yesterday started well but I was half way through painting the back wall of the shed (because all the stuff hidden behind it had be moved out so we could tackle the hedge) when it started to spit. Finished it and replaced the polycarbonate, old shower doors etc in such a away as to protect it from the on-coming rain. Quite a lot else to tidy and didn't realise 'til I got home that the shoulders on my shirt were damp as well as my fleece.

Will try and do another wall on the shed as it should be dry and warm enough today, and then some stuff on the plot.  If it gets too windy, might retreat to the garden which also needs attention but is better protected from the wind.

Another week and we will see the days start to draw out.

And back to dull & grey, the forecast possible rain yesterday was a deluge when it arrived, so no pottering was attempted, and it's back to soggy now

I have buds on the polyanthus I bought as young plants and potted up, but they are still in the larger pots and waiting to be planted out, which is why I need to clear the soggy stuff soon
The Shasta daisies I grew from seed are getting larger now as well, also in pots in conservaroty, no rush with them but another month they'll need to be out I think

I feel your pain on the sogginess Farway. It's so bad here that it's almost impossible to get out and do anything in the garden. Even going to the bins is worryingly squelchy! I guess as least my newly planted hedge should be OK (hornbeam... it should cope with being sodden for most of the year, although given the weather maybe I should have gone with alder!).

If the stream isn't over the top of my wellies, maybe I should spend some time in there instead.

    Unexpected snow today!
Darn cold with a north easterly. Very rare here and a bit of a shock with it being 15c yesterday.
It didn't lay here but again, soggy.
I was out with friends and we saw a beautiful tree growing on a bank of scrub. Someone took a photo for the comparison site but it didn't make the right guess.
So I'll trundle over tomorrow-ish, get as close as possible and post here for expert advice.
I'd like one but thinking it may grow too large.

Woke yesterday before dawn to the sound of ice being scraped off car windows and people seemed to be making heavy weather of it. Only later discovered that the lower 2/3rds of windscreens on cars still here were covered in good cm of thick ice. Snow and rain had both fallen then frozen and didn't defrost all day.  A big change but from 10 degrees, here.

Rescued 3 chrysanthemums in pots from the garden, all with new shoots, that still looked OK. No potting up cuttings or digging possible but sorted some stuff for shredding. Need to finish the pruning if possible.

    Another sunny day otherwise.

Woke to frost everywhere, and even harder forecast for tomorrow. We could do with a week or so frozen to get rid of some pests with hungry birds trying harder to find the snails in my garden. At least the rain stopped & sun's out, I have a polyanthus out at the front and all being well I'll take it's picture for here, my first flower of the year :)

Looking forward to the tree photo 2P, sounds interesting
