Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Sun never lasted very long, back to damp & dull today, and about to rain any minute by the looks of it, no fancy moon here tonight
Chalk up another Pulp Fiction lover here.YoungBlueEyes said:Deffo don't watch Pulp Fiction then, it's full of violence and vengeance and people being very mean to each other and using bad language and all sorts. (It's great fun!) ..
Hopefully you got more done in the garden than I did yesterday Farway, I did next to nowt. Cut some brown bits off some plants, got a picture of a rose in the sunshine, cut back my berry stalk things, saw a few things that I can't decide if they're dead or dormant, and then I came back in cos that wind was a bit keen :brrr: It was sunny for a few hours though, and I was glad to see it
I'm opposite Dusty, love gratuitous violence in some films, but It All Depends, some like PF & the Kill Bill series are, IMO, tongue in cheek and modern versions of the Penny Dreadful, like Shaun of the DeadYesterday's gardening also came to nowt, there was also a cold wind here, and by the time erse was engaged the clouds arrived & then it rained, so went to Llareggub
Looking out, I think Llareggub location may remain todayWhile searching for my Broad bean seeds, I found more tomato seeds
, I have far too many, but in my defence, some only have a couple of seeds in a packetI found the BBs, BTW, I only want a taste, not a freezer fullHappy birthday Dusty, lang may yer lum reek

Deffo don't watch Pulp Fiction then, it's full of violence and vengeance and people being very mean to each other and using bad language and all sorts. Thanks for the birthday wishes, both.
I don't exactly look forward to adding another year these days, especially now there are very few (any?) benefits.
Coming so soon after Christmas, my folks didn't make a big deal of it when I was a kid!
I misread your first line Bluey and thought, “We haven't had many bums here lately.”
We do have a haggis ready in the fridge, but as for bums, there don't seem to be any in the picture archive sitting
unused. So, rather than dwell on being ancient, or lamenting the dearth of posterior poses, I'm going to post an image Mrs Dusty took of me on my birthday 16 years ago, not long after we first arrived here. The weather must've been similar, as I'm wet through! And here's a picture of the garden
This should explain why the bonfire!
The polytunnel is somewhere around here now. That's a huge pile of tyres in the background.
So, lots to be grateful for, even if the hair's grey in '26.
The top photo is temporary. It will disappear tomorrow.
OT: Wet, mild and not encouraging. It might be wet and brighter later.

Well done on emptying your garage wort, now if you wouldn't mind coming round and doing the same for my shed, that'd be lovely
let me know how the angel wings get on, I put some in the dry bit in the front and they keeled over. ybe, I changed my mind, remembered I had a shredder, so the pile will be coming home with me next time. Good point about freebies, and there's the caveat that if it doesn't go, stick a sign saying ten quid on it and someone will take it
I'm still inwardly laughing at the house swap people. Are you over your lurgy completely now? I have a friend who is in hospital with it now. Dusty, does that mean the new owner of LandGrabLand may come into this knowledge via a gentle word?
that is a pretty viburnum isn't it? I'm toying with making a hedge out of bay at the lotment , maybe interspersing it with something else, just because the wind is ridiculous, and I may also want to create an enclosed ish sitting area so I can admire my plants growing [ Ha! ] at some point.. Happy Birthday for your seven something day
I think I'd have been doing some bodily functions if I had been on that train. Well, at least you look happy to be burning things!! You have done absolute wonders in the garden....I'm an action movie fan, I love a bit of violence, it's my escape for my own thoughts, I see it, so I don't have to do it
Predator and Aliens are my top two favourite films...And Die Hard...Does that mean all printers talk to each other 2p? I'm beginning to wonder if the mse forum isn't a hub for printer info exchange too. Secretary prayer is spot on for a lot of occupations, and I think a prerequisite reading for having a relationship too. I think I preferred all the little gardens that were shown in Montys thing, I mean the big ones were nice, but not realistically adaptable. the train was such an eccentric add..Less, lovely hellebores [ adds to list...again... ] ....The penguin joke is still funny Farway, especially when you forget it and read it again. Happy forever homes to your plants, poke them broad beans in. I think I'll give mangy tout a go this year, I like peas but they're very faffy to pod, so I'll just stick a few in for snacking on the spot.Went to the lotment the last couple of days in the spaces where it wasn't raining and managed to three quarters dig the fruit cage. Came away with some spent grains from brewing so they'll be added to the raised beds [ and some to stick around the place] so a bit of digging left to do and then I can move the fruit bushes and loganberry...Can't wait to do more which is unusual ...rain, rain and more rain here interspersed with occasional sunny bits. Very windy and cold though.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi5 -
Congrats on reaching seventy something Dusty, and better remove that pic quick before Farway and his cyberpal do something funny with it! (maybe invovling bums...)6

Many happy returns Dusty, 🎂🥂🍻🎊 hope you got to celebrate. I missed your pic, but sure you don’t look a day older now. I’m with you on violence and confrontation. I love a murder mystery but they have become more and more scary and gory ,even the so called gentler ones.
Farway that pic 😂😂😂😂
Went to Lidl no stand with seeds at all😢 got a butternut squash instead will make soup later in the week.
Gaura is on my list, tbh the was 1 @ b n q but looked too dead to be worth what they wanted. Anyone had luck with seeds? Or know what month I should look for a plug plant?Cute photo 2p , glad you’re feeling better.
We are off out after work today ,celebrating all Jan birthdays with a cheap Monday deal meal.
No rain yesterday , but was forcast so will probably be today.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.7 -
Morning all, on International Day of Clean Energy. And we're back to the bollix
Violent films have to be done right imo. I don't want a shitte storyline where they shoe-horn improbable deaths in to make it an 18. I like a decent body count but only if it's done properly and makes sense - eg Joe Pike, or Jack Reacher (but not the film they created as a vehicle for that snaggled-toothed little pi55-ant Mr Cruise). I agree there's a lack of bums about the place, maybe mentioning it will make some appear...
I missed your pic Dusty but I can imagine it from Farway's recreation
That's some difference you've made there! I'd be expecting to find families of rats in amongst the original pic *shudder* How's your hens btw? No more losses..?
Your tenner a bag idea is better than free taff, people are more likely to lift something if it's got a value..? Agree about Die Hard, good film is that. Alan Rickman never did a bad turn did he. Fruit cage is near done then, what's next on the list..?
2p your pic should be Feb on our calendar - a bit of lovin' for Valentine's
Deffo another front page one is that. Glad you're improving too you sound brighter
Online Agony Aunt holiday advice - if you could monetise that you'd be moved in no time :clapping:
I couldn't tell you about gaura wort but the proper people will be up soon and they'll set you straight. My lidl is sans seeds as well. I mean it's not that I'm short of seeds but they might have things I didn't know I wanted
Enjoy your meal tonight
OT not a bad morning out there, that damp's lifted at least. 3'c and the FL is the same. They reckon 3' all day but the FL will be -5 by midnight
Be interesting to see what it's like tomorrow - the sobers have given snow and 45mph wind with a FL of -8 tomorrow morning, but auntie and the Weather&Radar people say a bit rainy and mild. You'd wonder why we bother with them. Honesty is the best poverty.7 -
Dry so far, but a bad 'un for tomorrow, no snow, just gales & rain
Die Hard, I saw a bit about Alan Rickman saying the reason he looked so surprised at the end, as he plunged down, was the director told him the drop would be on count of three, but the director then did it on One !. No acting was requiredYoungBlueEyes said:Agree about Die Hard, good film is that. Alan Rickman never did a bad turn did he.

Gaura, just looked on ChatGPT, if you type in your your Gaura query, plus give sowing calendar and suppliers it gives the lot.Easy from seed it seems, and now is the time to sow. About 3 - 4 months from seed to flower, and one of those seed types that needs light to germinate, don't sow, leave on surface or perlite coverNo gardening today, damp and gloomy, not even suitable for clearing dead stuff at the front.
Here's what AI says, for Hampshire sowingwort said:Gaura is on my list, tbh the was 1 @ b n q but looked too dead to be worth what they wanted. Anyone had luck with seeds? Or know what month I should look for a plug plant? It omitted the bit about knocking seed pots onto the floor sometime in AprilMonth What to Do January Optional early sowing indoors with heat (bright windowsill or propagator). February Main sowing time indoors. Sow on surface of compost, don’t cover. Keep warm (15–20 °C). March Continue indoor sowing. !!!!!! out seedlings once large enough to handle. April Pot on into small pots. Start hardening off late in the month on mild days. May Plant out into final pots after last frost (usually mid-May). Keep sunny and sheltered. June Strong growth. First flowers appear on early sowings. Water lightly but regularly. July Peak flowering. Deadhead lightly or just let them sway naturally. August Continue flowering. Very drought-tolerant once established. September Still flowering. Reduce feeding and watering slightly. October Final flowers. Decide whether to overwinter or compost plants. November Move pots to a frost-free place if overwintering (garage, greenhouse). December Rest period. Check overwintering plants stay just barely moist.

Thar's a truly wonderful creation, Farway!
The only unrealistic part is the number of wee haggis scampering around, and the fact I can't play anything properly, let alone the pibroch.
As we know, haggis are rarely seen south of the Brecon Beacons, and any that become lost in migration would hide in long undergrowth in daylight hours. Even the skirl of the pipes wouldn't tempt them to break cover, though they might break wind and give their position away.
Nevertheless, it's a stirring birthday present, especially as I'm half Scottish, and as 2p suggests, it's been placed carefully in the Dusty archives to preserve it for posterity.
Good that you're almost mended, 2p.
While everything's sodden, those brighter spring days are just around the corner now, and we'll dry out, though not today! :'( More yellow doom triangles for rain, but our river here is 50cm down on yesterday, the afternoons are drawing out, and the drunkards' seaweed isn't showing any frost in the forthcoming week. Always an up-side Seeing your otters, I sometimes wonder how they cope with this weather when visibility in the water is zero and the currents are so strong. We humans have it easy! Derry Watkins at Special Plants sells gaura seed, wort, describing it as a 'short-lived perennial.' I'm not sure what the claims might be for the cloned named varieties, but it can be treated as an annual. I'm in favour of your Monday Meal Deal, and we might do something similar, when Mrs D's parents come to stay shortly.
On your land grab question, Bluey, I expect the farmer knows what Mr C is up to. He strikes me as a chap who'll bide his time and act when he's good and ready.
He and I need to have a conversation about that area, as there's a partly dead Wych Elm that will need to be given some 'maintenance' soonish. Regardless of whether he thinks that's a shared responsibility, he has the best access for machinery etc, so there will need to be some agreement, It's typical that elm is poor for firewood! Sadly, I think we're talking £1k +
Talking about tree cutting, here's a wee problem I'm thinking about:
Thankfully, no bums! Folks will have to imagine what's under the kilt!LessImpecunious said:Congrats on reaching seventy something Dusty, and better remove that pic quick before Farway and his cyberpal do something funny with it! (maybe invovling bums...)
PS. Well done on the fruit cage, taff.
