There we go. Switch off and on again 🙂
Help me to be a good secretary, and help me to have the memory of an elephant, or one at least three years long. Help me by some miracle to be able to do six things at once, answer four telephones at the same time while typing a letter that must go out today. And, when that letter doesn't get signed until tomorrow, give me the strength to keep from going over the brink of hysteria. Never let me lose patience, even when the boss has me searching the files for hours for data that is later discovered in his desk.
HELP ME to have the intelligence of a college professor; help me to understand and carry out all instructions without being given clear explanations. Let me know always just where the boss is, even though he left without telling me where he was going. And when the year ends, please let me have the foresight not to destroy records that will be asked for in a few weeks, even though I was told to destroy them all.

Greenhouse and sheds intact so far thanks, tho' it has got very blustery this evening...Much of last week was spent cutting back a blackthorn hedge which was beginning to overhang a narrow shady bit of garden with box bushes (also overgrown and cut back) and this afternoon I spotted this combo released from the shadows ...
Looked better IRL, not easy to photo, but hopefully should be able to pick out hellebore and snowdrops...
Would have fitted the suggestions for a black-and-white garden requested on an episode of GQT I listened to today while tidying in potting shed, which constituted most of my bit of gardening for the day,,,6 -
Black and white garden sounds dreadful Less 😲
Though I think I remember people doing such things half a century ago. Around here it's all black and white kitchens that someone is installing. Looks smart but I couldn't live with it.
Better than the all grey houses people have been doing.
What happened to personality and individuality?
Love the hellebore though. Think it's even blacker than mine.
Watching Gardens of the Rhine I now want to go and see them all. Like the one with a lake and jetty for swimming among the wild plants.
Dark, dismal and damp here. The washing is out for the 3rd day in a row with no sign of drying.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Less ,I think it’s always hard to photograph the dark petal plants, hellebores even harder cos they face the ground. Well done on finding hidden plants though, a few more look like they are spying their chance now too.
Yes they came for the giant appliances from my garage yesterday evening,so I’ve not had chance to tidy it up yet.
Today is cold and windy, as was yesterday goodness knows what the wind chill was but stood near the doors at work in many layers still felt like sitting in the freezer.
Ive asked BIL to take the 2 huge root balls to the tip next time he goes ,no way can I get those in the bin.
YBE the house escapades, must keep you amused at work, people can be so entitled, and of course they always know best.
2p the prayer can be slotted into most workplaces I think and definitely resonated with me too 😉
I need to think what goes in the cleared patches the shrubs have left. I fancy gaura, possibly persicaria and liatris but these change on the daily basis. I want some summer flowers that are easy to maintain, I know I can grow gaura from seed but don’t have much luck, so might wait to get plugs or a plant.
my bulbs are all poking their heads up, so looking forward to some spring colours.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.5 -
Morning all, on the International Day of Education. Apart from the fact I think these are made up, it almost sounds like a proper one

2p I've screenshotted (?) those prayers and the Critical Detector one and I'm for printing them out at work. They're funny because they're true
i was half expecting to see fairies in your pic Less, if they were gonna be anywhere it was there
Have you not seen Pulp Fiction Dusty? That's the first thing came to mind when Farway said Gimp Mask. I wonder if I've got room for a viburnum...?
Cool and breezy here, 5' and FL-1 and the wind will be gusting up to 30mph about bedtime. Grand drying entirely
Just for a change, here's a weather story from a different site - Trees could explode during 'catastrophic' US storm
Reading the comments he's apparently known for his extreme predictions
I'm in danger of doing some actual gardening today, well I'm tied to the house anyway to get through all the washing himself brought home :rolleyes:Honesty is the best poverty.6 -
Sunshine is back! A lot of muck down Dusty way, but OK here for nowGimp masks, I only knew because there was a spate of some geezer wearing one, down the West Country, and these ideas can spread
With recent sightings Ooop NorfYoungBlueEyes said:Did you get all those plants shifted Farway? Your 3ft penguin joke made me chortle, I'm taking that to work with me on Monday
Yes, plants are now with DD, who is up Londinium this weekend, so I expect they are still in the pots / bags, mind it's been tipping down the past few days, so couldn't realistically be planted anywayThen penguin joke is an oldie, but it has stuck in my bonce for years.Actually a B & W garden would suit penguins or Nuns, they could hideDustyevsky said:OT: I've covered the weather. Gardening today was perusing Lidl's seeds and buying 3 packs: Sugar Snap Peas, Beetroot, and a Yellow Dwarf Bean. P.S. it's also free postage weekend for T&M, Browns, Fothergill's and maybe some others, making me wonder if they're all the same thing!
Beat me to it, mind with the price of some seeds, your Lidl trip sounds better, even taking free P & P into accountI think Brown & Fothergill are the same, they do vary slightly, but basically the same stuff. If the sun keeps going, I may, like YBE, get out and fiddle with the garden. Not much, just tidy the dead stuff away from the emerging daffs mainly.Tempted to poke a couple of broad bean seeds into some pots at the frontWhen an eel bites your bum, that's a Moray4 -
Turned bright but breezy not sure of wind chill factor but must have been in the minuses 🥶 had a walk to b n q , got a couple of tierella sugar and spice and angel wings and 3 dianthus, from the half price half dead rack.
got back and had 2 hours outside planted those, and had a bit of a tidy of the garden and garage. Still going to see if I can declutter it but tbh it’s not too bad.Off out for tea, 2siblings birthdays on same day 👏🏻Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6 -

Reading the comments he's apparently known for his extreme predictionsI'm a Pulp Fiction virgin.
Mrs D would probably watch it, but I don't like strong violence in movies, or confrontation etc. IRL, I've learned to deal with difficulties by looking for long term solutions, rather than becoming stressed, angry, and wanting instant results. It takes time to weigh things up, and it's much better for your metabolism, but it doesn't make a great film!
I think an evergreen viburnum should fit into most gardens. They'll take heavy pruning, not demand much cosseting, and they'll come into bloom when everything else is conking-out. They root easily too. That long hedge began as about 20 cuttings, lined-out over a winter, so it cost nothing.
It's another long term solution; the result of having the 'Beast from the East' whipping across the veg plot unopposed! Of course, a better gardener would have predicted that would happen, eventually.
I'm pleased to see the US has dire weather predictions from the MSM too.
I spotted 'Polar Vortex' quickly, but who needs one of those when you might have exploding trees as clickbait? Ah, it turns out they won't actually explode.....rather like you won't suffer any dire consequences if you eat 14 eggs a week, but you have to read most of the article to be sure.
I agree, although my 'black' flowers are still a few days away from posing for the camera. If you're thinking of Gaura for prolific summer flowers, so am I.wort said:Less ,I think it’s always hard to photograph the dark petal plants, hellebores even harder cos they face the ground.
Somehow, we've never grown it.
Yes, we've had a LOT of rain, but it seems we've not been too badly impacted. I heard on the local radio the leaning tree we drove under earlier in the week fell and blocked half the main road. The rivers were also out in the fields in a few places, but it seems Ingrid was worst on the coast. Here's a short film of the trains battling through the storm at Dawlish.Farway said:Sunshine is back! They closed the line eventually!Back in 2004 DD2 and I stood on that bridge in the station during a similar storm.....until we and about 2 dozen locals were told the line was closing, and we had to leave. Then, 10 years later, the sea wall was breached. It took 2 months of repairs before trains could run there again.
It's a popular day.wort said:Off out for tea, 2siblings birthdays on same day 👏🏻
I was seventy-something-or-other today. We were due to go out for lunch, but cried-off, thanks to the weather.
Maybe tomorrow.

Morning all, Burn's Night tonight
Many happy returns Dusty :clinkingglasses: :cakewithcandles: :balloons: Hopefully you'll get out today for a nice pub lunch
Deffo don't watch Pulp Fiction then, it's full of violence and vengeance and people being very mean to each other and using bad language and all sorts. (It's great fun!) I'll look out for a viburnum then. Possibly a bit might fall in my pocket if I walk through the park slow enough...
Get a few gaura wort, they keep being mentioned
Have you got a park to walk through, or a Dead Plant Society at Morries? Is it fancy enough to make an appearance in your local oh-and-a-few-plants centre? Hope you all had a good night last night :clinkingglasses: :cakewithcandles: :balloons:
Hopefully you got more done in the garden than I did yesterday Farway, I did next to nowt. Cut some brown bits off some plants, got a picture of a rose in the sunshine, cut back my berry stalk things, saw a few things that I can't decide if they're dead or dormant, and then I came back in cos that wind was a bit keen :brrr: It was sunny for a few hours though, and I was glad to see it
OT raining, cool, windy. 5' FL-4, which I'd say is right. The crescent moon was lovely looking last night when I went to bed, it was a sort of peachy colour and resting on it's erse. There's something pleasing about it in that state.Honesty is the best poverty.6
