Awful weather - typical Brits talk

We've booked a last-minute holiday so we're off to a very warm and sunny North Yorkshire this morning
We'll be visiting York and Scarborough while we're away and seeing our eldest DD
I can't wait.
We had the 'three things' happen yesterday... DH walked into a road sign and cut his nose open (thankfully not bad enough for stitches), then he broke the lawnmower (he went over a !!!!!!! stone and the blade got bent) and I burnt the Quesedilla I was making for dinner... Hopefully that's it.
The weather forecast looks lovely where we're going, probably too hot for me at up to 27 degrees. Scorchio!!'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
Teapot is one of a teasetI painted when I had a shop studio. The rest was sold or broke.
Toaster, can't afford a retro radio though I'd like one.
Teacosy I made. Sunny start to the day. Eyes open one side, closed the other for evening 🙂
Not looking up any creepy bugs till later. It'll put me off my breakfast 😐
Dull and dry here. Cool which is fine as neighbour woke me up at silly o'clock and I have to have all the windows closed 😬
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on
The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

Dull & windy, wouldn't be surprised if it rained again, although according to V'sky the rain has cleared off to Sussex & Francetwopenny said:I thought it might be sweet cecillie
https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/11303/myrrhis-odorata/details
But I don't know how to tell the difference between that and all the others 🙂Looking them up, seems S Cecellie whiffs of aniseed, allegedly.Enjoy your break Down South PP, and seeing DD as well. Plenty of good photo ops in both places also.Gardening so far today is pay for another year of garden waste collection, £124.I suppose I could look on the bright side, PB win of £100 this month
, so nearly free bin collection, and my car tax is only £30. Swings & what names.
GW was at Hampton Court flower show, so never watched it.I went to HC flower show one year, awful, awful crowds, worse than Chelsea because everyone seemed to be pulling a shopping cart, so forever bumping into those.B Grove was OK, well I liked the Japanese style garden, not sure if I'd have patience but if I only win a minor million I may get my back garden landscaped on similar linesIf weather improves a tad, I'll carry on with apple pruningHere's my bullet plum tree, with languid clematis lolling over itEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens8 -
Ooh enjoy your break pp down here in England up there in Yorkshire
Scorchio is coming they all say, so you'll finally get warmed without the fire
The Three Things happening is absolutely a rule so you'll be fine now. Have a lemon-top for me when you get to Scarborough
Do you ever think of getting back into being arty/creative 2p? Maybe teaching classes or summat? Because your teapot is beautifulI'd love a retro radio too but I can't justify the spend while my old one is working fine
Was the blackie that reappeared your blackie do you think...?
Aha I can see what you mean now Farway, yep that plum would have to stay if it was my garden, just to hold the clematis
I agree re GW + BG. I don't know why I look at GW any more, and I liked the japanese woman on BG. I could do with a bit of her regularly tbh. Really I could do with her coming here and exactly recreating her garden actually. Anyone else think they might be easing her in to a slot, cos how many other 'normal gardens people' have been shown repeatedly.... Good of the guvmint to pay for your bin collection eh, it won’t stick in your craw so much when they don’t soddin collect it!OT cool here at 10’c. High will be 22’, possibly, and sunny all day. They say.
Oh and that shipbag cat nearly came to an end yesterday. He took a hopeful leap at a wee bird that was going up to my bird feeder but got startled by a pigeon going the other way. He didn't catch either bird, but did bring down half my rasp farmI told him if I caught him dong it again I'd pull his neck for him and Lovely Neighbour heard me
So now I'm hoping nothing untoward happens to him or I'll be blamed for it *sigh* He looked at me like he knew that, too. Shipbag.
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.8 -
YBE I was supposed to be using the correct acid feed, and soil, I did wonder about putting it in my garden soil because acid lovers seem to like it. But I’ve never tested the soil. The feed was from wilko . Soil possibly B and Q .
I think white may be a different strain? Dusty may know better. It’s usually the big leaf variety that bloom pink or blue. Next door have white in the soil and it’s stayed white.
Dusty that’s a lovely blue one.
2p at least the sitooterie is shady 😂
washer just finished so going to peg out , got a nail appointment this morning, getting wedding ready for Friday.
Today is breezy around 17 forcast, it rained overnight last couple of nights too.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6 -
Back to sun & warm today, and probably back to watering as well.I looked on V'sky last night to see if any rain due here, it wasn't, but did spot a huge blob of rain over PP holiday spot oop in Yorkshire, be typical, drives down to get drenched.Ta Ra, I think I've got courgettes, maybe this weekend? I put two in tubs near D Poo border, they seem to like it there, possibly the whiff? Or more likely the open sunny aspect.Normally my courgettes rot, hence my whoopOf course my tomatoes are the problem this year, now I have courgettes I've no toms. Kills any HM ratatouille ideas I may have.Sods Law, while some of my pampered toms are poor, due to compost, I found one popped up in Dog Poo border
. Looks a lovely healthy dark green as well. Don't think there's time to fruit, but I'll keep my eye on it.
The ones I grew from IOW yellow cherry tom plum seeds are proving why saving seeds may be a waste of space. The vine is over six feet tall, lots of flowers up the top, and not setting. No doubt it's parent was a tall greenhouse one.My Bishop dahlia has settled into a new large pot, and even some dwarf ones are growing. How's your Bishop kids coming on Dusty?Next visit to Morries I want to get another big / blowsy potted dahlia, to go at the front and loom over the passers-byCamera day today, I have a new large lily opened, sort of raspberry ripple, but with hint of yellow Cornish cream in there, lovely scent as well, if air is warm & still enoughEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens7 -

Dusty that’s a lovely blue one.Dusty doesn't know much about hydrangeas. We got most of ours from a lovely man, John Phillips, who gardened on acres of neutral greensand, creating a ''Himalayan' valley with many varieties. We walked through this, and he cut lumps off various cultivars, describing each as we went, but we couldn't keep up.Back at home, we had 3 carrier bags full of cuttings, and no idea what they were!
What we have now is what's left of those.Enjoy your hols pp. I hope getting there is easier than reaching the local big town was for me yesterday. I was held up by the start of the hay cut here, and then some telecoms cowboys technicians showed up and needed help locating access points to the existing underground cable network. One of the nearby numpties had actually built a garden feature over one, so it was with great joy I heard that would have to be demolished!I didn't know about that, but by coincidence we'd traced some wire runs last year when we were digging the new entrance.
I won't go into the journey to the town, except to say the highway repairs' diversionary signs were 'backzeevore,' and chaos in a single track country lane ensued.I escaped with only 20 minutes delay. Others weren't so lucky.
Sunny and breezy, yesterday and today, with no sign of the heatwave to come yet. I'm madly cutting grass for us and the neighbour, just in case.....None of us will be out there if it goes to 25c, let alone 30!My photo today is of a really nice looking plant you shouldn't bother with. It flowered for a week, and that might be an exaggeration!Gotta go....I'll speak of Bishop's progeny later."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Thanks wort
I'll see how they get on in the pots they came in, then worry about acid when they want repotting. I don't think I have acid soil for I've already had an azalea and other stuff die on me. Make sure to take lots of ice-packs on Friday (unless you're in a church), it's to be scorchioo again!
Woohoo for courgettes but booo to the toms Farway. Sod's enforcing his Law here too. I planted sunflowers in tubs and along the sunny fence and they're choosing not to grow. I've various seeds fallen out of the bird feeder and one of them is a sunflower - healthy great thing it is too. You'd wonder why we bother *shrug* Looking forward to lily and dahlia pics
Wow - 3 carrier bags of cuttings DustyGood of your neighbours to be so relentlessly entertaining, as long as they don't find out you sort of knew about their wires
Your journey sounds a bit of a nightmare though. Have you got the "Waze" app on your phone? I always use that when I'm doing long distances but also sometimes just to make sure I'm not running into any closed roads etc when I'm tootling round here. Can recommend. Does your Bowman's Root have a delicious creamy smell? It looks like it should do
Nowt occurring here. Weeding done, birds fed, work is really busy but nothing exciting happening. Those people still aren't in 'their' house so god knows where they've gone. I suspect they're in a hotel or AirB+B, no matter if it's "undignified". The weathermen were right yesterday, all of them. We did have a strong cool breeze, and sun and clouds, and the temp was just lovely. Today they've given 25', feels like 22, and the breeze is calming. I think we might miss the worst of the heat at the weekend though, you suvveners are keeping it #ThanksStFiacreI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.8 -

Our neighbours' management were asked about the routes of underground telecoms, water etc long before we dug out the hedge. They didn't deign to reply, mainly because they didn't know, but also because it would be 'helping' us. They'd have been the ones cut off if we'd not taken the care and precautions, but the management bods consistently operate at that level of awareness. They already know we've thoroughly investigated everything here; pipes, wires, title documents, rights of way, boundaries, history etc. After all, they made it necessary.
There are not many apps on the Dusty phone, just the basics for parking etc. I did look at the local authority's roadworks map before leaving, but it seems this work was a surprise to them too! The main road was open for my return, but the only resurfacing done was miles from the diversion.Don't know about the scent of Bowman's root or why bowmen needed it, but it's been disappointing, despite looking good for a short time. The Katy Perry of the flower world.Looks like the sun will break through here soon, giving us an uncomfortable 24c, but drying the hay out quickly. This is what it looked like when freshly cut on Monday:
And guess who turned-up, looking for injured or disorientated small creatures, as soon as the cutters had passed! Our partner farmer says it's the best hay we've grown for some time. I'm not so sure, but it's OK.I made my own hay, of sorts, yesterday. While temperatures were still moderate, Approx 1.75 acres of lawns grass at friends' house and here were cut. Friends' mower has broken, so theirs was more than the usual half acre.Saddle sore today!
We also put up the 30' marquee tent thing for our family event yesterday evening. Mrs Dusty may have other ideas, but I think it will make a great shade house for a couple of days, keeping our potted plants from roasting.Among those are the ex-Bishop dahlias, which I was disappointed with at first, because their flowers were facing downwards on droopy stems. They're now looking up more, so maybe I was too hasty."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity7 -
By the way, have you folks seen this?
"The exact date for the implementation of new bin rules in England, which will see all households equipped with four separate containers, has been disclosed. The new regulations, set to be enforced from April 1 next year, include a separate weekly collection for food waste from households.
Under the new default bin requirements, households and workplaces will need separate containers for residual (non-recyclable) waste, food waste (which can be mixed with garden waste if suitable), paper and card, and all other dry recyclable materials such as plastic, metal and glass. The type of containers may range from bags and bins to stackable boxes."
Daily Mirror. (Other low quality news sources are available.)
The bolded part suggests some garden waste will be accepted 'free'We already do the above. The food waste container is quite small, but I still add a few weeds to fill it up a bit!"There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity7
