Oh and a pic. This only took me 19 goes 😃
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.8 -

AI can probably plan a new estate of houses in many ways: lowest cost, maximised sunlight, highest degree of privacy, most accessibility etc, and then combine results to give a 'best fit' scenario, all in a few minutes. One day, maybe, but surely no robothatchers for some time yet!

I'm loving your wee silver birch, pp. They do grow satisfyingly fast and make few demands, being tough enough for harsh environments. Thy don't steal too much light, either. It's obviously hydrangea season, with wort and WM weighing in with some pink beauties. I have some bright blue examples on our very acid soil here, so I'll have to grab a picture of the one that looks as if it's a plastic fake! Every year it fights with other less choice plants in the front hedge and manages to come out on top.Another very warm day in prospect here, before some welcome rain comes in from the Atlantic tomorrow. In view of that, I've cancelled this week's walk. It won't matter, because it's all going on in SW19, apparently, with young men disporting themselves energetically, and grunting now and again. Fair enough!Mrs Dusty and I had run out of so many comestibles yesterday, we took a quick evening trip to civilisation, picking-up fish & chips to scoff on the way home. We were just in time to admire this rural view in the local rolling hills, best appreciated as shadows lengthen. If you click to enlarge, you'll see the tractor working in the middle distance, collecting the trailers loaded with hay bales. That would have been more restful if our own hay had been cut! However, on arriving home, our partner farmer rang to reassure us, we've not been forgotten.
If Countryfile says next week's OK.....

Fab photo YBE 😀persistence paid off , look at those gossamer wings.
Farway your photos are much better than those in the video. How’s dog poor border doing?I split the bleeding heart, I possibly could have gotten 3 but wasn’t sure where to put another. Was a quick job, so will check it today. I’m off and waiting in for a parcel. Washer is on, it’s overcast and 17 due today. Need to colour my hair too. Roots need doing before a wedding next week.
Work all this weekend then appointments next week so not sure when I’ll do more gardening.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.7 -
Wow ybe that is an excellent photo, worthy to include in a This is a Flying Thing example book! Lookit the wings! And the body! It's a marvel.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi6

More sun & blue sky, cooler though so not as sticky, managed to sleep a few hours at last night, but still up & giving weekly feed to the front pots by eight.wort said:Fab photo YBE 😀persistence paid off , look at those gossamer wings.

And noticed the recently planted Morries Blanket Flower has buds on it.Plus Rozanne is in there flowering. Hardly room for a dog bum now.Dustyevsky said:-taff said:Dusty someone's got to embrace the siesta...won't be long before we're doing as the mediterraneans do and have the afternoon off and it can't come soon enough :Suddenly, having manual skills looks attractive again. He is also very enthusiastic and while I do know a lot fo the stuff he talks about, I am also learning some bits too, which is always nice.I was watching some other chap yesterday, a Geordie, his allotment had burned down, but it was more small holding, chickens etc, than what i'd call allotment. A disaster though.
I'd do the same, given enough noughtsYoungBlueEyes said:Which is understandable, but for that many noughts I'd have let them in #MoreMoneyThanSense. Apparently AirB+B's are "for the undignified"
Did you get to your grapes and goosegogs then Farway? Sod's law the gogs will be full after the rain to the point of splitting, and the grapes will just be hanging there watching themI hardly think you need photography help, yours are consistantly belters
Goosegogs have shrivelled even more, ripe and tasty but titchy. Grapes, not one grape this year, zero, zilch, etc despite this being ideal weather for the blighter.I did manage to prune some of my apples, and some grape, plus cut back some brambles, and, Ta Ra, my first ripe blackberry, that tasted just like it shouldI had to stop because I came over light-headed, with the sun, heat & blood pressure, and didn't want to finish up toppled in the borderOver the next few days, if it cools a bit, I'll carry on pruningNow, some food pics, at last I have tomatoes setting, reliable, for me, Balcony Yellow.
I've also got a sweet pepper, which I will transplant into the basket where one of my sickly toms is looking northwards
Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens7 -
Brilliant pic, YBE, you must have been so chuffed to capture that, even if it did take 19 goes - that was one very obliging beastie
The job hunt is on-going - no interviews yet, which is probably just as well at the moment, given the state of my Yetiness.
The meteor was captured on folk's CCTVs, but lots of people actually saw it as well, which makes me wonder what they were doing up at that time of the morning
Farway, I think I could be classed as a hairy poppy, at least until I get my hair cut (an appointment has been arranged).
I forgot to say about wort and W_M's hydrangeas - I love them because they're such a showy plant. I like the colour of the one in W_M's second pic. We have a blue one here, but it's just a stick at the moment, I think it's usually out in October??
What a stunning view, DustyLast night's Gone Fishing was in Devon - they were fishing off a stony beach and it was just idyllic. I can't remember what fish they were after - I usually just sit watching the programme with a daft smile on my face. We've started watching old episodes of The Fast Show now, which are still quite funny at times, Paul Whitehouse is so talented. And of course that programme is where 'Scorchio' came from, with the late Caroline Aherne.
It's certainly not scorchio weather here - It's hot chocolate weather - we had really heavy rain earlier (when I was out shopping) so big puddles everywhere and it feels cold. I'm eyeing up the fire being on tonight...'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
I'll start with apologies because I seem to have missed posts even though I thought I was reading them all 🥴
Poppy shame your wizzyness is still hanging around. Do you think the hot spells are not helping?
Haven't got Dusty's clouds, still hot and dry here and everyone is suffering now, not just the gardens.
Farway great news on the tomatoes 🙂
I tried to thin out my apples but as I turned my back more dropped off! Not worried though because I never get to eat them.
Hope the workers get some downtime this weekend.
I've fixed the fountain twice and now found a way to water my plants
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

We haven't had any hot spells lately, twopenny, just relentless rain
It's 17.8 degrees in the front room and I'm sat here with a big cardigan on feeling absolutely freezing. I keep looking at the fire and am honestly thinking of getting it set up and lit. Wet and windy outside and it's making me feel even colder.
I made a very nice salsa to go with dinner tonight, using my home grown tomatoes. A taste of summer, at least...

Ooo you must have our rain Poppy.
Because we've had none to speak of for months.
What a lovely fire! I think you're right.
I have a slight problem.
There's a freezing breeze coming through the open door and I'm in a stroppy tee shirt but - there's a blackbird who's been sitting still on the bird table and now under a shrub not moving and it's been an hour now.
I don't know what's wrong.
I can't close the door or go out so I'm wrapped in a blanket.
I've thrown out some sausage (I lack worms) but it's too close to the door.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
