Ok gb no pics but can we expect to be regaled with tails of nawtiness/cuteness etc *vigorous nodding*
Hope you suvvener ones have battened/glued/nailed down the hatches, with them rivets like wot Billy Connolly used to make...
Look at 'your' tuffity fluffity puppy 2pEven comes with his own backpack to make rescuing him easier
I wouldn't say soft touch, I'd say dogs know dog people no matter where you are in the world
I'd give me eye teeth to be on that little street now, really I would... All foreign photos happily accepted
Puppy cuttings! I'm pleased I came back on now, that's made mysmile Farway
A few hairs poked into a cushion, laid in front of the fire?
So other than power cuts are we all alright then? The wind and rain are picking up here now, it's not been so bad up 'til about an hour again really. I wanted to check the wind speed earlier but the drunkards have finally had the good grace to admit defeat
Flouncy poppet compo Blue Swift fund might not be temptation enough. Apparently we're only paid 9-5 but it's an unwritten rule that in reality it's 8-6 ish. Hmmm. When office manager (not Big Boss Man) mentioned it on my way out the door on Friday I said I'll happily do extra hours and do you want to amend my contract? No the contract stands... Well if you want more you can pay me for it cos I ain't giving it away.... tumbleweed So the Swift has been mentally upgraded to a Golf, in that lovely pale silvery blue they doWe'll see.
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.7 -
Glad everyone appears to be okay. Our internet went off a couple of times earlier, but that's all. We had a weird orange sky round about sunset time, a bit stormy looking, but that's mostly gone now, just a wee tinge of colour left. I've completed my cat-sitting duties for the day, so the fire is on, the candles lit and the Christmas tree is twinkling away
Here's a pic of my new pineapple plant - I love it

Disaster has struck my greenhouse, blasted polycarb sheets I put in a few years ago to replace some of the standard glazing which kept getting blown out and broken (only three, full height, so equivalent to two glass sheets), have blown out (not an uncommon happening, as they are useless since they flex in the wind and so are impossible to hold firmly in place). However, much worse, accompanied by two of the glass roof sheets! which has never happened before :sI Managed to replace one of the polycarbs on the windward side during a lull in the wind, and fingers crossed holding so far, hoping that any wind that gets in will now just blow straight out of the remaining gaps, rather than try to get out elsewhere and take more glass with it... I had battened down its hatches (wedged door firmly shut with concrete block to stop it being blown open) and was fairly hopeful, as most of our strongest winds over recent years have been from the S/SW where the GH is sheltered by a big hedge, so haven't had any major outages for a while, but the wind swung (backed or veered, can never remember which) round to W/NW where there is little between greenhouse and Cambrian mountains...On the plus side, all contents (big pots and containers with winter salad-type stuff) appeared unharmed, not that I was looking very closely before beating hasty retreat...Hope others are surviving better!

I love the idea of growing your own puppy..I would probably accidentally grow far too many thoughAnd aww to puppies, that one is so cute, I would feel awful about leaving it. I can't even watch fb reels any more where they rescue kittens I feel so bad for them. And like humans a little less.....Dusty, thanks to google lens and much searching I have discovered it's a pot hanger for hanging your pot over a fire and adjusting up or down via the rings to move it closer or further away from the fire and may or may not be called a trammel hook, a crook or a cooking chain. I feel better now I know what it is. Not a bad guess, if I ever build a smoker I'm sure I can use it in that
So now I can wax it with impunity, it's not a precious object
Yeah, working in a place other than where you live is not great and I agree with you, I especially agree with not doing what people think is accepted but is just stealing your time and energy. I have a friend who does extra for free because she keeps saying, oh but they give me a bonus...yeah, like that makes a difference when you're working an extra week every month....fork that....how about a nice trike instead? Kinda like a car but less metal \m/pp, got some sickles somewhere too...did I mention I like knives? and sharp things. Sharp things of vintage are also very pleasingI love you have your pineapple in a pineapple pot too
Oh no Less! Stay away from potential slicey glass blowing around, just check when it's safe!Absolute gale here, gazebo is totally ruined, I've only just started laying the slabs yesterday to put the shed on [ not properly with cement, just on compacted sand type stuff] and it's way too yuk to attempt putting the shed up. I would say, be safe, huddle in the house and worry about things in the aftermath, it's not worth risking limbs or life...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi7 -
pink_poppy said:Hope Dusty et al are all okay - I looked at Barnstaple weather and it's 70+mph at the moment
No more 70s in the forecasts, and no more power outages, I'm pleased to say. Barnstaple often has the wind travelling up the estuary, so it can be just as bad as we are up here at 500'. Walking friend had her bench go walkabout, but no other mischief in her coastal garden. Here, the wheelie bin, fell over and looked like it was rocket powered once the wind got inside!
Happily, it was empty.
twopenny said:Dusty what happens to the chickens in this weather? Presumably they can't be let out or they'd blow away.We keep the food and water in there, so it's not accessible to other birds. They only go into the hen house by day to eat, drink, and lay eggs.
It's been a boring day, but I'm glad because exciting might have been unpleasant!DD made it to work by car this morning and returned before dark. There were 3 trees down en-route, but someone had cut through them and traffic was able to get past OK.
No photos taken today, so here's the Town Band, which might be playing something calm and relaxing, or you could flip back a couple of posts to 2p's doggy friend, who looks pretty serene. By the way, 2p, what was the answer to your puzzle about the painted stem trees?A silver blue Golf Bluey? There's upmarket! Always liked the cabins, and they do a tall model called the Plus for fatties older or more robust individuals.....on second thoughts, I'll take an Audi A3!"There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Less, sorry to hear about the greenhouse. But at least it's fixable and you're still safe to fix it.Painted trees....I have no idea. But it made me chuckle when I asked him what sort of trees they were and he said 'emulsion'Taff now you say about that gadget it's obvious and I've seen them before. But I couldn't guess.Aw Dusty that's clever thing to do for the hens.So while I'm not enjoying being penned in as I thought it would be I'm trawling my photos for dogs....This is Shadow who, when we were at the top of India 3 mates and I decided to break free from the lodge and walk down the river for a ciggie and the owner of the camp insisted his pooch came with us for protection. We all wanted to take him home with us but he was devoted to his owner and even went with strangers when told to.How do I rotate this!!!!!!!

What an alert-looking and handsome dog!
But why did you have to go to the river to smoke? Was it a very strict sort of establishment?Must’ve cross-posted or not refreshed, so missed Less and taff's posts. Sorry to hear about your greenhouse Less. At one stage, I thought the wind might break the sliding doors on the west end of the polytunnel similarly. They bent inwards, but held. It's my fault for not installing the drop bolts.taff, I suppose it's obvious the trammel would have been used much more often for pots than for smoking meat. I don't know what set me off down the smoking route!
It's become quite noisy out there again now, but imbibers say, "Only in the fifties, nothing to worry about.""There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity8 -
Oh I think we just wanted away from the group and being herded. It was beautiful down there. We had a colonial type of cocktails and nibbles spread out on tables on the sand one evening.Yes the weather here seems little different. 'Orrible! Not much sign of it clearing up for a week according to the forcast. My Kale, only about 18" or less has got blown out of the sodden ground and the Broccoli plants that grew tall because of the lack of light all autumn are leaning distinctly. But it's so wet there's not much point in going out and healing them in again. And yes, I did stake them but the sodden ground also releases stakes if they are under pressure.

Yay, I've got my Wordiply mojo back - rare long word x 2 with mine being one letter more than their longest word, although to be fair the letters were easier this morning
Sorry to hear about your greenhouse, Less. Do you not rate the polycarbonate?? I was half thinking about getting a polycarbonate one instead of glass (that's if I ever get one). Hopefully you can get it fixed when the wind dies down.
taff, the pineapple plant came in the pineapple pot - Lidl £9.99.
Glad your wind died down, Dusty, with no damage. I looked at the Barnstaple forecast because I know you've mentioned it before so figured it was within a few miles. Btw, the image of the rocket powered bin made me laugh out loud
That's a beautiful photo, twopenny, the scenery looks stunning. Well done to Shadow for providing protection
YBE, my very first car was a red Golf.
OT - weather looks to be okay today and I'm even thinking of hanging some washing outside. Sunrise isn't until 8,43am though and sunset is at 15.45pm, so not many hours of daylight...'A watched potato will never chit'...7
