Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Glad you had a good (and warm) time FarwayI'm only clocking in because it looks lonely around here.........nothing to say about the garden as it's still freezing and windy.Going to wrap up and try and wash the filth off the car and windows later. That's some lot of sand, dirt, grit and something greasy that's fogged up the car mirrors.I do have to prune back my lovely Jasmine, the one that's flourishing (raises eyes) of course it's planted among a rose and massive lavender bush that was a cutting gone mad.Whether I'll have time before it gets dark or I freeze who knows. Was looking in our farmers shop for fleece lined trews but seems they aren't stocked now. In fact a fleece lined boiler suit is really what'[s needed
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Ooh, it's cold today. Minus 6 in the car this morning and it took ages for DH to defrost the car.
My hot chocolate is out for delivery - yay, I need hot choc in this weather. I was naughty and bought some Baileys squirty cream - I'll probably put a slug of actual Baileys in the hot choc as well, so the squirty cream is just a bit of extra naughtiness
Was it a cheese or fruit scone, Farway?? I hope you slathered lots of butter on itI'm the same with daffs - much prefer the dwarf type.
Brr, rather you than me washing windows and pruning Jasmine in this weather, twopenny. I hope you've got something warm and alcoholic for when you've finished.
It's a beautiful sunny day here - I saw this 'Saltire' in the sky earlier...
Apologies for the HUGE pic - I don't know why it's that big
Ps M&S sell 'cosy' jeggings with a soft lining, twopenny, would they be any good?? They're probably not as warm as fleece lined troosers though. I managed to get a thermal long sleeved top from M&S that you mentioned a while back - I should really be wearing it today...'A watched potato will never chit'...7 -
I've recently bought sainsbury's thermals, and they compare well (so far) to the M&S ones.5

Useful to know Greenbee. Are they cheaper? It's a 60mile round trip to Sainsburys with expensive parking/driving though massed traffic or a dismal P&R. But I do have to go there for a cheese I like if I'm up there.M&S much the same, but I can get delivery. Disappointed in the colour of the top I bought. Lovely mint green online but sludge leaf green on arrival Still, it's the warmth that counts.Poppy I hope you like the chocolate. I'm worried because his stuff is the real deal with very strong chocolate flavour. The bars you have to nibble and suck a small bit and it's a flavour burst.......as opposed to milk choc which is all sugar. And yes, leggings and top thermal under fleece with a fleece jacket
. I'm addicted to them they are so comfy and warm
But thanks for reminding me. I'm going for a swim and sauna and must remove them at home because I'll never get into them while damp.
But there's mulled wine and mince pies at the pool going freeWindows and car done. I'm reluctant to trim the jasmine as it's so happy but it does need moving as soon as suitable. Its from a cutting from my Great Grandmothers house, grew over her door.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

It was cheese, with dash of herbs, butter slathered of course, but had to soften it on the tea pot first. Why do café's put all their butter pats in the fridge in winter? Is it part of the Master Chef's course? All this hot choc talk, next on my list is a cup of same, Cadbury's oneBut, ordered the posh one from Amazon, I'll give it a go, when I think of it a packet is not much more than a cup of HC in Mark'sI'll add a pint of Jersey gold top to the milkman list, and I'm all set for early Christmas. My Christmas cactus is nearly ready, try for a photo later this week, assuming battery not flattwopenny said:I'm reluctant to trim the jasmine as it's so happy but it does need moving as soon as suitable. Its from a cutting from my Great Grandmothers house, grew over her door.Have you tried cuttings from it? There you are. Just the job at this time of year! Fleecy onesie.
No Club Christmas Lunch for us today. The venue was still without power and cancelled us yesterday evening. So, I've been repairing fences snapped in the gales and that kind of thing. Whacking-in new posts keeps one warm, but otherwise it's nippy out there and still rather breezy. Only an hour of daylight, so I must whizz.Catch you later.. hopefully.

No cuttings so far but I do have another that's growing but not so flourishing Farway.Dusty those things are heavenly. Think there's one in the carity shop and I was tempted. But I have them in 2 parts which makes life a lot easier
Not as pretty though. Just increadiblily warm and comfortable.
No repairing here yet. It's still blowing and cold. So many big branches of trees came down, mainly one type of fir.Scots Pine I think. Bit scarey seeing the massive branches just torn away. Good pickings on the enormous pine cones if someone was so inclined.Cheese and chive scone my favourite. They used to do them with local chutneys locally, amazing. But due to cuts they've stopped the chutney and it's a bit poor without sadly.Loads of power cuts here. I'm looking at trawling the area to get a photocopy. I think most around here are not too bad as they have log burners but a lady I spoke to said the children would be going to school 'manky' tomorrowI can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Thanks for the thermals info, greenbee. Sadly, we don't have a Sainsbury either - I'm not sure where the nearest one is tbh, but DH's mum lives near one so he can always pop in when he's visiting. I actually bought a similar thermal top to the M&S one in Lidl this afternoon. It's in a box and I haven't opened it yet, but for £3.99 I thought it was worth a punt. They also had leggings and other thermal stuff. I bought some gingerbread mulled wine from there too, hoping that will warm me up
I'm sure Farway and I will like the hot chocolate, twopennyI've had an email today to say something is being delivered tomorrow, so fingers crossed it's the hot choc. It's either that or a Bob Mortimer book. Did you go for the 250g hot chocolate, Farway?? That's the one I've ordered.
Cheese scones are my favourite. I never thought to add 'erbs, it's usually cayenne pepper for a bit of a kick. I love cheese & chive scones too, twopenny. I made them once with my youngest DD and the method was basically everything mixed up on the kitchen surface, rather than in a bowl then cut into squares rather than rounds. They were absolutely delicious and I've been meaning to make them again ever since.
I know what you mean about getting clothes on after you've been swimming. I must admit I take some talcum powder with me now (preferably not the one with arsenic as an ingredient!!) and it makes things much easier to get on
Love that onesie, Dusty, I can just see you in that when you're going to let the hens outTalking of which, Aldi had some nice hen toys this morning, but they were meant for dogs, which I thought was a bit weird.
We had a beautiful sunset tonight, but it's still bitterly cold.'A watched potato will never chit'...5 -
Tonight's sunset (taken from a moving car so it's a bit fuzzy)'A watched potato will never chit'...7 -

There's more to do, but not as urgent. I had a chat with our farmer partner yesterday, who 'hopes' to mend the main fences and put sheep up here in the New Year. Now I'll have to ID all the broken posts and mark them. There could easily be 70+, so banging new ones in by hand would be out of my league!
We've had power cuts on and off through the day, including one while we were having dinner tonight. It's the repairs nearby. I've just had a text to say these are completed, so back to normal.....about one a week!
Apparently, I'm so ancient, I qualify as one of their priority customers these days.

There, the boats are all out of the water now and the area around the pontoons is iced-over.
Speaking of iced, here's what happened to our Japanese water iris when they became confused about the season a few weeks ago!
