I just get a black screen...
I expect that's because you're a Goth.Seriously, the link works for me, but it may be a security thing, so here's a different link to the place you should have seen:As for your mystery object, my first inclination is to call it a cordwangle for fossicking your groats, and link to Rambling Sid Rumpo. However, I'll be serious and say it could be for hanging up meat for smoking it in a wide old-fashioned chimney. The small 'hooks' are captive, but the rings would enable some fine up/down adjustment. A larger rise/fall might come from using/not using the middle length of iron. The square ended hook could go over whatever was used as a support, like a thick iron bar within the chimney. That's all pure guesswork, though.
Just looked outside. Not much happening storm-wise yet, but I see 2p has a RED warning for wind!"There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity7 -
Indeed which was a surprise.I don't watch the storm warning news, just something that was said on another forum. So far I've laid the garden furniture down, propped two large pots together and bought my fancy bay tree into the porch - because they are in the north east part.I lost 3 very large pots back along and it cost a fortune to replace. They are on offer at the GC now so these will probably survive.Quite mild, spotty rain and the occasional puff of wind.Sea looks normal, birds haven't been feeding madly in fact not in the garden much and the wild fowl behaving as normal so that's not a sign of storm but who knows.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Morning all. Jeez that was one big catchup!
No gardening here, and the weather is ...ummm.... all over the place really. We've had desperate rain (just as I finished work on Thurs), and some lovely sunshine. It's been c-o-l-d and mild, windy and still. You name it we've had it. Worse to come, they say.
I think I'm over the excitement of going back to work. They seem to want a lot from you for not a while lot of money... and I miss talking to you animals in the mornings#NotLovingIt. 3 month probation period though, so will reevaluate then. And me house is a midden, so that's today's job. I need to get up to mum+dad and give them a titivate and sort their flowers out cos I'm not sure I'll get again before Christmas. 2 weeks on Wednesday it is and I've nowt done! And my garden is more 'utter despair' than tired tbh.
And there's no pictures of puppies on this thread *side eye at gb*
OT the rain has stopped, but only to draw breath. And have yous seen the pressure for Mon and Tues next week(if the drunkards are to be believed....) I've not seen it that high for a looong time
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.7 -
Glad you're surviving work YBE. Yes, they do tend to want a lot for the money nowadays, but just keep thinking about the plants you can spend it on
No puppy pics as a. he's a black lab so just looks like a black blob in most photos and b. they would be identifying and I don't really want people who don't already know who I am to find outHe's being very good - waits for his food until I tell him he can eat it, sits, fetches, knows which is his bed and which his basked (mostly). Not so good at 'stay' yet, terrible on the lead as he wanders everywhere, reasonable recall but that's something we need to work on with a whistle. Does get a bit bored while I'm working, but copes.
He is now allowed out of the pen more, and into the living room - but until he gets the hang of staying in his basket (and TBH until he's through the chewing phase) he has to go in the pen if we're not in the room with him as unfortunately he has discovered that he fits through the cat door in the baby gate...6 -
I'm having trouble posting because leccy is on and off.....lots! Lost 2 posts already!Just reporting nothing major amiss here ...so far.
Hope 2p and Less are OK.
Don't let the stewards behind the bar wear you down, Bluey."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity7 -
Hope Dusty et al are all okay - I looked at Barnstaple weather and it's 70+mph at the moment
taff and wort, I do Wordle as well as Wordiply - both a bit tricky this morning.
Aw, YBE, we do miss you on here. Keep your eyes on the blue Suzuki Swift prize and hopefully that'll help you get through the days.
twopenny, I love Wallace & Gromit - I've bought my DD's boyfriend a pair of W&G socks for Christmas
taff, that's an interesting 'whatever Dusty said it was'. I like old tools as well - I've got a wooden planer in the garage - just a big hunk of wood with a blade, but I love it and quite often pick it up to admire it
greenbee, sounds like you're having fun and games with puppy
I did a selfie video last night of what happens when I lay down - turns out I have nystagmus as part of the BPPV. Honestly, I'm falling to bits...
OT - it's only 40+mph winds here at the moment. The loch is looking very choppy and I saw waves earlier on, which we don't normally get. Snow on the tops too. Stay warm and safe everyone.'A watched potato will never chit'...7 -
Glad everyone is ok so far.Dusty what happens to the chickens in this weather? Presumably they can't be let out or they'd blow away. It's really wild and woolly here! So far, only bird table fell across a bit of topiary but I think it will be ok. Went out earlier and took down some rampant jasmine that was tied to neighbours fence. Newish fence but it's wobbling. My little trellis panels blew out, tied on with string! I've been meaning to put them on properly - nows my chanceOne lone blackbird came to the garden looking for food. Think it worked out where it had fallen. My pet crow I heard calling but not in his perch obvs.Instead of getting better about now it's definitely worse. Stuff, grit, gravel being hurled against the window. says 8c still but it's very much colder coming direct off the sea right inland.Everything charged and loads of books and videos so entertainment. Baileys, whisky and chocolate in so that covers it.Ooops, power went briefly, darn internet down. But frankly that's the norm around here. The slightest thing and it pops.Bluey you want a puppy pic? And you asked about my travels.....on a day like this I think alterantive photos could be allowedThis was restaurant in Cairo and this little guy settled himself by my chair. Guess I'm seen as a soft touch wherever in the world!Really should get around to cleaning instead of just lolling around. Though I have got through some mending etc.

Wind and rain ongoing now, but miraculously no power outages yet (touches head)... Our Xmas tree carols have been moved to tomorrow, when we're forecast only 50mph gusts, and feels like just above freezing, so pretty much normal...7

Very windy and wet, as expected, the howling in tree tops type of wind. So far, all wheelie bins remaining upright.Nothing to report on gardening, the hyacinths still need potting upPostie delivered my USB hub thingy, for the external photo drive. Being early December, pouring rain & gale, he was still in regulation Postie round shorts.Which may be a good idea, at least not soaking wet trouser legsGlad everyone is OK,'cept for leccyThat puppy 2P, didn't fit it your handbag then? Good job we can't take puppy cuttings, grab a few hairs and grow a puppy. Now I have USB hub thing my gardening will be indoors, sorting photos onto the new hard drive, a long term project I thinkOff to DS AM tomorrow, so will be late. Probably be a GC cuppa with DS so can check Christmas tat levelsEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens8
