Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Taff I too trained in art and such. I remember most of us were unimpressed by modern stuff.Poppy I'm now a huge fan of walking poles. Might that help? They keep you balanced and straight as you walk.Dusty unless you're up for getting up at the crack of dawn to take Blueys place I don't think there are any takers at the mo.Grey here and more grey to come aparantly. 5c but south wind and wet ground so could be worse, could be better.I did wonder about getting into the garden for the day. Deviating by going to a garden centre for a drive is off while Christmas is in it's 4th month as it's all about decorations. This one might have the beast of Exmoor in it.............OK so there are still some things flowering surprisingly. I saw this the other day outside a seaside challet. No scent to the Evenign Primrose without the warmth though.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Weather is miserable here - wet and windy, with the wind howling through somewhere in the kitchen window!
Cats have put in a complaint about the weather. Dog has put in a complaint about me not wanting to go for a walk in this weather!
I hope YBE is surviving the new job.8 -
-taff said:I liked your peephole view of the house...I did a fine art degree and I am absolutely clueless about most modern art, I think it's just one big con, Glad to hear you're taking the tea and cake aspect seriously, everyone needs a chat and sit down to discuss what they've seen and show each other any bounty that may have fallen into pocketses...Has anyone actually seen a beast of exmoor or thereabouts? If you ask me, and no one does,
most things are a great con, whether it's fine art, fine dining or ....well I'd better not say!
My DD" has a fine art degree too, but she'd be the first to say that cake is far more important.
Beast of Exmoor? A bit like the Loch Ness Monster, evidence-wise, but might not be a hoax. People around here are pretty grounded. https://www.devonlive.com/news/devon-news/five-times-beast-exmoor-spotted-1854988pink_poppy said:Electric was supposed to be off 9-12 this morning. It was still on at 10,30 so I decided to make myself a quick hot chocolate and top my hot water bottle up. Of course, this meant the electric went off, so I had a lukewarm hot chocolate and a lukewarm hot water bottle. The electric came back on after about 20 minutes... bloomin' typical bad timing.
It's another beautiful sunny day here, but very cold with snow on the mountains. I actually went out for a quick walk yesterday, but paid the price when I got back, I think the walking movement made the BPPV worse and I'm still not great today. I would love to get outside today and absorb some watery vitamin D, but I'm not going to risk it.Yes, the sculpture's meant to look cracked, but the house would be better looking level. I might work on that. Meanwhile, my friend's asking me to go back and find out the price of an owl she likes...well, she'll like it until she finds out! Some works on display are north of £10k!At least you had warning of the leccy going off. Here, we get a power cut about once a month on average, crashing the computers and everything with a timer, like the ovens. Sometimes it's only 5 seconds or so, but I've learned not o switch back on for at least 10 minutes, because they often come in pairs.Glad you are still testing your 'condition' even if the results are mixed. Just go steady; apparently it can take some time for the crystals to settle, or dissolve, or whatever they do.No sunshine here. There was....and then unexpected darkness fell upon us, like this:

That's a brilliant idea about the walking poles, twopenny, thank you
I've been meaning to get some for ages - will put them on my Christmas list.
Is that a deer in your first pic??
How lovely that the Evening Primroses are still flowering, even without the scent. I think the only thing still flowering in my garden is a yellow winter jasmine.
Hope you got those alliums and tulips planted, taff.
I've decided to have a little wander in the garden as it's such a nice day, I feel the need to be outside.'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
Cross-posted again - when will I learn to refresh...
Thanks, Dusty. I just wish the crystals would do what they're supposed to do. I know they can go in their own time, or the exercises will speed that up, but after the other day I'm loathe to do them again.
That looks like a very stormy looking cloud you've got there. Nice pic though
greenbee, I gave my pussycat some catnip to keep him occupied, so he's currently rolling around the floor getting covered in it'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
Great little spot Dusty , I’d spend some time near the little waterfall. I imagine it’s lovely when the primroses etc are out too.
pp shame about the hot choc, I was gonna suggest a flask made up before if you know the times.
yesterday and today both blue sky and sunshine extremely cold 🥶 though. Yesterday was a shopping day ,so nothing done at home. Today washer was on early and it’s out in the sun, dgson had lifted Xmas stuff down ready for me so as it’s nice I’ve hung the outside lights, though they won’t get switched on till a few weeks. I wiped down the fascia’s and gutter around my porch whilst the ladder was out. Got my cleaning done and sat for lunch, the cat sat on the back of my chair butting me in the head ! Not happy till I let him sit on my knee. Now I’m stuck for a while .
I could wake you all on the mornings I’m working , it’s usually about 5.30 .
2 p I could have the photo of the hidden sun on my wall, beautiful it is.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6 -
Hello everyone,
I've had a busier than expected few days so have only caught up today!
I'm so sorry you're still feeling poorly PP - my friend has it and attacks can last for a few weeks - she tries really hard to not get stressed as that seems to impact her. Sending steadying hugs.
Farway....well Rodney has taken my heart! he is adorable. I bet he's aright little character.
2P love the look of that book. I have a few unfinished tomes about sustainability and living a rural life off the land but never quite finish the them. i start with such good intentions but somehow real life always gets in the way.
Love the fern pic with waterfall Dusty I adore ferns and have a few in my garden. Not sure I know exactly how to care for them but they come back every year so I reckon the location suits them.
I thanked the heavens on Sunday as the weather was bright, warmish and perfectly dry for my pomander making session on Sunday morning. YBE made a beautiful one and was rightly proud of herself. Rottery Acres will definitely be the most festive house on the block!
Here's my end result.
My garden is looking quite forlorn but I have a few flowers still holding on my sweetpeas. It's been freezing here too so I'm quite shocked. I've been potting up a few planters with some winter colour and spring bulbs.
- part of my "hope project" during these short days and dark nights
I've also managed to get my Christmas trimmings done - I'm hosting my Book Club Christmas supper on Monday but have a super busy weekend so need to be ahead on my prep. the left over greenery from the pomander making has come in useful for a table decoration!
OT it's all a cold, wet and soggy 6' here at the moment. I am collected a stone hot water bottle tonight from a Freecycler so hoping it'll keep my feet warm whilst WFH.
have a lovely evening everyone,

Wet start this morning, fringes of Dutch storm "Conall" it seems, but I was heading out to the deepest Marks Food Hall.My reason was a gift voucher and milk, but did intend to perhaps toddle on after to GC and see the Christmas tat, but never did, job for another, brighter, day.My immediate neighbours have Christmas lights strung in the trees /shrubs now, it's looking cheery in the gloom.Getting the house straight in the stone hole should be fairly easy, I've just seen a pic of a ship framed by HMS Victory anchor, but the photographer has fessed up it was AI enhanced, good pic all the same.Perhaps you could frame a banana & duct tapeNoticed that my pelargoniums are still alive and seem unaffected by the recent frost. I was thinking of getting them out but will see how they go, lots more Winter to go yet.All this hot choc talk, now I fancy one, and I have a tin somewhere, plus a pint of Gold Top Jersey fresh this morning.Just refreshed, what a lovely pomander WM, very talented fingers up there, hope the stone water bottle does the job for youMy contribution to wildlife pics, he/she/they, is on dead sweetcorn stalk near my front door.Perhaps it's Colin, and he followed me home from Marks?Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens8

I could wake you all on the mornings I’m working , it’s usually about 5.30 .We have a bench overlooking the waterfall. I've sat on it once!Trouble is, by the time it's warm enough to sit around like that, the drier weather's arrived, and at best, it's a trickle. Also, Mrs Dusty will be bitten alive if she goes there any time remotely warm. She wants the bench relocated. Never mind, a 6-month waterfall is better than none, and like the view of the hills at the front, it's something we didn't know we had until after we'd bought the place.
I'll pass on the 05.30 starts, thanks. In summer I have a few of those, but the hens aren't getting up till around 08.00, so there's no point in rushing.
Lovely pomander WM.I feel guilty now. All that potential pomander material out there in the garden, and we've not made one. I'll show Mrs Dusty your creation. She's currently returning from a GC where she collected a wreath for someone, but I bet she can't do that without coming home with more tat!
Farway, you've reminded me I still have an oak leaf pelargonium unprotected in the polytunnel. It'll be OK, I imagine, even if we touch zero. Tough old thing, that one. Colin looks a bit conspicuous. Perhaps he's competing for the Darwin award?I'll have to work on the banana and duct tape.Hope 2p's walking pole idea works for you pp, and WM's stone hwb works for her. I remember the latter well from my childhood. By heck, they were hot! Never one to do things by halves, Mum always filled ours with boiling water.Meanwhile, here's the nearest thing to a pomander in these parts; a tasty bird treat in the veggie garden at Rosemoor.

Good idea about the flask, wort. We used to have two stainless steel ones years ago, I'm wondering now where they've got to.
W_M, your pomander is beautiful, it's amazing what you can achieve with bits and bobs from the garden
What a shame about your friend, do you know if she does any exercises for the BPPV?? I'm finding it really debilitating
Love Colin the Caterpillar, FarwayI'm envious of your Jersey milk hot chocolate, I bet that tastes lovely. Hope it was nice and hot, because my lukewarm one yesterday was not nice.
What a good idea to tie teasels (??) together for the birds, Dusty. Hope Mrs Dusty didn't bring too much tat back from the garden centre.
It's a very frosty morning here, with a clear sky - lots of stars and a planet visible, not sure which one it is though.'A watched potato will never chit'...6
