twopenny said:Still 14c here, it's been raining and a bit of wind but nothing outstanding.Pots still upright.Dusty, interesting tomatoes. I was going to see if there was a way of extending the season in my little plot as it's relatively sheltered. I resent the astronomical prices for supermarket ones that are tasteless and no goodness.Do you reckon the long fruiting time is due to the variety or just your amazing polytunnel?I only know they came originally from the Czech Republic. I wouldn't say there's anything special about my polytunnel, apart from its height allowing plenty of upward growth. All the toms have been wrapped around with fleece for about a month, but only one layer. Maybe the relative dryness is more important to stop rotting near the season's end?Anyway, they won't break the bank!I got my original info here: http://www.tomatoville.com/showthread.php?t=30253It's not a secure connection, but I've had no problems. No political barriers in the world of tomatoes! What a difference the Moor makes when the weather's from the south. It's still hammering-down here.

That's a very wintery looking Winter Garden Dusty. "Tired" is it. Good all rounder is that, I'm having thatDid you get your carefully supervised indoor nonsense finished? Did it include finding a Rottery Acres with space enough for lots of those light up buzzing flowers..?
We I must hoover today; small gathering here tomorrow.
The cats hate it, so we'll try to find somewhere they can go that's not outside. As I might have mentioned, I rarely look at big, posh property. Knowing how tricky looking after this place is, I don't envy those who have greater responsibilities. Even if they're not doing it themselves, there's still the nonsense of getting folk to turn up, as 2p's found recently. Tomorrow, 2p?
But just for you and the folks here, I've dug out a garden in Devon that comes with a lovely house, and if it's a bit of a squeeze, there are outbuildings to convert. Sadly, it's not up for sale, but I hope to get a visit there organised . Not sure the owner would go for 'Rottery Acres,' though. He has quite highfalutin names for things!

To quote another song lyric "The Drugs Don't Work", YBE. They help with the nausea, but not the dizziness. The Dr said not to take them unless I really needed to. I'm supposed to do two sets of exercises a day, 5 repetitions, for 2 weeks. I was fine doing them on Friday, but yesterday was absolutely dire
After/during the second repetition on the morning my brain was zigzagging all over the place and I had to stop because I felt so ill. I had to force myself to do another repetition a few minutes later and the same thing happened so I decided to stop. I felt ill for hours afterwards
I knew the exercises could trigger symptoms, but not to that extent, it was definitely 'cure' is worse than the 'disease'. I'm not doing them again (if at all) until I've spoken to the Dr tomorrow as it honestly felt like I was doing more harm to myself than good.
I'm feeling better today, but still having BPPV symptoms. I was supposed to be going Christmas shopping today, but 'Bertigo' has scuppered that.
Anyway, there's obviously a bit of schoolgirl humour in me, because Farway's windy cabbage comment made me giggle - very much needed, so thank you for that
I'm enjoying reading about past holidays (wow, twopenny) and puppy dog tales. Rodney is absolutely gorgeous too. I was given a blow away a couple of birthdays ago, but my DD's spaniel had got to the box first and I was left with a chewed blow away with big holes in 3 sides. Needless to say it's never been used.
Good luck with the new job tomorrow, YBE.
OT - lovely and sunny up until a few minutes ago. It's now a bit grey, with 40+mph winds forecast this afternoon until the early hours.'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
OK I've noted those two varieties and had a read online.I have a blow away in the garage acting as shelves for the boxes, bins, bags that are required for recycling kept at an easy level to use.If I'm going to move my sitoorie then that space has a warm sheltered wall with the boiler vent keeping the temperature up. I get blooms and leaves on deciduous all year round in that spot.Worth a try and gives me some comfort about moving the bench.Spike Jones I remember for 'Clink Clink' - one of my favourite songsSeem to have missed a post/my post didn't post gawd knows.Too big for me Dusty......I just look at those lawns and greens and think of all the hard work to maintain them.Think I know what's the cause of my heating problems. Easy, know the theory from on here and YT, now just need to get up the nerve to try it. Won't do that on a Sunday though!I think the pins in some Trvs are sticking on the out position meaning overheating and boiling water returning to the boiler. Good news is that once they are turned down the pump is as quiet as a mouse so curing it means I can have the heating on before I wake up
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I have a picture of you sitting in the sun with breathing apparatus on.Sticking TRVs, common as muck, and easily fixed. My BM, due tomorrow, normally finds one of mine stuck, a lot of banging ensues!I unstuck one when I could bend, the TRV bit unscrews, gentle Mole Grips on the knurled bit. It is separate from the water, all sealed in, so no gush of water.A small pin sticks out of the pipe, I just squirted WD 40 & used flat metal of a spanner to depress & exercise the pinI suppose I, and if it works, you, could add Plumber & Heating Engineer to our CVs nowEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens7

Thanks Farway.I guess gardeners have to be practical too. (see discussion about cesspits)FreeBear has given me anti disaster info too.Not doing another thing till tomorrow.Broccoli 2 plants blown down. Expected the big one might. It fell in a summer storm and is a funny shape anyway. It has self destructive tendancies. But around here in my little area it was just normal wind and rain. Nothing to be noticed if there hadn't been such a fuss.Mind I haven't been far but nothing reported so don't know what's happened beyond our surroundings.

Hopefully the rain will ease off Dusty, sounds like you don't need any more. Did you get your dancing gutter fixed
Those toms look just right for a cheese+tom toastie with some snipped up bits of spring onion on it
Plaz Metaxu sounds like it'd be further afield than it is, lovely looking place though eh
I didn't know that about cat poo, that's interesting gb. Here's a link about poo eating (coprophagia), it's quite good but it is american. https://www.petmd.com/dog/behavior/why-do-dogs-eat-poop
2p could you clear the badger run? Or help neighbour to do it? I know it's not ideal but if it gets things sorted for you? Or go halfsies on getting a man in? I like the idea of your new sitooterie place, least you'll never be cold ha haa
"Bertigo"Fingers crossed you get something that works from the Drs today pp, whether it's different drugs or new exercises. Thanks for the good wishes re new job, I'll keep them for tomorrow when I do start. They don't want the new girl wrecking the joint on the busiest day of the week, evidently
OT 8' and about to be sunny, they say. Dry and windy with it so I'll be getting the washing out at last, seems like ages since I've done that. Oh and anyone waiting for this week's QI fact in my sig is outta luck. I can't be trusted to count to 50 so from now it's just stuff I've got in my head
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.6 -

I got the gutter and downpipe back together when the wind dropped around 16.00, but they're only hanging there on a hope and a prayer. Two gutter brackets have snapped. Sadly, they're special ones, replacing others which were designed badly in the first place, and they cost a fortune for what they are.....if I can still get them.I've visited Plaz Whatsit once. Unfortunately it was with a lady other than Mrs Dusty, whose main objective was to get through it quickly, and then on to the tea & cake. There's another large 'private' garden nearby, and combining the two might be a great day out!
pp, I hope you have some more permanent relief soon from the BPPV dizziness. From what I've read, it's one of those things that can come and go, before finally leaving people, often puzzled as to why they got it in the first place.
I did pop out a few times in the maelstrom yesterday to check things. The waterfall in the stream was looking quite impressive, so I enjoyed it while I could.Down at Mr Canute's 'barrier,' there was no sign of it. The water was rushing under the fence normally. Then I noticed something that hadn't been there earlier; a medium-sized tree had fallen in the gale, right across the stream and into Mr C's utility and compost area. The farmer who owns it won't care. It's an Act of God...who sometimes does things in 'mysterious ways.'Here's a picture; you can just about see the tree trunk. Please don't quote. I'll make it disappear later.
Today we're back to a normal 8c with sunshine and showers."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity7 -
Thanks YBE. Thankfully it's only cat poo (and possibly bird/hedgehog) that he is interested in. So all normal for a labrador
He's being very good - we had visitors yesterday and they were very impressed. Unfortunately it's back to work today so there will be less time in the garden and opportunity to run about and burn off energy (he was exhausted last night and didn't want to go outside for his bedtime wee!). Good luck with the new job!
Weather here is much improved. Lots of branches everywhere (including one large conifer branch down by my compost area). I need to talk to the neighbours at the back about the boundary as it looks as if the existing fence is on their side of the boundary, with a mixed (and neglected) hedge on my side which is actually along the line of the boundary. I can cut this back hard and fence along my side, but with deer netting it would mean I had no way to maintain it from my side, and the hedge would effectively be stuck between two lots of fence. I can find the boundary marker at one end, but not the other - so it definitely needs sorting out before I do anything!7 -
Oops, good luck for tomorrow, YBE.
Your waterfall and stream looks like it belongs in a rainforest, Dusty.
Back to feeling grim this morning and not up to phoning the surgery - I'll see if I feel up to it later.
Weather is horrible today - heavy rain at the moment and gusty winds. I'm still in bed with the pussycat snuggled up next to me.'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -

Weather is horrible today - heavy rain at the moment and gusty winds. I'm still in bed with the pussycat snuggled up next to me.Boiler Man has been, all done, I needed new casing seal, it seems the old one was perished.Got my moneys worth because he also fitted my new battery in my smoke alarm & posted next door's letter in the correct door.He never got his Heat Pump, just couldn't get the Octopus people out to survey & quote despite many attempts, so he gave up after six months of messing about.Good luck for tomorrow YBE, they'll need itNice watery pics Dusty, as said, looks like a Rain Forest down there, bummer about the gutter brackets.Could this be the time to investigate 3D printers? Could turn into a cottage industry, sort of modern day Blacksmith.I bought a 3D printed camera flash hot shoe cover FWIW, so someone at least is turning a hobby into moneyI've not inspected my patch yet, now the sun is out I hope I can get out and do it later, AFAIK everything is fine from what I can see looking out the windows.Lots of dead & dying soft annuals of courseEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens5
