Good news on the job YBE
Puppy won't be going upstairs, let alone into the bedrooms. Cats only have access to the bedrooms as they kill giant spiders and I'm phobic.
I think he's been underfed as the instructions I was given bear no relation to those on the food - so either the instructions were wrong and I underfed him for a few days, or he's been underfed for a while! I've increased gradually and he's less squeaky now so I think that helps. He's still not eating as much as it says on the food, but I'll keep an eye on him and work up to it.
Cold and icy this morning, so not looking foward to the drive to the vet for his Leptospirosis upgrade. Snow has been melting and there's clearly going to be a lot of work to do to clear up the dead annuals!6 -
Cold, frosty, sunny, with snow lingering in the shadows.I shall be indoors today, wobbles & ice is not a safe mixture for old duffers.Tomorrow is set for Storm Bert & a drenching.Dusty pics look like it feels outside for me, bleak & cold. What a cracking dawn pic YBE, I was still in my warm pit so no idea if there was similar here, could've been because it was a braw bricht moonlit nicht as Lord Rockingham & his XI used to sing.Maybe only me & Dusty can recall those heady days? So, is it congrats or sobs about a job YBE? But tootling round in a blue Swift will take the sting out of any pain, I hope. All the chilli talk, my packet from T & M has arrived, could be a job come January, but I'll have to check on that, having never grown them before. You should've taken one for the Team in McD's Taff, and had a smash burger, I'm assuming they sell such things because I've not been in one for over forty years, more of a pasty & chippy bloke TBHPP, the heating board is full of knowledge, but from what I've read Posh SH are good, but not cheap, they come with all sorts of controls and clever things. Otherwise, you're just swapping one box of bricks for another.Puppies, DGD has a new one, some type of dachshund, his first outing in snow yesterday, luckily not a lot of it, or he'd be swallowed up. I've not seen him yet, a job for Christmas.-taff said:Your snowy garden Farway, gives the look of a place built fro workers with big houses and large gardens and envious posters [ like me!]Fingers crossed for heating men turning up soon!Hope heating is sorted, or at least “in hand”I think only gardening will be YT, may look into chillies now I have some

Morning everyone,
I'll throw you no shade -taft for having a Maccie D's at that time in the morning! I can't tolerate fat since gallbladder removal last year so I am very jealous because there are times when only a MCD's will do!
)Are you going to make crabapple jelly Poppy? It's easy and quite delicious - the winter spiced one sounds great.
I am feeling very inadequate as a dog owner! I had no idea of the how to train a puppy when we got ours. It was December 2020 and the height of Covid restrictions. We'd a rescue dog for about 10 years and he was adorable but much more like a cat - he was rescued from an animal hoarders house who had over 100 dogs in cages. he lived to be 18 so had a good innings! Maybe I need to review the various areas I fail i.e he sleeps on my bed, I let him in the house before me, is currently lolling on the sofa on a heated throw and I give him his food at set times of the day (and not when I'm eating. He is well behaved, walks to heel and I don't usually use a lead when we walk down to the local field for our morning constitutional. Maybe I need to assert my authority
well done one the new job YBE. It all sounds very exciting times for you.
What is there to be superstitious about that tree Dusty? I am not sure I can think of anything specifically. The pics are lovely - what a view when the snow equals everything out. Love snowy pics.
I love reading about your dogs 2P - I adore my pooch and he really is part of our family (see above). Has the gas man turned up yet?
I love your sunrise pic YBE - it may have been roughly the same time as I took this one this morning. I had to take a pic as it was quite lovely.
I've had to order a new collar for R0meo as he disappears in the dicky dark.
Almost the weekend and I am getting my gladrags on tonight for a rare night out. Will probably be home by 11pm but that's me rocking it lol

We seem to all have had the beautiful pink sky this morning, what puzzled me was why it was in the west of the sky not the east where the sun was coming up. I’m sure I’m just being dense not working it out.
YBE well done on the job , I must have missed your post when I put the light show pics on.My cat isn’t allowed upstairs now he was originally as we had open plan stairs, but not in the bedrooms at night. Then he was weed on the carpet upstairs the only time he’s ever done that ,I think something scared him whilst we were out. And I had to get a new carpet. As I couldn’t get rid of the smell.
Greenbee maybe check at the vets if the dog is underweight. They will give you a good idea for his age build etc. hope all goes well for his jabs.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6 -
WM - it sounds as if Romeo has you fully trained. Nothing to worry about at all
Wort - we did weigh him at the vets, but he's still very wriggly so we're not sure how accurate the comparison from last time to this is. We think we've got an accurate weight this time, and he's back there in a month for a booster so we'll check again. He looks about right, but doesn't want to be any thinner, so I'll keep him on his current rations and increase gradually again in a couple of weeks.

Love all the photos of old dogs, snowy landscapes, light shows and beautiful skies
Congratulations on the job, YBE, that's great news (I think) - just keep picturing that blue swiftI've had an email this morning offering me an interview next week, but it's really bad timing for me.
No crab apple jelly for me (although the winter spice one sounds as if it would be lovely) I don't like jams or jellies (I'm guessing it would be to go with savoury food??). I'll leave them for the birds - there were blackbirds and chaffinches in the tree yesterday.
We've got a wee fan for our stove, but when we were ordering the fire we were told that the heat would stay in the room, even with the door open (we were hoping residual heat would heat the hallway and float upstairs). I think it's the position of the fire, in the centre of the room with the door on the same wall. If we open the door the cold comes into the room.
I was woken at 4am this morning by another vertigo episodethen another one a couple of hours later
I've had a telephone consultation and a different Dr thinks I've got BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo) I'm so fed up as it feels like I've taken a huge step backwards. It sounds like this is what it was a month ago, but was diagnosed at the time as viral labyrinthitis. I've got exercises to do (Brandt-Daroff) that I have to do twice a day, in the meantime I'm stuck indoors as I'm too unsteady to go out on my own
This means I'll probably have to withdraw from the job interview if I'm still like this next week - it's not until Thursday so I'll see how I am on Wednesday.
OT - it's cold.'A watched potato will never chit'...7 -
I missed your light show flowers and trees wort, jeez they're beautiful. Flowers that you can stand under and hear the bees is pure brilliant
Dog training turned into my actual job after I had to give up my actual job when daddy took cancer. It was just people complimenting my dog while we were out, turned into 'how do I get my dog to...' so I started meeting a few people in the dog walking fields, which turned into 'this is proper now, bring money'. I did love it to start with but I gave up in the end because people don't listen. I'd say do this this and this, you'll have it sorted in a week. They'd come back next week with the dog in exactly the same unruly state and say it didn't work. But in 3 stern minutes they'd do it for me *shocker* People that spend ££££'s on a dog but won't spend a bit of time to make their dog happy and secure for life. HeartbreakingAnyway. Feeding - I wouldn't worry too much about him not eating exactly whatever it is the dog food companies are telling you. Bear in mind he's not galloping round fields yet to build good muscle or work up an appetite (wiggling about on your back is no great calorie burner
) and PNB is filling... See what your vet says, but I wouldn't be a bit bothered
I've just thought, has he been wormed?
You got proper snow Dusty but poor nerinesI've never thought of the light pollution angle of the light displays, that's a good point. They don't stay on all night do they? Re my job - I'll be an Office Dolly, and it's a place that shouldn't feel the effects of redundancies in other places, but nowhere is safe I spose and I don't wanna curse it :fingerscrossed:
I'll take congrats and sobs re the job Farway. (and everyone) I don't bladdy want a job but I do want a swift. Also adult nonsense like pensions and contributions need to come into the equation so needs must. A tiny babby little dachs is a treatWhat did he think of the snow? Love your link! I'll be singing that now all day
Did you get plenty of chilli seeds so you can have lots of goes at it in case they're tricky s0ds it's difficult?
R0meo is fine wm but you can easily start implementing the stuff I've put on here if you wanted toThat looks like the same dawn but you've got bigger skies, that's really lovely
How's the head this morning?
Oh pp you don't need that nonsense againIs it just exercises this time or tablets too? Would the job people wait for you to get up and about again and then give you an interview? You never know. My fingers are crossed
Crab apple jelly can be really sharp so when I can get any I put it with rich foods like duck or goose. Delish
Himself slathers it on ham sandwiches but he's a wrong'un
OT raining, Bertie has arrived. They said it'd snow before the rain came over but they lied. Sure it wouldn't have lasted long but it would've been nice to see some. Cold now and warming up all day. The feels like is going from the -7 it currently is to +7 by this evening. How's that for a temperature difference in one dayI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.6 -
Thanks YBE. He seems happy and energetic enough. He doesn't get a huge amount of playtime/off lead time as the garden isn't dog proof and I'm pretty busy during the week. I take him out when I have gaps in the day but walks (one 7.30am, one around midday) are only about 20 mins and on the lead (seeing as we have done nothing about recall training yet!), and work breaks are 5-10 mins in the garden on the lead with me telling him to do a wee
(If he does a wee and there is time I then let him off for a few minutes, but he quite often just sits on his bum and looks at me for ages rather than getting on and weeing!). PNB is just a scraping to keep the kibble in the kong for a few seconds. That and the slow feeder mean that mealtimes take longer and require some effort which I think is important - otherwise he just hoovers it up in about 2 seconds.
I know that dog behaviour is almost entirely down to the owner (cats too, all that stuff about cats being untrainable is rubbish, as Dusty has demonstrated by pointing out his cats aren't allowed further than the kitchen ... and there are some great videos online of cats using talking buttons). I need to find the time to work with him on things that will make him safe on walks, in the garden, and in the house. But it has only just been a week so far.
Raining here, so hopefully the ice and snow will all be gone soon. My job today (in the rain) is going to be cleaning out the grooves that the lid to the septic tank fits into, as they're full of rubbish and it isn't sealing properly and I can smell it. The tank has recently been emptied, and the drains cleared by the guy emptying the tank, but we still had some issues. Drain rods finally dislodged a massive lump of limescale from the final bit of the drain where two of the bathrooms have quite a long run with several corners. It's in the bin now, smelling of cabbage (and the bathrooms no longer smell of cabbage, so there's been some imporvement). However, I think that the person who did the work didn't reseat the tank cover properly, so I need to go out in the rain (with a mask and some long gloves) and get that done.
Lots of dead annuals to cut back, but Bert is dumping rain on us, so drains and dog walking/loo trips will probably be the extent of my outdoor work this weekend!7 -
Very windy, yellow wind warning, must be all that cabbageIt's very dark as well, but I think we are just getting rain, not deluges. Not a day for crossing the Channel, or even the Solent, though.PP, what a bummer with vertigo returned. Don't want to pry, but I guess with some jobs, even the possibility of vertigo would rule them out on Safety grounds. Hope yours waits and works out.The volunteer place oak tree felling is only half done, seems their machinery broke down, so we have one tree & a tall trunk left to tackle some other day.I'm told they are leaving the stumps there, so maybe a good crop of toadstools in a few years time, and a time bomb for the Silver Birch we must replace the oaks withOh well, council conservation box tickedYBE, are there possibilities for paid dog walkers in your area? You know, rich folks with dogs /pets & no time?Only mentioning it because DD turned it into a proper business, employing others, tax returns, van with dog cages etc. She does live near New Forest, so lots of money sloshing about, and walks the dogs there.greenbee said:Lots of dead annuals to cut back, but Bert is dumping rain on us, so drains and dog walking/loo trips will probably be the extent of my outdoor work this weekend!YoungBlueEyes said:

, £3.49 priced, but natch I bought them on offer at 89p. 6/10 on heat scale, so doubt I'll be scoffing them like sweets, however just getting them to grow will be good enough for me
And here's the sausage pup in his first snow, named Rodney by DGDEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens6 -
You're only a week in and he's still very young gb. Those walks sound about right to me, you don't want to be doing too much or going too far while he's not fully jabbed. The fact that he's happy in himself means you're doing fine
As for recall - buy a washing line and attach that to his collar when he's in the garden to give him a good long run. Say his name once, give the command once ("come" "heel" whatever) then pull his 'lead' til he's back to you and then praise him. Don't be shouting "come" 17 times and getting him used to it or he'll be doing it his whole life. If you want to pm me I'm more than happy to talk about anything you wanna know, I'm wary of getting told off for being too off topic for too long
Good luck with your lid in the (on topic!) rain. It's lashing down here too so I don't envy you that.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4
