Discussion re Petition

Hi Guys,

 

We just want to offer a friendly reminder that we are inviting feedback from you about the changes we are asking MSE to make for us. You have until 31st Oct to respond, for what you say to affect whatever happens next.

 

We haven’t had many responses so far. That genuinely isn’t any sort of complaint or gripe. We’re arrogant enough to assume that if you aren’t responding it’s probably because we’re not miles off asking for what you would like to see happen 

 

What we definitely don’t want to do is go to MSE with a list of things that doesn’t take your views into account.

 

So if you’re happy with what we’re asking for, as listed here by Rahven: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6204908 that’s all fine, but if there’s anything you would like to change or add, then please tell us on this discussion thread, preferably using the format that MSE Laura has asked for, as in...

When I...{do something}

I want...{this thing to happen}

So that I can...{outcome}

when I search (using the time frame)
I want it to search by the parameters I’ve selected (and not everything ever)
so I can find what I’m looking for (this is a recent fault)

Is there a post somewhere about the new sort facility of date end, please? Only it doesn’t seem to really work properly for me.

When I want to contact a board guide.

I want to be able to see the board guides avatars clearly on the competition page. 

So that I know who the board guides are easily and can message them.

I want to be able to write the page number in a search box next to the page numbers e.g write 12 in the box, it takes you to page 12

So I don't have to select several pages in order to eventually be able to locate the page I want

I would say low impact. You can just amend the page number in the url to go straight to the page you want. Works on all pages except page 1.

The petition is still open for signatures if anyone else wants to sign it and tell other compers about it.

 

Rahven has done a fabulous job in putting together a detailed list of all our major concerns over the forum changes made a while back. I know I speak for loads of us in thanking her for her skill and time on this.

 

We didn’t get tons of responses about this, other than the signatures on the petition. We took that to mean we were, more or less, on the right track, as we mentioned on the discussion thread here:

But we did get some responses and Rahven has done her best to incorporate them into what we sent to MSE. We honestly believe that what we ended up asking MSE for genuinely represents the wishes of most MSE compers. We feel that most of our fellow compers would agree that the way the forum was before the changes were made was just SOOOOOO ‘right’ for us to comp from. And that if MSE would find a way to fix the issues that we’ve had with the changes, it would mean so much to most of us. We might even then, hopefully, see the return of some of the long-term users who have now moved elsewhere to comp from.

 

We mentioned that we were aware that MSE is a lot bigger than just our competition section of the forum , and assured them we would wait very patiently for the team to discuss our requests and, hopefully, to make any arising changes.

 

We emphasised that the main thing was to ask them to keep us informed as to what changes they are considering making for us and, if possible, giving us a rough idea of when to expect them to be implemented.

 

We also said that if they decide not to give us the changes we are asking for that, again, they let us know that is the case, as this would at least allow forum users to make an informed choice as to whether to stick with MSE or look elsewhere.

 

We also said that as the forum is a lot bigger than just our comping area, it might be that the changes made might suit the rest of the forum more than it does we compers. If so, we suggested they consider setting up some sort of separate, but affiliated, MSE competition forum, which would allow us to comp with the format we are seeking, without it affecting the rest of MSE.

 

We mentioned, hopefully on behalf of all or most of us, that we have always been very proud of our link to MSE. It offered our comping hobby a sense of ‘legitimacy’, and it has always felt like a good ‘fit’ with MSE and what it stands for. This is why we would SOOOOO love to be able to resolve these niggles, so that we can move forward together, with that great sense of ‘connection’ there has always been between us.

 

Also, a HUGE thank you to the users who did engage with us, either via the threads or PMs, and those who sense checked the results for us. We could not have done this without you. 

 

We will continue to keep you posted with any more news that we get from MSE, and we sincerely thank you all for working with us to try to resolve things and make MSE once again become the wonderful comping platform that it used to be.
