Not very old style but we're off out to sort our mortgage out later. We've managed to cope on what we are paying at the minute (thanks to living the old style way) so we're getting a fixed rate for the same amount as we pay now, but we've managed to reduce the number of years we've got the mortgage for :j

All thanks to Martins morgage guide (I ordered a copy and learnt all about mortgages so I got the best deal for us) Now I'm happy I've got the best deal I've passed the guide onto a neighbour who is about to re-new hers  thanks Martin for doing a guide in plain and simple English and making it easy for us all to understand the big companies gobbdly-gook :j

  • I second this! I was surprised that this thread wasn't started by Queenie - I thought it was the law that she started them!!! :D

Not a brilliant OS day being at work for the full-day (boo hiss) BUT OH has just rung me to say he has put some bacon on and do I want bacon butties in the local park for lunch after I have spoken to the budgies in the pet shop - my, he knows how to treat a girl :rotfl:

tonight I will be attempting the, gasp, "sorting out of the dressing table drawers" - I may be gone for some time. ;) Can't do a great deal in the garden as we found a dead rodent in there on Monday  and the rat men, ahem, pest control officers can't come until this p.m..(and I'm not going in the garden with a dead rat there) ........ I think they are coming from next door as there was one at the front on the pavement last week and I saw a live one about 4 months ago that legged it back to their side of the privet.......... unfortunately, our area is one of the few in the UK that has black rats as we have the river mersey running at the back of our house (not literally, across some fields first)...... and we've just got a composter so i hope we don't get tutted at for that....... I will keep you all posted.......
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D

My day so far. Up with the lark, cooked breakfast for myself and other half, kids off the school and playgroup. Washing hung outside, made pastry for Manchester tart. Dishes washed (again) came to make filling for tart, got no custard powder so had to make REAL custard for first time ever. Son home from playgroup, lunch outside in the shade. Thinking about tea now, some half price minute steaks from Sainsburys, cauliflower cheese and Jersey royals methinks and of course tart for pudding. Then off to work for a rest at 5.30pm. Have a nice day!
  • Well, not much OSing for me as yet as I have a full time job (work as an Information Officer for a Mental Health Charity). Not much going to get done tonight either as OH's father and lady friend are coming to help us move the last of our stuff from the old flat into the new one. He is taking us out for dinner too, but being in Weight Watchers I shall have to try and be goos - not easy in Brewsters eek!!

Now we are almost settled in I am hoping to get some bread making done at the weekend in my long forgoten bread machine - oh I have missed it stuck away in my ex's garage!

Hope you are all well and not wilting too much in the heat

    :hello:

Sorry I've not been about ... sometimes, real life takes over :o

On the OS front, I popped into a 2nd hand bookstore the other day and book a wonderful cook book an "Cooking with Gelatine" (50p) :D It's a US book, but I've got a conversion chart so I'm hoping to knock out some delicious new recipes over the next few weeks, all chilled and perfect for this hot weather. Many of the meat/fish recipes use up leftovers so they should prove economical as well as refreshing. :D

I've cleared out a little corner of my bedroom as a "Me Corner" ;) (Ok, in the old days, men would have their sheds :rolleyes)
When I say "corner", that's a slight exaggeration as it's really just a shelf LOL On my "me" shelf, I have 2 baskets. One is my luxury basket and I've been selecting bits I already had tucked away to put in it. Now if the world spins too fast or is too demanding, I have my basket to dip into an give myself a bit of nurturing. LOL So, instead of giving the kids "time out" ... I shall give it to myself :D

I'm very grateful for the meatloaves, breads, meat sauces, veg sauces that I've been tucking away into the freezer over the past few months, as it means that aside from some defrosting and the addition of a few choice fresh veggies (salads), I have a week or three coming up of no major spending/cooking!!! :j (In this heat, who needs it!?)

I've placed some decorative bowls in all the rooms and sprinkled some dried flowers into them and some essential oils (well, the humidity is quite stiffling the past few days), so together with the sachets hanging on the door handles, the house is smelling really fresh and homely. :D:D:D

Do you know, that is a brilliant point I've never thought of - looking for recipe books in second hand bookshops. We have several in town, and I've always just assumed (without really thinking about it) that they just have novels or textbooks for students etc.

That's a deffo for my next trip to town - I bet there are some brilliant cookery books for a fraction of the price, and maybe some out-of-print ones too. Thanks Queenie :T .
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Oh, Bogof-Babe - they are an Aladin's Cave for book enthusiasts :D

We have a couple of 2nd hand book shops, but one sells them at ridiculously high prices (well 2/3's the original price  ) but when found this second one ... is an absolute treasure :D And the range of books is amazing too - talking of out of print books, I picked up a copy of "The American Frugal Housewife" and it's an amazing read.

Do have a good rummage the one's here have every topic known to WHSmiths/Waterstones/library's ;):D
