Only problem I can think of is do you require permission or has that been included in the T&C of membership? I assume that any info I post in public fora may be reused but you'd be surprised how some people can get touchy even when there's no reason to be (that bit's from experience :( )

If you look at the banner at the top of the page the copyright question is answered, we've all agreed already!

I think it's a brill idea! I've only just started viewing this board a few days ago and already it's given me ideas so if that what happened to me in that short amount of time imagine 10,000 people doing it!!!

Plus it would help the kids as Martin has already said! A win-win situation!
    Waddle you do eh?

Just a thought : We old stylers etc are really only able to practise old style ways, or even just simple saving instead of spending, by benefiting from the less frugal who are more thoughtless with their money. If you/we start a revolution the whole economy could collapse & our shares & savings which we have worked so hard for would be worth a lot less!! (I think, if I understand how the economy works correctly:confused: ) I guess it's a case of spread the word & benefit from better morals & less cash??

Sorry Martin, I can't write one line posts, they're always long winded:rotfl:

Mmm as someone who is not particularly frugal, does this make me thoughtless with my money? or that I would have better morals if I was?
Not sure that I understand that reasoning.

Good idea for fund raising Martin, not quite sure where on the book shelves such a book would go, lol, chicken raising, cook books, cleaning or just place it beside The Money Diet ;)

As for the copyright, technically I own it - as you'll see in "MoneySavingExpert.com asserts copyright on all comments posted on the boards." at the top of the board and in the terms and conditions.

Ah, cunning. Must get something like that ourselves. I doubt many people here will object to your "cool, useful and productive" intentions but it was thoughtful to ask even if technically, you don't have to.

It doesn't just have to be marketed at readers who are particularly frugal, for whatever reason. There are many people in this country (and others, I'm sure, for when it needs marketing abroad) who can afford to 'live well' in terms of food, what appliances or gadgets they buy or how they clean their home (or in fact, what they get their cleaners to use :)

However, there is beginning to be a backlash against all the types and poor quality of many foodstuffs, as well as the chemicals we are pouring down our drains or spritzing into the air, in the quest for the whitest whites, the 100% sanitized kitchens or the fastest reheated, pseudo-exotic ready meal. People are now hankering after those meals their grannies made, the simpler life-style she had - albeit a far cry from what she actually had to endure. We don't want to do without our washers, driers, electric crockpots and steamers, central heating or access to the vast quantities of other luxuries we all take for granted. What I believe a lot of people want now is to eat what we all know is 'proper' food. We now know how to make 101 tasty dishes in a slow cooker and how to make our clothes clean and fresh without resorting to overpriced, carcinogenic chemical compounds, if that's what we want. We know or are finding our ways around these threads and even the best Old Styler still has to ask questions from time to time.

OK, I seem to have waffled enough. Sorry, Martin :)

    Hi Martin,

I think the idea of a book is a really really good one and long overdue! I have only been a member of the site for a few months and have found all of this site but especially Old style very useful and my natural home. So useful in fact, that to keep track of all the wonderful tips, I have started my own book/file in MS Word. Whenever I have come across a tip/piece of advice that I like or will use, I have copied and pasted it into Word. The file is divided into 4 main sections (sad I know) and at the moment contains 90 pages. The main reason I have done this was :
    1) I knew I would never come across the tip again (without having to wade through pages and pages) if I didn't copy it immediately into another file
    2) I really didn't want to waste paper printing out hundreds of "reference" page material (wanted to save a few trees :D )
    3) I could find things in seconds by putting them into this type of file. So for example, if I wanted to find the recipe for Laundry Gloop, it would take seconds rather than using the sometimes "hit and miss" search facility
    4) I could start addding useful info picked up from other web sites

Since Squeaky introduced his famous indexes I am using this file a little less, but I am still using it for my own purposes of course.

Anyway an Old Style book with the proceeds going to charity is a fantastic idea and will definitely rival the bestselling one by that German Count that everyone was mentioning recently

Now you'll get scared. I discussed that on the front cover should be a pic of me with the top ten old-style posters!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Now watch everyone feverishly posting so they get their count up to the Top 10!!!!

I'm very much in favour of MS Kids and think it's a wonderful idea to invest into.

I think it's a great idea to have a book giving all round "old style" ways of making ends meet because the whole ethos encompasses many pertinent aspects to modern issues and concerns! It's not just about cooking or bogof's or couponing, it promotes environmentally friendly methods and means - something which is rapidly becoming a very hot potato - even the mere cost of disposing of rubbish is set to rocket over the next 10yrs!

Wishing you the very best for your project :T
