Old Style Book

An excellent idea :money: . Even if it influences just a tiny tiny fraction of people maybe the next generation can become just a little bit more aware of alternatives, but it's human nature to move forwads & not back so how would you go about changing peoples mind-sets in a modern society who are used to having it all & having it now?
A major, but very worthwhile, challenge me thinks:D
Just a thought : We old stylers etc are really only able to practise old style ways, or even just simple saving instead of spending, by benefiting from the less frugal who are more thoughtless with their money. If you/we start a revolution the whole economy could collapse & our shares & savings which we have worked so hard for would be worth a lot less!! (I think, if I understand how the economy works correctly) I guess it's a case of spread the word & benefit from better morals & less cash??
Sorry Martin, I can't write one line posts, they're always long winded:rotfl:Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -
Martin - got any old style tips of your own to add to the mix?0

Now you've put the cat amongst the (caught for food) pigeons
You'll have more old style posts on here now than you know how to shake a vinegar soaked rag at!! :rotfl:0 -
The book is a great idea and should be a success as even people who consider themselves to be old stylers still need to post to ask advice from others occasionally."This site is addictive!"

What a brilliant idea. :j All the tips on here would make an ace book, if the amount of threads/posts i've printed off to keep and to refer to at home (only access mse during working hours LOL) are anything to go by!!!
Look forward to hearing more about it.0 -
Can I place my order now :j ?
It could have a fine advantage over existing books in that you'd be
(a) English (such a lot of the popular books on thrift/frugality are US
(b) up to date (the WW2/rationing etc books are great, I love them, but are not always practical)
(c) real life being tips from people actually doing it rather than a journalist who knows nothing about the subject (NB this does not of course apply to all journalists, there are some admirably thorough journalists out there, can anyone lend me a spade?)
I think the people on our site would be very interested too, it seems as though people are finally and thankfully becoming more interested in this kind of subject! And good on you for thinking of donating the profits.
Only problem I can think of is do you require permission or has that been included in the T&C of membership? I assume that any info I post in public fora may be reused but you'd be surprised how some people can get touchy even when there's no reason to be (that bit's from experience)
(Was this meant to be a one line reply?)0 -
As for the copyright, technically I own it - as you'll see in "MoneySavingExpert.com asserts copyright on all comments posted on the boards." at the top of the board and in the terms and conditions.
However thats one of the reasons of this thread. I don't want to do things people won't like, of course one or two objects somewhere along the line is to be expected, but I want and feel I need (morally not technically) the support of the board in doing so. Also that's the other reason for wanting to donate profits, I wouldn't feel write if I hadn't written/produced a substantial proportion myself.
I'm not doing this for the money, I'm doing it because i think it would be cool, useful, productive.
As for my tips (as asked above) they're in the main site. I would of course write a foreword for the book and possible a section on mixing MoneySaving new style with old style
